21.01.2022 Great post by @exercisinghealth and particularly timely with plenty of people working from home, seeing an increase in couch time, reduced motivation to stay active and all the rest. (Classic snowball effect) We actually had this chat while training with a colleague today, who mentioned she never feels her glutes while squatting and this post sprung to mind. If this resonates with you, try look at this time as an opportunity to address some of the issues going on in the body.... If you would like to open the can of worms on this topic or would just like to chat around injury management or performance enhancement, get in touch with our team. _______________________________________ Repost from @exercisinghealth Whenever one identifies a weak muscle, their first inclination is to strengthen it. Treating the symptom, however, does not always work. Sometimes, one needs to dig a little deeper to find out why the muscle is less active and became weak. When playing detective, it is important to remember that the human body is made up of complex systems. The key word here is: SYSTEMS. No one muscle functions in total isolation, but rather shares an agonist/antagonistic and synergistic relationship with other muscles. With all this in mind, one can then investigate the muscle in question, as well as, all its counterparts to find the root cause of the problem. @ The Cube Gym - Functional Health and Fitness

19.01.2022 Another post that resonated with us, this time from the ever polarising sports physio @adammeakins Often people are coming to us after long periods of inactivity or activity avoidance based on the idea that activity was threatening or damaging to their injury. Thankfully the tide is starting to swing on this in the rehab / sports world, however, there are still plenty of people who need to be educated or reassured that doing something active is fundamentally better then the... alternative of inactivity, which typically results in dramatic de-training leading to vastly reduced capacity and often exacerbated injuries or pain. If your someone that has been scared off training or have been advised to do so in the past, get in touch and we can help put together a strategy to get you back! www.thecubealliedhealth.com.au @ The Cube Gym - Functional Health and Fitness

16.01.2022 Single Leg Squat Isometric assessment on the AxIT force plates. This is providing clear objective data for SL Knee (quads) and Hip (glute) peak forces and rate of force production (RFP). As you can see there is a 14% difference in peak force and 17% in RFP. This provides us with trackable data as we look to reach the goal of getting these <5% as part of our ACL rehab / management. Other tests performed on the force plates were double leg landing, vertical jump, mid thigh pull and hip abduction using the dyno. @ The Cube Gym - Functional Health and Fitness

08.01.2022 Dynamic Strength Index - a ratio between an athletes ballistic peak force and dynamic or isometric peak force. At @thecube_alliedhealth we can use a CMJ and IMTP on the force plates to determine an athletes DSI. Example Athlete @kaizenpt had peak force values of 280.6 kg for CMJ and 336.8kg for IMTP giving him a score of - .83 . 08.01.2022 What tissues of the human body get stronger when loaded? Your body is Strong... Tough Adaptable Robust Heres a great summary of research showing what tissues adapt to load. Thanks to Anthony Halimi, Masseur-Kinesitherapeute D.E and The Kettlebell Physio for making this infographic. We have so many great infographics like this freely available on our website. 08.01.2022 A pyramid is only as tall as its base Now is a unique time for the majority returning to the gym following an absence of training, in particular weight training. For most, now isnt the time to go in and max out on a deadlift or squat. Instead, we recommend you slow things down, work on your technique and gradually increase volume and load, using the Progressive overload principle.... Try basing your strength programs around 3-4 compound lifts, 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps at an RPE of 8 (2 reps in reserve), and aim for 2-3 strength focused sessions / wk. With an emphasis on technique and controlled movements. With this you will fine tune the movements again under safe loads (especially if you have spent months on the couch), increase muscle strength and tissue quality. Build that foundation for better results longer and reduce your chance of injury. If you have any concerns about where to start, reach out and we can help you out here @thecube_alliedhealth
07.01.2022 Happy Birthday to @supa_jeffcoat getting stronger with 55kg for 6 reps.
06.01.2022 Understand your Squat! Shout out to @dr.samspinelli for this awesome infographic sequence that does a great job of representing a few of the factors that will influence a persons squat. For us working day in and day out with clients and athletes we see a huge variance in squat patterning, and we understand why, this post is more for our clients to help then understand what they might be experiencing with their own squatting in the gym or other. ... The real key message in this post for us is to appreciate that your squat may not necessarily match up to your training partners or someone youre trying to chase down in the gym. So accept yourself, before you wreck yourself! Find a professional (us or other) that can work through what will be most appropriate for YOU, work through some key principles of squatting (non-negotiables) and fine turn things to maximise your day to day strength and performance. The Squat is a fundamental movement that should be performed regularly and performed well! Its never wrong to be strong! @ The Cube Allied Health
