15.01.2022 It really does not matter where you set up your studio. When I started teaching, I was teaching in what was the back wrestling rooms at the North Sydney Youth Club. No street signage and not close to any public transport. The youth centre was all locked up and run by a backward thinking committee of self-interested cronies. Yet, I was successful and continued to thrive and grow for many years, eventually using all of the rental space including the main hall that would run 2 or more full classes at the same time. https://northstarjujitsu.com/the-heart-and-soul/

11.01.2022 It's not about the money. When a new student is deciding whether or not to join your studio, they may ask how much the classes cost, but It’s not about the money. The cost of your classes or private lessons maybe a very important decision for your prospective students and it is something that needs to be looked at but that it’s not the most important aspect of opening up a business. One thing I’ve come to realise after running a number of successful businesses is just how important trust is. 09.01.2022 Be careful to not over do social media. You can easily be just too intense and smack of desperation. Try and show a personal side on one of your accounts, it shows that you are human and invites people to see a side of you that behind the scenes. But again do not over do it.

07.01.2022 Choose your brand well. So many people choose a nondescript, generic name, and they think that they are being really smart. Your name includes your brand and must speak volumes about who you are and what you do. For example, a restaurant called "That Food Place" says zero about what they stand for. Where as Northstar is the guiding star that navigates the way forward. North is a pinnicle point and star is the giver of life. A deep commitment to well being. #businesscombat #smallbusiness

06.01.2022 Converge, not diverge. More is not better. You see so many "one stop shops" trying to offer everything. All this does is dilute your brand. You need to apply laser focus to your core brand and just make that so much better than your competitors. Once I removed kickboxing and cardio karate from my business and reinvented the martial arts classes. Boom and never looked back. You can keep on adding value.
