25.01.2022 It’s important to give all dogs the space they need. My rule of thumb is that unless my dog can come back to me straight away when I ask I don’t let them off lead. This way we can avoid stressful doggie interactions that are harmful for other doggies and potentially dangerous for my dog

23.01.2022 Some of you may know my amazing dog Atom, for those who don't he has epilepsy and requires regular blood tests. Because he required so much medical care from a young age by the time he was 6 months old he became quite stressed about medical procedures. For a long time we used medications to sedate him just to do a blood test. Then I stumbled upon the idea of Co-operative vet care. The idea is to have your dog consent to medical procedures by giving them a cue to opt in (to s...ay yes im okay, keep going) and opt out (to say i'm not okay I need a break or lets stop). Since giving Atom the choice to have his blood tests things have been much easier! In this video you can see some prep work to get Atom ready to have a blood test. As long as he is lying down we will proceed with handling and he gets treats, as soon as he gets up we stop. If he wants to keep going he just has to lie down again.

19.01.2022 An interesting video that helps to put into perspective the stress of using added (positive) punishment. In this video they use a shock collar but often you will see people using check chains/leads.

16.01.2022 Starting to teach Atom to pair an object with a card ..... this is our first training session and this is only a very quick glimpse. We are learning together, I've never done this before, so you may notice that I change my approach as things go along if i find what i'm doing isn't clear for him :)

16.01.2022 When Giselle first arrived she was afraid of human touch and eye contact. After giving her some time to settle in and build a bond with me I started teaching her a "look" cue. Not only does this help to teach her to focus on me in distracting situations but also makes her feel better about eye contact. :)

09.01.2022 Some photos from our covid friendly puppy school yesterday

09.01.2022 Our Latest Puppy Graduates!!

09.01.2022 Puppy School Starting Soon! Have you got a puppy that is 8-16weeks old? Now is the perfect time to enrol into puppy school! What are the benefits of puppy school you may ask??? ... So Many! Did you know that dogs have a crucial socialisation period that ends at roughly 16weeks of age. In this period they develop social skills that stay with them for life. Puppy school is a safe and controlled environment that allows puppy’s to build confidence and equips them with essential social skills. We have other dogs at home that they play with, do we still need puppy school? YES! Socialising with familiar dogs is not the same as equipping you and your puppy with skills to navigate the big wide world. Socialisation isn’t just putting dogs together for them to run wild and free. In fact doing so can be more harmful if you have a dog that isn’t very confident. We are training them ourselves at home so we don’t need to come to puppy school do we? First off, Give your self a pat on the back for starting your training so early, That’s amazing!! At puppy school while we briefly touch on some basic obedience that’s not what we are focussed on. We focus on creating happy confident puppy’s that are ready to take on the outside world. This is done by not only socialising them with other dogs but with lots of different objects/sounds as well. How much is the course and how long does it go? Puppy Classes are run 1:30 on Saturday’s at the Yandina Vet Clinic. The course lasts for 5 weeks, with each class lasting roughly 1 hour and is $150 for the full course. If you have any other questions or would like to enrol into our next class please send us a message Classes are capped at 6 puppies so get in quick before spots fill up

06.01.2022 Making some pup-sickles for the doggies as it has been so hot! Dogs love frozen treats in the hot weather and these are very easy to make. Simply add some treats of your choosing (I was all out of fruit n veg ) then add water and freeze. To give a little extra flavour I’ve also added some sardine oil into the water ... Once frozen squeeze the sides of the container to get the ice block out I often squeeze it out on the grass in the shade

06.01.2022 Are you feeling a little overwhelmed by your dogs behaviour? Is this not the relationship you had in mind? Don't know where to start to get things under control?... Contact us today and we can start building that canine relationship you’ve always wanted!

06.01.2022 Training your dog to wear a muzzle can be a very helpful tool in many situations. It can also help reduce added stress at vet visits.

04.01.2022 We were half way through training when I thought "WOW! She is doing really well tonight, I must get this on camera! Here is a sneak peak into some of the cue's Giselle is learning at the moment.

01.01.2022 How amazing is this! My favourite Melbourne client has allowed me to share this with you all. They have been putting in a sensational amount of effort into training their new puppy and also teaching their 3 year old daughter how to respect puppy’s space. Doing so allows both pup and child to feel safe with each other and creates a fantastic bond! Miss D is only 3 years old and is well on her way to being a dog training super star
