24.01.2022 We are seriously obsessed with this look!! We’ve been trialing some new colour placement and we can’t wait to bring them to our workshops soon. In the mean time here’s a little snippet of the colour break down ... 24.01.2022 Have you ever heard the phrase ‘under promise and over deliver’? It’s seriously so important! As hairdressers we want to make everyone happy, so we can say yes to everything. But what happens instead is your guest will lose trust in you . If you’re not sure what questions to ask hit SAVE and come back later and set yourself up for success.... Start with your clients GOAL. Break down some inspo pics to show different tones, depths, and placements. Make sure you’re both on the same page! Set a timeframe upfront! If you’re client is expecting 1-2 sessions but it will take 3-4, they’re going to be disappointed. Create a plan for them so they understand the process Break down the commitment! How often will they have to visit the salon? How much will they have to invest? Will their goal suit their lifestyle? Be honest and remember you’re the expert so you can give advice. Lastly - make a plan! What’s the most important thing for them TODAY so they leave happy? I’m doing some content planning for next year (eep!). What would you be keen to learn about? See more

23.01.2022 We love to colour brunettes by maintaining as much dimension as possible to prevent them from looking over coloured. Our gal amber @nomadhair nailed this stunning blend in our recent colour workshop. As you can see majority of the lightness is placed around the exterior of the hair and panels of depth are kept within the interior of the hair - making the lightness pop!... #hellohair #healthyhairrevolution #hairofinsta #melbournehair #hairspo #fckinghair #haircrush #goodhairday #hairinspo #hairgoals #balayageombre #balayagespecialist #hairpainters #mastersofbalayage #addictedtobalayage #showmethebalayage #balayageinspo#alburyhairdresser#sunshinecoasthairdresser#waggahairdresser#canberrahairdresser#corowahairdresser#griffithhair#melbournehairblogger#goldwellaus#nakhair#ghdanz#wodongahairdresser See more

23.01.2022 Can you believe 2020 is almost over?? It’s been a crazy and unpredictable year but it’s definitely flown. It’s easy to focus on the challenges but your energy flows where your attention goes. If you focus on the bad, the bad gets worse.... If you focus on the good, the good gets better. Not sure how to start controlling your attention and reframing your mindset? That’s okay! It takes practice. We still have our free mindset ebook available on our website to help you manifest opportunities and growth. 22.01.2022 Someone asked me the other day if I have a go-to gloss formula and honestly? The answer is no we customise all our colours. Customised colour sounds complicated but it’s easy when you go back to basics! I want to share a little hack I use when I’m standing at the colour bar wondering which formula to use...... 50% of the formula should enhance or counteract the underlying tone 50% for creating the desired colour. Then think about the overall technique and whether you need to zone tone, keep lightness around the face or add depth to the roots. #simple See more

21.01.2022 M A N T R A So much of business life is out of our control but it’s about what we do with what we have. Can’t travel for education? There’s so much online learning we CAN do!... 21.01.2022 Do you understand what your guest REALLY wants? When you’ve finished your consultation with your guest do you have a CLEAR vision of what your colour road map is going to look like? Does your guest understand and know what they will be leaving the salon with on that day?... Fully understanding the end result of what your client is hoping to achieve is essential when you're providing a service to them. Some key questions to ask your self post consultation is; Do I as the colourist have an image in my head of how the colour will look? Do I know what technique to use to get the desired result? Do I know what sectioning you use to get the result the guest is after? Have I explained to the client the ins and outs of the colour service today so they understand the service and the journey they are on? Find these tips useful? Hit save for later!

