Both are a form of child abuse. One is covering up abuse, the other is implanting memories that abuse occurred when it hadn’t. ... The story on 60 Minutes tonight is yet another example of coaching which has horrific consequences. Not only for the people falsely accused, but for the children who were coached to make disclosures which were categorically untrue. These children are now traumatised from something that never occurred. In this case, the reporting parent belonged to a religious cult. The ethical question I raise is this: We must protect children from abuse and investigate allegations when they are made.
