23.01.2022 The Property Council of Australia has proposed the 'New Home Boost' grant as part of its seven-point plan to the National Cabinet for kickstarting construction and the economy. In an industry like construction, you may think price is the no. 1 determining factor but it never is. 11.01.2022 Prospective new home builders and those undertaking substantial renovations will benefit from $25,000 cash grants, under a $688 million program designed to stop the housing construction industry falling into a hole. Under the housing scheme, for a renovation to be eligible, it will have to cost between $150,000 and $750,000, which effectively rules out most projects other than a building project such as an extension. Before the coronavirus pandemic crashed the economy, new ho...me builds were forecasted to be 171,000, that has fallen to 111,000. The scheme aims to address a shortfall of 30,000 new builds in the second half of 2020. It's great that the government has identified the importance of stimulating the construction industry, however I feel there are too many limitations for a person to qualify for this grant and it is specifically targeted/confined to people on middle incomes and smaller value projects. 05.01.2022 The state government has now introduced that all people living & working in the Melbourne & Mitchell Shire will be required to wear a face covering when leaving home for 1 of the 4 reasons allowed. This also includes when working on or visiting Construction Sites. As of Thursday 23/07/2020 all employees, subcontractors and suppliers working on or attending any of Pascon Group's sites will be required to wear a face covering mask. This whole scenario is less than ideal and inc...onvenient for everyone, however PERSPECTIVE is important. There are many businesses who would love to reopen just by wearing face masks we are all in a fortunate position that construction is still seen as an essential service and that we can all work and provide for our families. 01.01.2022 I am a HUGE supporter of this. The owner builder system in this country is a problem. It is beyond me how owning your own home somehow makes you qualified to build. Buildings are massively complex, expensive and resource consuming. The health of our society and the environment as a whole, depends significantly on having good quality buildings and the owner builder system opposes this. Experience doesn't play a role, if you are not a registered building practitioner, then you ...are not qualified to build your house. I don't try to teach children, because Im not a teacher. I don't write prescriptions, because Im not a doctor. I won't do your tax return, because Im not an accountant. But I can build your house.