20.01.2022 I know I should be wearing gloves... but surely I’m not the only one who forgets? We tend to do a #basinbalayage when we want to create extra pops of colour or clean out existing ends. Along the way we’ve learned to:... always section out the hair and weave out any darker bits that we don’t want to add lightener on. hold even tension on the hair so it’s easier to paint. always always always blur any demarcation lines because how it looks when you paint is how it will process! #ballarathair #hairjournal #hairdaily #hairgram #hairtrends #hairobsessed #haircareaust #hairvideos #hairvideo #investinyourhair #fauxbalayage #paintedwave #dimensionalbalayage #balayagedhair #balayageartist #masterofbalayage #balayagedandpainted #balayageartists #wangarattastylist #northeastsalon #shoplocal #supportsmall #shopsmall #melbournehairdresser #melbournehairstylist #bendigohairdresser #melbournehairblogger #hairedu #haireducation See more

19.01.2022 That’s a wrap We finished our last edu day of 2020 with a BANG with the beautiful and talented girls from @salon__43. It’s hard to believe how much we have achieved with The Colour Society since we launched in January. We would love to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has welcomed us into their salon this year, everyone who has DMed us, worked with us or even just left us a comment You don’t know how much it means!

18.01.2022 At @loukahairdesign, our niche is lived in, organic colour work. Most of our clients only visit a couple of times a year for a refresh, keeping thing ultra low maintenance but that’s what we love to do. I wanted to share with you how we identified our niche so you can find yours. Why? Because when you know your niche you can attract your ideal clients and thrive working on the things you actually LOVE to do!... 1 Think about your dream clients. The ones you are super excited to see in your book when you come to work. Who are they? What makes them who they are? 2 Think about the work you love to do. Are you into blondes? Textured cuts? Vivids? What makes your heart sing! 3 Think about your location. Are there gaps in the services offered? Are locals happy with the options available? Will your ideal clients travel to your salon? There has to be a GAP in your local market. 4 Plan and grow. Once you know what you want to specialise in and who you want to attract, you need to make sure your skills are on point education is the key to constantly evolving and skilled in your niche area. What’s your niche? I’d love to know if you have one and if you found it easy to identify! #hairoftheweek #maneaddicts #hairtrends #hairlife #haircare #melbournehairblogger #hairdiaries #hairbloggers #goodhairdays #haironpoint #balayageombre #balayagespecialist #hairpainters #mastersofbalayage #addictedtobalayage #showmethebalayage #balayageinspo #bossbabemovement #hersuccess #bosslady #bossbabe #ladypreneur #bossladies #girlbosses #girlbossing #smallbusinesswomen #girlbossparty #knowyourniche #salonmarketing #balayage See more

18.01.2022 Are you afraid to try face frames on your guests ? Make sure you SAVE this for later because im about to tell you how to create a diffused face frame for a softer result Start with one baby light off the hair line (starting on the sides) followed by two medium weave highlights, and mirror on both sides.... Next we need to connect the sides to create the face frame around the hair line, following your clients hair growth take three medium to fine highlights on a slight angle. Then take three to four medium weaved teasy lights and blur the lightener into the tease. This is your holy grail when it comes to to creating a diffused face frame The tease ensures there is depth left through the root area and creates a veil over the blonde to create the POP. Stay tuned for a break down on this look !! #hairdressersmagic #melbournehairblogger #maneaddicts #maneinterest #hairnerds #australianhairdresser #hairstylist #fauxbalayage #paintedwave #dimensionalbalayage #balayagedhair #balayageartist #masterofbalayage #balayagedandpainted #balayageartists #sunburyhairdresser #wodongahairdresser #sunshinecoasthairdresser #northeastvictoria #northeastsalon #shoplocal #supportsmall #shopsmall #supportlocal #buyfromthebush #melbournehair #melbournehairdresser #melbournehairstylist #melbournecolourist #northeastvictoria See more

