22.01.2022 We were lucky enough to host our Volunteer Christmas Show and Paula’s farewell on the lawns of Sevenhill Cellars last night at short notice due to the COVID-19 lockdown, so thank you for having us. There were a lot of thanks to hand around. Firstly, to our manager Paula Jones who is leaving us to manage the Rawnsley Park Caravan Park with her husband. Thank you for everything you have accomplished at the Centre over the last 5 years. It has been an absolute pleasure to wor...k with you and our Region was very fortunate to have you working for and promoting it. Secondly, to our lovely and incredible Volunteers, for all the work you do to help us out. Stocking shelves, labelling stock, but most importantly assisting visitors to our region and making sure they have an unforgettable stay. This includes our Board of Management for making the Centre what it is today, we would be lost without all your support. Thirdly, to the very generous local wineries that donated wine as gifts last night. Everyone was very grateful and appreciated the kind gesture. 19.01.2022 MEET OUR SUPPORTERS Maria Holst Salomonsen of DanishDesign is a Fibre and Textile artist, living in Penwortham, in the picturesque Clare Valley. She has a small flock of hardy Finn cross sheep and a couple of Alpacas. Many of her items feature her own wool, which she processes by hand: sorting, cleaning, washing, dyeing and carding. Maria has been making one off bespoke felted accessories since 2005. Her light and colourful silk scarves, made from the finest merino wool and... hand dyed silk from Uzbekistan are a favourite. Her sturdy, hard wearing shoulder bags, come in many shapes and colours, all with a leather strap, an inside pocket for mobile and keys and zip or magnetic closures. Hand warmers, hats, eco dyed zip pouches and felted clothing are also in her repertoire. Over the past 5 years Maria has been making 3D sculptural art pieces. She has won several awards and prices for her felted sculptures and continues to push her art form and develop it further. Last year 2019 she had her first Solo exhibition; "Divergence", which showed for over 5 months in two regional galleries, Burra Regional Art Gallery and Barossa Regional Gallery. Her work has featured in many articles, in the Australian Felt Magazine, Grima, in worldwide colours of felt an international book with participants from all over the world, local newspapers and in the Adelaide Review. She has taught many workshops over the years, from school children to adults and always enjoys to talk about and share information about the wonderful world of felt and fibre.
