21.01.2022 Something simple and fresh for our BnB guests tonight. It’s been so lovely welcoming guests back to our Cottage accommodation and to Western Victoria during the last month. We’ve sure had a slow year. Since December last year in fact when the horrific bushfires stopped people from travelling followed by you know what. Here’s to a new year. Be safe and be kind to one another.

19.01.2022 Today we ticked a few jobs off: One was to harvest the purple Larkspur for drying. Thanks to Jackie @edan.and.rose. Jackie is a florist and a 2021 Horticulture student and has been helping me do the jobs I just can’t keep up with! We bunched and hung up the Larkspur and some white Statice - both are great for drying as they retain their shape and colour. ... We also made a lovely concoction of soil, rotting leaf compost, sheep poo and worm castings and potted on a few (45) more dahlias. See more

19.01.2022 I’ve longed for the opportunity to say; The Farm Stand has been Filled! But I can’t. Because I don’t have a roadside farm stand. One day...! So for now, I can say the Flower Cart has been stocked with $10 posies! ... The sun and the rain have made so many flowers bloom so I’ve cut a bucketful this morning and made some little posies, ready to come and grab. They’re here until sold out (but I’ll keep restocking it so they may never run out!) Please grab the posey and leave the jar so I can refill it. Most Ararat locals know where I am for pick ups but if you want one and need our address, please just message me. Angie See more

19.01.2022 Sweet Peas are here! I spent a good part of yesterday tying these back to the trellis as they got knocked around in a big wind last week. There are 3 varieties here: Anniversary, Enchante and High Scent

17.01.2022 A bouquet from last Summer. Airy and romantic with Dahlias I grew from seed. This one I’ve named ‘Antique’. Sometimes I found she blew her centre quickly and sometimes she didn’t. Still pretty, either way. Our dahlias are still 2 months away from flowering and I can’t wait for their beauty again!

16.01.2022 Rain soaked Ranunculus. These are from the 2nd patch of nuncs, only just starting. A few different shapes, textures and colours unfurling. Reminder for those people with pre paid Flower Subscriptions - they’ll be starting soon! Flower Subscribers get first pick of the patch - best in ground - if you like!

15.01.2022 I’m so grateful for this community’s support! I’ve had another busy start to the week and and have special orders on the weekend and next week. However... this heat and 36 again this Friday is making me nervous. Heat can open flowers early, can wilt plants, kill young seedlings and ruin the best laid plans. It’s a nerve wracking job - raising and growing to fill beautiful upcoming fresh flower orders! Please be kind Mother Nature! ... After a few orders completed this morning, I’ve got 3 bunches available for pick up. EDIT: All Sold, Thank you Please message me to reserve one See more

15.01.2022 Favourite colour palette of the week. Deliveries done and pick ups all ready. All bunches will have this theme because that’s what SEASONAL means - you get what’s in season. No out of season glasshouse grown flowers - everything we use we have cut fresh from our flower beds.

15.01.2022 A quick cut this sunny evening for Wednesday’s fresh flower orders and a couple of Flower Subscriptions. It’s going to be another busy day bunching, seed starting, planting out seedlings, tying up blown over plants, deadheading sweet peas and shovelling sheep poo.

14.01.2022 Back home after 2 days away. It’s been very hot, dry and windy in Ararat by the looks of the garden beds. I haven’t even checked down at the cottage garden beds yet but looks like I’ll be cutting like crazy this evening when it cools down - so lots of bunches available tomorrow! Get your orders in if you’d like to pick one up. I’ll be making $25, $35 and $45 bunches.

14.01.2022 This weekend was the best! I hosted 2 of my friends and fellow flower farmers, Lucy @pennyweightfarm and Hayley @therookblooms for the weekend and a well overdue catch up. They stayed at our bnb, a 118 year old cottage where my little urban flower farm is. These 2 girls are not only so generous with sharing their flower growing knowledge and great friends of mine, they also share a love of nature, birds, compost, drinking wine, eating loads of cheese ... and everything flo...wer related. Giving them a tour of my flower beds both here and at our home was such a privilege and it sure was well overdue. Thanks Lucy and Hayley for a great weekend. Ps, can you tell I just got a selfie stick?! See more

14.01.2022 Lovely florist, Liv, collected this bucketful of flowers during the week. Knowing she drives a significant distance for them makes me proud and very grateful. Knowing they’re as fresh as can be, they’ve come straight from the flower beds and made into bunches within a few hours. Knowing they’re grown organically without any harmful chemicals and pesticides. Knowing they’re grown locally and not imported and flown thousands of kilometres in a plane.... Supporting a small local business. These things are important to us. Are they important to you?

13.01.2022 Finally... Hampers are ready! I have sourced some really beautiful products to put in these hampers. Everything is designed and handmade in Australia by small businesses. I have found beautiful handmade vegan soap and lovely natural beeswax blend Hand Balm from a small business in Tasmania. These gorgeous Pure Soy hand poured Candles from the Mornington Penninsula, 100% Cotton Australian Flora Teatowels designed and made in Torquay and lastly yummy Winnow Chocolate blocks ...made in the Blue Mountains with the prettiest wrappers designed by the talented Shannon of Typo Flora. All my favourites in a cute little basket just for you! Note: Keeping faithful to our Environmentally Sustainable ethos, we refuse to use gross single use plastic cellophane, simply put the shredded paper into your worm farm or compost and reuse the pretty satin ribbon! There are 2 Hamper options... see previous post for photo. More details in Comments...

