25.01.2022 This Sunday looks like its going to be another one of those fabulous market days here in our little village at The Channon. Trading hours are 9am-3pm and we ask... you to leave your pets at home. We have a diverse array of products with over 200 stalls filling our little venue. So much to see, so much to do, 2nd Sunday of the month here in the heart of the northern rivers. 20mins to Lismore 45 to Byron...make a day of it or come for a short visit...we know you will be impressed. http://www.visitlismore.com.au/ See more
18.01.2022 Resplendent in contemporary design using old stuff and in a beautifully weathered physical context, Dirty Old Town has some fantastic furnishings for any abode. And it's just up the road - a bit - at Eureka!
17.01.2022 Waterfront views as filmed of Terania Creek at the rear of The Channon Gallery. Still more rain to come! Stay safe!!
15.01.2022 Wow, lots of people in The Channon yesterday for The Channon Craft Market. It's a pity that the markets weren't on, given it was the third Sunday of the month - not the second! I wonder what we can do to spread the word to assist with more accurate information about when such events occur? Just about all of the travellers we heard about were from Brisbane and the Gold Coast - one couple from the Sunshine Coast. They stopped off at The Channon Gallery or the General Store to enquire. Such a shame that they travelled so far, but then, they were referred on to the Lismore Carboot markets, Protesters Falls, the Tavern and Nimbin - so not a complete fizzier of a trip. There is still lots to experience in these parts, although the Markets are pretty special.
11.01.2022 A Community Planning session for The Channon, Koonorigan, Keerrong, Tuntable Creek and Terania Creek was conducted today at The Channon Hall by Lismore City Council. There was perhaps a smaller than expected turn-out given the rich community/ communities that we have here! There were many of our local elders, some newbies, a few young ones - all engaged and enthusiastic. Councillor Battista was there for a number of hours earlier in the day and Mayor Jenny Dowell came along l...ater on to check on us all - both were very welcome! Annie, Lizette and Casie from Lismore City Council did a great job of contextualising the proceedings and the history of Community Planning - and keeping the group on track. Their genuine spirit of engagement (and the reality of the context in which the process was to work) plus the community spirit of the participants made for some interesting and meaningful discussion - and really 'getting into it' regarding community-led projects here in The Channon and surrounding communities. The next meeting on the 28th February at the Koonorigan Hall will add to this - and consolidate - as there were a few people who were not able to be there today. SO - get along if you would like to participate and contribute. AND please leave your cynicism and politics at the door. They are probably not all that helpful in this particular scheme of things - and there are probably more appropriate avenues to vent. There were some great ideas and potential actions stemming from the creative and value-laden local knowledge of participants at the meeting. Hence the importance of this sort of local engagement - and not necessarily the decisions from 'on high'. It would be great to get the input of some more of our younger community-members though. There will be a summary of today's proceedings and outcomes assimilated and conveyed by the Kelly sisters and others - plus our Council facilitators. Hopefully this will happen in the Terania Times ... will let you know! Thanks to all who showed up. Thanks to Council and particularly Annie, Lizette and Casie (and the caterers!). Thanks also to Louie the dog who just couldn't resist the human company, the tummy rubs and food scraps that the kind-hearted afforded him! Note: Photo stolen from Jenny Dowell's Facebook page. Thank you Jenny!!! It's so hard to share things on a 'page' from a person!
11.01.2022 Don't miss out on the pre-Australia Day celebrations and activities at The Channon Butterfactory Tavern starting around lunchtime TODAY. There's a new exhibition launch at The Channon Gallery this afternoon too - at 5pm for Mullum artist (Formerly Terania Creek), Imbi Davidson.
09.01.2022 Not wanting to be partisan-political, but one must wonder where exactly this country is headed with announcements such as this. http://www.theguardian.com//tony-abbott-admits-colleagues- Is it Australia Day or April Fool's Day?... Won't even go into the contradictions of what Australia Day may mean for all in this nation, but there are certainly well-founded mixed feelings amongst the sense of the sheer good-luck that we have to be able to live here.
07.01.2022 Great cause ... fun event!! :)
07.01.2022 'Big' weather coming! Stay safe people.
07.01.2022 The Channon, Dunoon, Modanville and many of our surrounding communities are within the PEL445 licence area. While we are not keen on partisan political posts, our ecological, social and economic future depends on engagement with politicians and voting down policies that threaten this future - and the political entities that enable these threats. While we are at it, we should also be taking them to task over innovation, investment and research across the energy spectrum.

03.01.2022 Community Planning Meeting No 2 (for community projects in The Channon, Tuntable Creek, Terania Creek, Koonorigan and Keerrong areas) is happening at the Koonorigan Hall on Saturday, 28th February. This is a follow-up to the first meeting at The Channon Hall to prioritise projects, but before then, there will be plenty of time to contribute additional project ideas. So if you couldn't make the first meeting, this next one will give an opportunity for your contribution. Things kick off at 10, but please try and get there around 9.30am.
