11.01.2022 What is a Bistrot? A French Bistrot (with or without a t) is a small, often family run restaurant with a welcoming and friendly environment. In contrast to French Haute Cuisine, a bistrot will serve home-style, flavoursome and satisfying dishes. The first bistrots opened in France in the early 1800s. By the early 20th Century they had become very popular attracting all kinds of clientele, from Mr Nobody to famous Parisian artists and writers, from the working class to the high society.
