25.01.2022 It’s been wonderful to get back to working in Parks with such enthusiastic participants

24.01.2022 Weird and Wonderful plants of SA! I love helping students find camouflaged Mistletoes and to learn about the clever carnivorous Drosera plants :-)

24.01.2022 Wow Science week is nearly here!!

24.01.2022 This would be wonderful in the classroom

24.01.2022 Some common sense tips for these difficult times...

23.01.2022 "But many teachers may be reluctant to hold a lesson outdoors, as they might worry it could overexcite the children, making it difficult for them to concentrate... on their schoolwork back in the classroom. But after years of experience in the field, psychologist Professor Ming Kuo believed the reverse would happen and set out to investigate the idea."

23.01.2022 A great way to get outdoors and find out more about our local biodiversity. Get involved!

23.01.2022 Humanity may be bunkering down to #stayhome during COVID-19, but our avian friends are on the move as the season changes. Autumn is a time for migration for man...y birds, so its a great opportunity to check in on who is flying and in and out of your backyard, or visiting your windowsill. Birds In Backyards would love to know what youre observing at home in March and April, please click on the link below for more information and instructions on how to make your contribution count. http://www.birdsinbackyards.net//Autumn-Birds-Backyards-Su

22.01.2022 One of my favourites to show students. They love finding them as they are like a hidden treasure- small and indiscreet amongst the forest floor and of course for the cool factor of plants eating bugs!

21.01.2022 The Bush Classroom spent a wonderful Saturday afternoon with lots of little Nature Detectives discovering the local wildlife, plants and fungi around the new campground area at Para Wirra Recreation Park as part of National Parks SA Park of the Month activities! #NationalParksSA #ParkoftheMonth

21.01.2022 Im looking forward to it too :-) Focus on Flora this time and there are so many plants in flower right now!

19.01.2022 This is definitely an issue with multiple generations. Best thing about the Bush Classroom is helping little brains learn plants and animals names. You cant love or appreciate what you are blind to and have no knowledge about!

16.01.2022 The Bush Classroom is now offering combined excursion and incursion options with Animals Anonymous! Consider booking your class in for a guided bush walk + native animal presentation!

13.01.2022 I'm looking forward to it too :-) Focus on Flora this time and there are so many plants in flower right now!

13.01.2022 This morning was spent with Kathleen Mellor Kindy at Anstey Hill RP looking for and learning about Fungi! What a wonderful group of children and educators who were thrilled to find many different types of cap fungi, jelly and paint fungi, puffballs, lichen and create their own fungi to display around their Kindy! A big thanks to Ranger Nick and Friends of Anstey Hill who are supporting the Kindy to go on Bush Kindy adventures in the Park

11.01.2022 Excited to be going along and helping lead the fungi walks!

10.01.2022 Love coming across the holes in the ground with the pupal cases still in them with kids this time of year! Still special finding them in my own backyard with my kids, but missing the Bush Classroom sessions.

10.01.2022 A wonderful resource. Banksia Park Kindy recently at Anstey Hill saw the warmer weather with rain triggers many natives, such as wattles, to flower. As you can its still Kaurna rainy season, Kudlila. This rain with the warmth of September allows for rapid to growth of native plants!

08.01.2022 Autumn has definitely arrived in Adelaide!

08.01.2022 The days are shorter, temperatures drop, but backyard birdwatching never stops! Our Winter surveys kicked off yesterday! Join in the fun - count birds for 2...0 mins and let us know about your space. Are your resident spinebills loving the native shrubs in your garden? Do the cockatoos come for the seed you are providing? Are you seeing any unusual visitors? Your surveys show us what birds are visiting gardens seasonally and what it is about those gardens that attracts them. What better way to be #birdingathome than gazing out the window at your "neighbirds"!? Head to the website for info, including free webinars this week (June 3 (tomorrow) and June 7): https://www.birdsinbackyards.net/ - register to join us. Birds in BackYards is a project led by our Urban Birds team - for daily updates join the Birds in Backyards Facebook group, or follow the team on Twitter: @UrbanBirdsOz and Instagram: @birdsinbackyards

08.01.2022 Some of the fantastic artistic efforts from students using bush and natural materials during recent Bush Kindy sessions!

08.01.2022 A lovely reason to spend some time outside :-)

08.01.2022 We had a great time on the Little Quarry Loop trail at Anstey Hill Recreation Park looking and listening for local fauna and finding evidence of fauna! Looking forward to coming to your Bush Kindy again next month to look for Fungi!! Thanks to Ranger Nick from National Parks South Australia and the volunteers from Friends of Anstey Hill for organising these sessions

05.01.2022 I just love Sundews!! The Bush Classroom has some upcoming sessions with schools and in the September school holidays with National Parks coming up at Para Wirra CP and I cant wait to see the prolific amount of Sundews there!!

04.01.2022 I love pointing out mistletoe to kids telling them there is a plant hiding in the gum tree by dressing up to look the same as the gum tree leaves! Actually and to adults because they often get the same excited expression when they start finding them themselves after Ive pointed one out!!

04.01.2022 Whats in a word. When you hear the word habitat you might think home. And it is! Your home with its furniture, roof and walls can be home for plants, anim...als, insects and critters of all kinds. More generally though, habitat is the natural home or environment of a plant, animal or other organism which provides it with the food, water, shelter and space it needs to survive. If its home changes, it has to adapt to stay there. You can imagine if a wall suddenly disappeared from your house that might take some adjustment! Habitat might not be what you expect either; you might not place much value on dead trees and twigs/sticks and leaf litter on the ground, but these can give species like lizards and insects a home. 02.01.2022 The tree shake on an old white sheet is such a simple, fun and educational thing to do with kids! I do this activity in numerous Bush Classroom activities as its so great!

02.01.2022 The Bush Classroom is now offering excursion and incursion options with Nature Crafts for Kids! Consider booking your class in for a guided bush walk + crafts session with bush materials run by Kate Hubmayer!
