22.01.2022 Extra opening hours for December

19.01.2022 Recently I wrote a new blog and forgot to post a link to it here. I so often hear remarks in general conversation about the fact that owning a cafe is seen as a licence to print money if not blatant daylight robbery that I decided to address this misconception. I've just been prompted to post the link by a phone call I received a few minutes ago from someone I don't know at all. Gwenda rang and said she wanted to give me a hug (obviously not literally) and say 'thank you' f...or writing this article as they run a bakery and she totally related to what wrote. If you're one of the many people I've heard complaining about the price of your cup of coffee, please don't think I'm having a go at you personally, I just want you to understand another's point of view. https://www.thecupandmug.com.au/blog

18.01.2022 Elizabeth, I have your bowls and will bring them tomorrow. Are there any other last minute requests for the Polish Festival at Fed Square? My husband says we have NO MORE ROOM but I'm sure we can always squeeze in one last thing .

17.01.2022 I've been very busy packing and unpacking lately. Last Thursday was the Christmas Market run by the Australian German Welfare Society which was held in the beautiful setting of the Melbourne Town Hall. The next adventure is my trip to the European Christmas Fair at the Polish House in Hobart on Sunday 8th. I'm very excited because it's a lovely fair and Tasmanians are so friendly (that's not just my personal bias - the Australia Talks survey bears this out). I'll be on the Spirit of Tasmania on Thursday evening so Wednesday is the last opportunity for special requests of things to bring. Just because I bring it, doesn't oblige you to buy it.

17.01.2022 Thank you and very best wishes to all our wonderful customers for your support during 2019. It has been so heartening to hear an increasing number of people articulating both their commitment to supporting independent retailers (because I want you to still be here next year) and to purchasing high quality products that will last a long time. We will be open on Friday December 27th and Saturday 28th from 10am 4pm but then closed until January 22nd. However, from January ...1st Tim is more than happy to help you after hours. We need to leave someone to hold the fort. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and holiday season, Heather, Graham and Ashley See more

15.01.2022 Sometimes carting our heavy and breakable wares around the countryside to places like the Violet Town Market and the European Christmas Fair seems way too hard. But an amazingly beautiful sight like this from the deck of the Spirit of Tasmania last Monday evening makes it all worthwhile. Looking forward to the last 2019 trip to Violet Town Market on Saturday.

12.01.2022 The Cup&Mug is still open for in-person shopping, phone, email and online shopping. When I send online orders I use as little new packaging as possible. It seems totally ridiculous not to be recycling perfectly re-useable material - which I acknowledge is much more easily done by a very small scale business. I have the family trained to save suitable boxes and packaging and that is how I came to re-use the best box ever this morning. This Milwaukee box was so sturdy and inv...iting that Smokey, who adores boxes, just had to try it out. I felt I had to wrap it in brown paper as well because if any type of parcel is likely to go missing one that appears to be good quality tools would probably be a likely target. Polish crockery, on the other hand, apparently is not to be such a temptation for a thief. When discussing security at our warehouse with our cabinet-maker neighbour, he advised me to leave my blind up so that people could see in. He thought no-one would try to break-in if they could see our products!

08.01.2022 The Cup&Mug at 153 St George's Rd is continuing to open while that's still permitted. I'm really just keeping a normal routine while I can - I'm not expecting to be overwhelmed by customers. If you come to the shop and I'm not there, I'll be upstairs - just ring me. I do hope you're finding some consolation in all this - I'm aiming to use up my yarn stash (my husband says this COVID-19 crisis can't possibly continue that long )

07.01.2022 And, as I've heard a number of people say in more recent days, I want you still to be here when I next need you.

06.01.2022 Violet Town Market this weekend. The weather will be cooler on Saturday so venture out. If you'd like one of our gorgeously cute rabbit plates (yes, last Violet Town Market before the Easter holiday period) we'll be bringing a few, randomly chosen, or you can request to see particular ones. They're now on display in the shop too. There are 3 sizes but not all sizes are left in al patterns. First in, best dressed. To see them online go to:... https://www.thecupandmug.com.au/store//Plate%3A_Rabbit.html See more
