25.01.2022 Left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

24.01.2022 There are at least three other inquiries going on in the Parliament as well as the Tune report and the Carnell/Paterson report that recommended rafts of changes with only some being implemented. This is on top many others over the years perhaps a Royal Commission will finally bring real change.

21.01.2022 More money for Home Care Packages From July 1, tens of thousands of people on home care packages will see a few more dollars added to the money they receive from the Government. The subsidy bump is 1.4% - below the current CPI rate of 1.9% - but for those of a Level 4 package its an increase of nearly $700 per year. Unfortunately, for those of Level 1 or Level 2 packages its less than a dollar per day. 2018 Rates per day: Level 1 $22.66 Level 2 $41.22 Level 3 $90.62 Level 4 $137.77

20.01.2022 One of the benefits of growing older is having more time to spend with friends and family. But, the irony is that in many cases our social circles have shrunk by the time we get to this stage or family is living too far away. There are so many ways for older people to stave off loneliness and meet others. Whether its joining a group, a book club or having someone to pop in for chat from a community volunteer organisation. Research shows that being social keeps our memories and brain function strong. The Care List might be able to help.

20.01.2022 "I know Mum and Dad need some help but Im so busy I havent had time to do anything about it," Its something we hear alot! Its tough trying to balance work and family. 5 ways The Care List can help. 1. A preliminary phone consultation to work out what help is needed and if the Government can pay for that help. Most people are entitled to some benefits.... 2. The first step to to a home care package is to have an ACAT assessment. We can make a referral to My Aged Care to ensure you get one. 3. We can do a home visit and together, build a care plan thats flexible and cost effective. 4. We set up your account, your care plan, and make sure all the paperwork is taken care of. 5. Give you 24/7 access to your account to keep track of appointments, invoices and the budget. Call us on 1300 939 458

06.01.2022 "We moved to be closer to the kids but we dont see them that much," It is astounding how often it happens. Loving grandparents, selling up and moving across town and sometimes across the country, to be closer to their kids who have families of their own. Who doesnt want to see their grandkids grow up, share their joys and laughter, and be part of their lives?... In the last week, weve talked to three clients who did exactly that moved interstate, but sadly it hasnt quite worked out the way they hoped. Its a story we hear regularly. Families have very busy lives these days. Both parents are working, the kids are constantly on the go - after school sport, music and lots and lots of homework! By the time everyone gets home theres no time to go visit Nan or Grandpa. Our clients are astonishingly frank when talking to us about being lonely, feeling isolated and in a few instances, depressed. Some, especially men, brush it off. They tell us life is no longer what it could have, should have been, in their twilight years. The biggest joy we get, amongst all the services that we can provide, is when we successfully introduce our clients to a new friend or a new group of people. Getting them out of the house and getting them moving, and meeting people who have similar interests. One of our clients is now taking tap dancing lessons, an Italian client, has a visit once a week from an Italian speaking volunteer who comes for coffee and our clients amazing home cooked biscuits. Weve found a new friend for another gentleman, and they talk fishing and football every week. For us its not just about finding a cleaner or taking care of medical appointments. We think its about helping our clients stay connected and living better lives.

05.01.2022 Loneliness can be as debilitating as any physical ailment. The Care List was able to help our client Leo Collins who had lost contact with many of his old friends. Through his home care package, we were able to introduce Leo to Darrell Avery @homeinsteadmelbourneeast. Read their story below.

03.01.2022 Sharp increase in Level 1 Home Care Packages given out. Aged Care Minister, Ken Wyatt is frequently heard telling older people that whatever level you are offered initially, take that offer, Since the the federal Budget back in May, The Care List, along with other providers, has noticed an increase in the number of people looking for help with a Level 1 package.... Many of these people are on waiting lists for Level 2 and 3 but quite a few are waiting for a Level 4. This is of course anecdotal as were still waiting to see the March report on the Home Care Package program. The Government is under fire for not releasing the latest waiting list data for the March quarter, with the Minister tweeting earlier his month that the figures would be released in August. Assessors around the country have been told to tighten up on the criteria for allocating high level packages and if they think someone can cope on a lower level package it needs to be considered. For those who have been waiting 12 months or more, the $8K provided by the Government on a Level 1 package at least gives them some help. But does little for those with high care needs. The last set of numbers from the Department had the waitlist at over 104 000 and all indicators suggest that number is set to rise.
