24.01.2022 Spring is Coming We acknowledged the change of seasons with the children this morning by singing some rhymes about Snails, Bees and mice and Read the "Big Yellow Sunflower" book. Then all the children were given a sunflower and zinnia seeds to plant in our garden. Harvey, Willow and Lisa had weeded and prepared the bed for planting during the morning. We encourage the children's daily interaction with all the creatures and plants in our garden by caring for and careful observation.

24.01.2022 Jalngay - Our Native Butterfly Garden! 'Jalngay' is a Bundjalung word for 'butterfly'. One of the actions in our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is Caring for Country. One way we are doing this is to plant local native plants that attract native butterflies. ... The children helped with the planting and are helping to water the plants. We are looking forward to seeing Birdwing Butterflies, Yellow Migrant Butterflies, Orchard Swallowtails and Regent Skipper Butterflies visit our preschool! Through Caring for Country, the children are showing respect for the environment and and becoming socially responsible.

18.01.2022 At The Channon Community Preschool, we believe: In surrounding children with the natural environment including plants, trees, edible gardens, sand, rocks, mud, water and other magical and wondrous elements from nature. In supporting spontaneity, risk-taking, exploration, discovery and connection with nature. In creating and encouraging awareness of environmental responsibility and implementing eco-friendly practices that involve staff, children and families. In supporting kindness and compassion to ourselves, to others, to animals and to the earth.

17.01.2022 Working on our Art for our Art exhibition Turning nature into art, using earthy colours and our finger tips to create markings.

15.01.2022 Just dropped some beautiful seedlings at the stall :)

13.01.2022 Today the children made green colour charts. We used different shades of green crayons, pencils, textas and paint to make marks on our paper. Then we went around the yard collecting a variety of different leaves. We found big ones, long pointy ones, round ones like lily pads and tiny ones - Killian especially liked finding tiny leaves such as a blade of grass. The children selected a leaf and tried to find the matching colour on their colour charts. We talked about colours li...ke olive green, grass green and lime green. Nature journaling and the close exploration of leaves helps the children develop a deep respect for nature and the environment in which they live.

10.01.2022 Newsletter Term 2 update 24.4.2020 Hello to all families and children, we hope you are all healthy and well during this very quiet time. We are missing you all and are wanting to provide you all with the latest news and recommendations from the NSW Department of Education and Care regarding returning to Preschool in Term 2. Early Childhood services are encouraged to remain open for children that do not have appropriate supervision at home. This could be because... the child’s parents or carer is delivering essential services to the community but will not be limited to this, we are open for vulnerable children also. Tuesday the 28th April is a pupil free day, So from Wednesday 29th we will be here for those children of working parents, who are well and healthy , please stay home if you have a snotty nose, cold or cough!. Public schools are encouraging students to still stay home for 2 weeks if possible and stagger a return in week 3, mid May. We will have a sign in table outside or at front gate, to limit the number of people entering the Preschool building & practice handwashing on arrival of everyone. We will play mainly outside in the fresh air and try to practice social distancing as much as possible! A huge thankyou all for your help and patience during this time. Staff will be providing some online stories and group times over the next 2 weeks on Storypark and Zoom. Please return your Toy Library tubs , preferably after 3.30 pm any day & we will clean them & organise another lot to borrow asap. Any Questions please feel free to call me on 0429075488 Lisa Kind Regards, Lisa Fosberry - Director

09.01.2022 At the Channon Preschool. the teachers aim to create beautiful, inviting environments for children to play in. Dramatic play areas are important for children to act out familiar scenarios and make sense of their world through exploring different identities and points of view. They offer children opportunities to take on roles, negotiate turns, solve problems creatively and develop skills across all developmental areas. Through dramatic play, children can express ideas and feelings and have the opportunity to understand and respect the perspectives of others.

07.01.2022 All our children love this story, definitely one of our favourites

04.01.2022 Risk Taking Today the children initiated a jumping game. They wanted to jump off the rock, so we moved some mats closer and a teacher stayed nearby to make sure the children stayed safe. For the little ones, the jump was an exciting extension of their skills. Some of the bigger children took longer and longer run offs and saw how far they could land their jumps. Some hit the mat and rolled while others did fancy twirls. The educators drew the line at back flips.... This activity also gave the children an opportunity to learn about waiting for your turn and watching out for your friends. When children take risks in a safe environment it provides opportunities for them to build confidence and learn valuable life skills. Children learn self-regulation, e.g., how high is too high to jump from? or how fast can I ride my bike and still stop quickly? When we restrict children’s opportunities it limits their growth. On the other hand, allowing children too much freedom too soon can mean they do not have the skills to cope with potential challenges.

03.01.2022 Sorry about the wrong phone number everyone!! This one is the right one!
