All ingredienst available @thebulkfoodshack RECIPE (makes 8) - 1 cup flour (almond, spelt or another alternative) - 1/4 cup sugar (brown sugar)... - 2 large tbsp peanut butter - 2 tbsp cinnamon - 1/3 cup alternative milk (almond or hemp) - 1 tsp bicarbonate soda - 1 tsp baking powder - pinch of salt - raisins, pretzels and cranberries to decorate Preheat the oven to 180C In a large bowl mix the flour, bicarb soda, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon and salt Add the alternative milk and nut butter and stir until it forms a thick, slightly sticky mixture Roll the mixture into 8 balls and slightly flatten onto a lined tray Top each cookie with pretzel antlers, raisin or sultana eyes and cranberry noses and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Hours this week are 9-5 mon-Thursday (Friday Closed for a wedding)... But I’ll open Saturday 10-2pm instead. Normal trading hours the week after (mon-fri 9-5) This beautiful sale today of @pip_smux was completely plastic free using all her own reusable containers & jars! How good is that! She also picked up plastic free/natural tooth tabs, plastic free shampoo & conditioner and the most amazing @vivalabody body moisturiser. Please remember to BYO containers/jars etc otherwise we have paper bags and free glass jars to use. Please be mindful of covid rules and limits in our space but come on in and see what we’ve got! One of the most important things we wanted to achieve was offering plastic free whole foods at an affordable price, because we want to reduce plastic in our community first and foremost! We have also chosen lots of Australian products and local South Australian products that are divine! Soapberries are the fruit of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree. The fruit is picked, the seed removed and the shell dried. This dried shell is full of a substance called 'Saponins' which are a natural soap. Saponins reduce the surface tension of water, releasing dirt and grime from fabrics and surfaces. Read it and gift it onto someone else for a read. Simple switches- moving away from single use plastics is not an overnight fix, but there are many ways to make a positive difference. While it can appear the problem comes from other people, places and countries we know that high income countries like Australia generate mor...e plastic waste per person, and recycling is not a solution. So the best thing we can all do right now is just start with one thing and go from there. Here’s some ways to get started. Synthetic clothes- behind packaging the textile industry is the second largest waste generator in the world. Buy less, buy better quality or clothes swap. Food packaging- shop at bulk food stores or farmers markets and take your own refillable containers. Plastic bags- take your own cloth bags! Shampoo bars- swap the bottle for a bar! Plastic bottles- get a reusable! Takeaway food containers- BYO container! Cling wrap- switch to beeswax or reusable container. From polluting oceans and harming wildlife, to filling up landfills for decades without decomposing, this material is having devastating short term and long term effects on our planet. 12.01.2022 Hi Eco Mermaids & Mermen! I’m so excited to connect with you all. The Bulk Food Shack is our new venture so a little bit about myself so you know what I am about. My name is Hannah and for the past 5 or so years my partner and I have been travelling and living on our sail boat. Off grid powered by the sun and moved by the wind, we mostly spent our time out of phone signal living off the ocean, diving, exploring, surfing and literally living in the heart of nature. This is whe...re my focus on sustainability and reducing plastic comes from. My eyes were opened to the remoteness and beauty of Mother Earth and the creatures that call the planet home too. I am captivated by the beauty of it all but unfortunately my beach walks turned into picking up plastics and micro plastics. I have since over the years slowly changed my way of thinking and have grown a passion to do something for the earth as I was living quite a selfish life style. This is how The Bulk Food Shack has inspired, somewhere where not only my family but anyone who wants to can choose an alternative that is either biodegradable, reusable, earth friendly and not wrapped in plastic. It’s also about choosing health and thinking about our future generations. Our sailing life has lead us to be aware of synthetics and chemicals that are used in day to day life and we have over the years made the switch to using natural and plant based (now focusing on plastic free also) products. 06.01.2022 Buckwheat Vegan Pancakes! Yes Please! We have Organic Buckwheat Available @thebulkfoodshack As well as most other ingredients to make this delicious meal ... Ingredients 1 Cup Milk of Choice (I used Hemp, can also use almond, cashew or oat) 1 Banana 1/2 tsp. Vanilla 1 Tbsp. Cold Pressed SA Olive Oil 1 Cup Buckwheat Flour 1 tsp. Baking Powder (aluminium free) Pinch Salt Top with maple syrup or if non vegan Local Eyre Honey! Puree the banana, oil, milk, and vanilla in a blender until smooth.Either add the flour, salt, and baking powder to the blender and mix on low until combined, or pour the liquid into a bowl with the flour and mix until smooth. Once the pan is warm, add a splash of oil and two Tbsp. of batter (spreading out with the back of a spoon if needed).