17.01.2022 Connecting with your clients is crucial in understanding to their needs especially when you’re just starting your hair journey together. Our fundamentals for a solid consultation start with three things... Take a seat! Make sure you’re at eye level with your client not speaking down or through a mirror.... Keep it open! Try not to ask ‘yes / no’ questions and give your clients time to really answer you. Be present! Stay focussed on who is in your chair... not the sink full of colour bowls or another client’s processing time. When it comes to clients booking and rebooking, your service is just as important as your skills. The details do matter. 14.01.2022 Yesterday we spoke about pricing and how you need to know your break even point to make your price reflects your running costs. But what about ensuring your price reflects the salon you WANT to be, not just covering the costs you have now? I’m always hearing from stylists that they can’t afford to invest in education, renovations, or personal development. We’re passionate about growth at @loukahairdesign that we factor it into our education budget .... We believe in having budgets to ensure we can track our salon expenses and investing the money in the things our business really needs & and of course education is a huge part of our business. 10.01.2022 Low-maintenance blonde... it’s a thing Are you finding it hard to convert your blonde clients to a more lived-in look? Try creating depth with low lighting and use their natural colour wherever possible! Space out your highlights and be strategic about where you want to see lightness and where you want to see dimension.... We also recommend moving away from the habit of 6-weekly visits. Low maintenance or lived in colours should be exactly that! So stretch out your appointments to avoid over colouring. We love to book a gloss appointment between full colour services to refresh everything and enhance the life of the colour. Are you on the low maintenance train yet? You can’t afford to be left behind with this trend! #hairoftheweek #maneaddicts #hairtrends #hairlife #haircare #melbournehairblogger #hairdiaries #hairbloggers #goodhairdays #haironpoint #thecoloursociety #TCS #loukahairdesign #hairdressers #hairstruggles #hairdresserslife #hairdressersofinstagram #hairdressersofinsta #hairdressersmagic #melbournehairblogger #maneaddicts #maneinterest #hairnerds #australianhairdresser #hairstylist #maneinterest #hairenvy #hairbrained #healthyhair #bestofhair See more

09.01.2022 Just a little bit of colour MAGIC Low maintenance & lived in colour are a huge trend as more and more clients want their colour to last the distance. Does this mean we see our clients less? Yes.... But does this also mean our clients trust us to deliver and keep coming back? Bigger yes. Our client Carly’s colour is a mixture of highlights, teasy lights and balayage ends. Because of the colour placement and the use of her natural base, it means her colour will grow out seamlessly. We will aim to see her again in 8 weeks for a short gloss service, then another 8 weeks until we see her for a fresh colour. We love our @redken shades eq for the shine and hydration they give our clients. Are you interested in learning to create lived in blends like this one? 08.01.2022 BRUNETTES & LOBS .. two of my favourite things . I dunno about you guys but when we are colouring lobs we love to leave depth through the back area of the hair this aids in dimension. (We avoid colouring below the occipital bone on cropped hair ) We find most brunettes don’t like blocky blends On our guest darcie our main focal point for the colour was around the hair line .. that’s where she wanted most of the impact so that’s where we focused majority o...f the colour . Our colour break down went like this Teasy lights using a medium weave + tip out using Redken flash lift + 10vol and ph bonder Root gloss 4n +5nw Mids to ends gloss 7p + 9nb we processed through gloss for 15 mins #fauxbalayage #paintedwave #dimensionalbalayage #balayagedhair #balayageartist #masterofbalayage #balayagedandpainted #balayageartists #bronde #brondebalayage #brondehair #brondehighlights #caramelbalayage #caramelcolour #caramelhair #caramelhighlights #caramelombre #caramelcolor #sunkissedhair#wodongahairdresser#melbournecolourist#darwinhairdresser#harveybayhairdresser#alburyhairdresser See more