13.01.2022 Are you curious about growing Dahlias from seed? The thing is there is no guarantee what shape or colour the flower will be! It’s pot luck! I’ve got 3 favourite dahlias that I’ve bred from seed in previous years - See pics following the infamous Cafe au Lait Dahlia I’ve started quite a few dahlias from the beautiful Cafe au Lait dahlia seed I collected last year.... If you’d like to try one or some, I’ve got them for $8 each (4 for $28). I’m potting them up today, ready for Friday pick up. Be aware - it really is pot luck as the colour and petal shape you’ll get from a seed dahlia!

12.01.2022 I’m so happy with this little patch of Lupines this year. 2nd year in and so many blooms! Set in a sea of lush green leaves, the flower spires bend to follow the light and in the language of flowers, they mean ‘always happy’. This patch was started from seed in Autumn 2019. I’ll have a few bunches available Thursday and Friday

Pure Soy, cotton wick (no nasties) hand poured, just for me, by my friend Blondie Soy Candles. https://www.facebook.com/blondiesoycandles/ I couldn’t wait for daylight photos so I snapped some this evening- so the photos aren’t great but you can see how beautiful they are! And if only you could smell them! Scents including Japanese Honeysuckle, David Austin Rose, Jasmine, Orange Blossom and more. In the next couple of days I’ll share the 2 x Hamper Options and the full list of what’s included. Hint - everything is flower related (of course!) and is from Australian owned small businesses, just like mine. Handmade Rose Geranium soap in the hampers too!

10.01.2022 Sunday arvo spent making up hampers. My studio smells amazing from all of the beautiful scented candles and the soaps. My favourite part of making these up is actually adding in the gum leaves and gumnuts and sprinkling with dried flower petals! The A4 Calendar hampers are nearly sold through so I’m happy to make up a hamper with any ingredients you’d like in it, just ask and I can send you the options. Pick up or delivery available within Ararat or Ballarat

10.01.2022 Peony perfection. The sunlight through the petals makes it look like a painting Peonies take 3 years to mature enough to produce flowers for cutting. This is only year 2 for my peonies so I’ve pinched off nearly all the buds so the plant can put its energy into making great flowers next Spring and I can’t wait! I let this one flower though!

09.01.2022 I’m out cutting lots of these gorgeous Ranunculus this evening. 06.01.2022 Mother Nature at her finest - I am loving this vibrant blue Eryngium / Sea Holly at the moment. Such a statement stem all on its own and what a gorgeous natural blue colour against this freshly rained on background. There is currently more rolling thunder overhead after a lovely 40mm of rain.

06.01.2022 Fact: I might be the last person in the Southern Hemisphere to be dividing Dahlias. I’m still dividing clumps ready to plant out and I’m glad I looked in this tub that I though was empty because I just found 3 massive clumps of Winkie Krestel. 04.01.2022 Thank you local journalist, Jack Ward, for reaching out to find out how I kept my head above water during tricky COVID times. Homeschooling 2 little people and finding the time to keep our micro urban flower farm thriving sure was a tough time but support from local flower lovers helped us pull through! Eternally grateful Ararat Jack is such a professional young journalist, it was a pleasure chatting with him. You can read the full article in today’s Ararat Advocate and read more of Jack’s work at @Ararat’s Latest.

04.01.2022 You guys! This 2020 Top 9 has got me excited about Dahlia season again! We had an epic Spring season which included a magical garden and abundant flower patch and not to mention a lot of new followers and customers. Spring sown seedlings for Summer flowers were another story... They were eaten by slugs or dried out by consecutive hot days and not enough watering. We’ll have to wait and see what survives and hopefully thrives. ... At least the Dahlias are looking ok. Looking back you loved Tropical Dream the most with it’s soft apricot tonings. It’s featured in 3 of these 2020 top 9 posts! Here’s to a floriferous 2021 Dahlia season with loads of Dahlia spam coming your way! Dahlia Season - Feb through to May

04.01.2022 Brighten up your Long Weekend ! At the end of a busy day, I’ll often have some excess and shorter stems that I don’t like to waste. 03.01.2022 It’s a bit slow in the flower patch but we gathered a few edible flowers to decorate our Blueberry Cup Cakes. I made a new delicious icing too with blueberries, honey and cream. On yesterday’s adventuring to Glenpatrick and Elmhurst we picked up loads of fresh Blueberries from Michelle @elmhurst_blueberries

02.01.2022 You know that saying, when 1 door closes, another 1 opens... we said good goodbye to our beloved Ranuncs and look what I found in the patch today! Strawflowers! You all loved Strawflowers last Summer. You asked for them fresh, dried, just the dried heads, tucked into Christmas and dried wreaths and even seeds to grow your own. They’re just starting now so expect to see loads more over the next few months! ... One of the best things about Strawflowers is when they dry they retain their colour. Naturally! So no more to the bleached skeletons and chemically dyed horrors of the ‘Preserved Flower’ craze. It’s time to go. Give me natural any day! See more

02.01.2022 A big bunch of beautifully perfumed Phlox stems headed out today. And Safe to Sniff because we don’t use pesticides or any chemicals on our plants! Phlox has really great vase life, often lasting 2 weeks plus.

All flowers for today’s orders safely sitting in the A/C and some special ones in the flower fridge - which is a spare bar fridge so it’s little and only fits 1 bucket and a few jars. Maybe I’ll ask Santa for a big flower fridge...

01.01.2022 A lovely customer of mine, Kym, shared this pic of her 10 day old Ranuncs sitting pretty on her kitchen table. So beautiful that I had to share it. Trim their stems by 1.5cm every second day, replace with clean water, keep them away from heated rooms and they’ll last for 2 weeks!
