21.01.2022 This week's Bendigo Writers Festival Backstory discussion is a knockout! Jessie Tu, a self-described mediocre violinist, has drawn on her own experience to write a book that is so bold and brave you might be astonished at her courage. It’s packed full of zeitgeist ideas about women, relationships, sex, self-respect and desire and in conversation with Cecile Shanahan, Jessie talks about why she chose the novel to reveal so much. A Lonely Girl is a Dangerous Thing is confronting, and impressive. Christos Tsiolkas calls Jessie a powerful new voice, and you’ll find her, in person, both eloquent and generous, forthright and careful. Join us at 6pm on Wednesday!

17.01.2022 A warm and breathtaking blues voice together with impressive guitar skills and relatable stage presence, introducing Hailey Calvert presented by Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival. She has graced the stages of Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival five times, Woodford Folk Festival four times, Palm Creek Folk Festival twice, as well as Queenscliff Music Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and Cygnet Folk Festival. Hailey’s achingly honest song writing style saw her take out the ...blues category in the 2015 International Songwriting Competition alongside Australian winners in other categories including Meg Mac and Birds of Tokyo. With 4 CDs released and more to come, Hailey is an independent performer making a lasting impression. Tonight Hailey Calvert performs two original tracks in this free online event. Tune in to hear The Mountains and 4,3,2,1 with Jason Cameron joining in on second guitar and harmonies. 10.01.2022 Isabella Fortuna is a central Victorian-based Songwriter. Isabella records all of her music in her bedroom and takes a diary-like approach to writing. She uses music as a form of healing as well as connecting to others. On Saturday, Isabella and her sweet friend the guitar find a corner of the house and play together. She performs one song: it is yet to have a name. Suggestions are welcome. You can hear more of Isabella at:... soundcloud.com/isabellafortuna See more