07.01.2022 Are you aware of your salons running costs? We are always asked how we price our colour services and the first step is knowing all our running costs. Like... REALLY knowing our running costs. This is your break even point.... If you’re just taking a rough stab in the dark to price your services or basing them off your competitors it’s harder to tell if you’re even reaching your breaking point. So how do you know how much it’s even costing to open your salon doors each week? Start by making a list of every business expense you have: Rent Wages Water, Electricity, Gas Cost of colour used for the week (this can be determined by working out your monthly colour bill) Business debt any other costs - small and large (even refreshments) Once you’ve worked out your break even point, this becomes the figure your salons needs to be reaching just to cover all your running costs . Not reaching your break even point? It’s time to look at ways you can reduce expenses within your business or evaluate your service prices . Stay tuned this week as we talk more pricing! And don’t forget to save and share with your salon pals. #thecoloursociety #TCS #loukahairdesign #loukahairbabes #smallbusinesslove #smallbizlove #australianbusiness #smallbizsquad #australiansmallbusiness #smallbusiness #smallbiz #smallbizlife #smallbusinesslife #smallbizowner #smallbusinesslife #smallbusinessowner #smallbusinesslife #smallbusinessaustralia #smallbusinesslove #smallbusinesslife #smallbusinessaustralia #melbournehairblogger #hairedu #haireducation #saloneducation #melbournehairdresser #nakhair #melbournecolourist #hairdressersofaustralia #homesalonsaustralia See more

06.01.2022 How do you like to create your blends ? For us personally we’ve found teasing gives us the most seamless results when it comes to creating our colour work. From trial and error we’ve found... The bigger then tease leaves more depth through the root area.... Apply max product to mids then blend up to the tease - we’ve found this creates a smoother more blended transition area. Your tease matters - make sure you have even tension on the hair - hold the ends of the hair in your fingers and do one big tease of the hair (this also helps with an easy brush out) Find these tips useful? 03.01.2022 Repeat after me You do not need to colour every single strand of hair! Having natural depth in your colour is what creates low maintenance lived-in colour and makes lightness POP! In a perfect world we would always work with a clients natural base but if that’s not possible we can create depth by low lighting. After a couple of appointments, you’ll be able to work with your guests natural base to create dimension.... Colour break down for this dimensional blonde Face frame highlights + tip out Redken flash lift + 20vol and ph bonder Low light using triangle panels ; roots 6N 7nb mids 8n 9nb (we leave the ends out). 03.01.2022 Organic colour work is my vibe I’ve been working on this colour placement and I’m so excited to share it with you. This type of placement is all about where the client wants to see maximum lightness usually on the exterior of the hair. It’s all about working smarter to save you time behind the chair. Here’s how I created the face frame ... Take a central part - I like a centre part so the colour is even if your guest alters their parting. Take three diagonal back teased and weave sections and blend the lightener right up into the tease. You want the third foil to sit just behind the ear. Next take a baby light on each side of the recession. Right behind these baby lights you will take three horizontal sections, all teased. The fun part is you can do a mixture of weaves or slices depending on how much contrast you want with your face frame. Here I did weave, slice, weave (all teased). This blend is completely a raw lift with XERO gloss / toner and as you can see the blend is on point Don’t forget to hit save to refer to this technique later. And let me know below if you’ll try this face frame technique! #hairdressersmagic #melbournehairblogger #maneaddicts #maneinterest #hairnerds #australianhairdresser #hairstylist #fauxbalayage #paintedwave #dimensionalbalayage #balayagedhair #balayageartist #masterofbalayage #balayagedandpainted #balayageartists #livedincolor #livedincolour #livedinhair #livedinhaircolour #blendedhair #colourmelt #meltedroot #teasedhighlights #teasylights #colormelt #sunshinecoasthairdresser #wodongahairdresser #alburyhairdresser #northeastvichairdresser #thecoloursociety See more

02.01.2022 This is one of our most shown pictures when brunette guests visit us in salon. For us, it’s important to visually break down the image with our guest to really determine what they are wanting to achieve. So, let’s break down THIS image together (Don't forget to hit {SAVE} for later)!... What are they liking about the reference picture? Are they wanting to add lightness and variation through their colour - or are they wanting to be a solid colour? What level is their current natural base at? Are they wanting to alter their natural base? Zoom in on the tone! Do they like the richness that’s coming through or do they prefer more of a flat brunette? Can you see how with the above questions, we are dissecting every part of the image and bringing awareness to the guest of things they may not have thought of? Remember consultations play a HUGE part in the overall success of your final outcome!
