19.01.2022 As a woman of colour with strong family ties to the US, Ive had a really hard time processing everything & trying to find the voice to speak. Not for a lack of words, feelings & thoughts, but for the fact that, as a mixed raced person, Im tired. Tired of feeling like I have to explain my existence; tired of feeling like I have to justify my position in the world just because of the colour of my skin. Tired of the fact that people of colour are still being killed & discrimin...ated against by people in power - in the US and in our own country. Part of me really didnt want to post anything. I feel that I shouldnt have to - why in 2020 are we still here?! I know that to stay silent is not the answer, but to find the right words has been very hard for me. I know that my light skin has afforded me certain privileges, & so I questioned whether I have the right to say anything at all. The recent events make me sad & so angry. It brings forth a whole lot of issues & emotions around my own identity, that I still hold onto from growing up as a black child in a white community/school. Being asked at the age of 10 if my Mum was "taking a sh*t when she gave birth to me". It brings forth a whole lot of memories of not fitting in, being called a n*gger, & teased because of my afro hair. As a teenager, not seeing myself in the types of women that were portrayed in the media, or in the career that I one day might aspire to. Even in my adult life I still get odd looks from people, followed by that all too familiar question "where are you from?" As if to know my origins they will be better able to identify me, to put me in a category that is different or unusual. What does it matter what my background is? How about just asking how my day is! Treat me like a human instead of some curiosity. Im proud of my heritage, Im proud to share my story. But the colour of my skin doesnt define me. We need to start accepting people for people. We are all human! #blacklivesmatter is not a trend; its a quest for equal human rights! Im tired. Im frustrated. Im angry. Im sad. Im black. Im white. Im human. Im proud. Im speaking. Im listening. I stand with you! #equalityforall

The last few months have been very uncertain and stressful due to the impact that the pandemic has had on both my business and personal life. So, while things remain really quiet at the shop, Ive decided to take a little time out to refresh and rejuvenate, in order to come back with a clear mind and make plans for the future of my business. The store is currently still operatin...g on reduced trading days (as per hours on the website and in IG story highlights) and to this I will be adding two more days for next week only. From this afternoon the shop front will be closed from Sunday 14th - Thursday 18th June.
