19.01.2022 I'll be honest - as a child growing up in my sunny island, Eid was all about the money ...Ok, and cookies! Us kids would look forward to collecting green money envelopes from relatives (grandparents and youngest uncle/aunties were usually the most generous!) and looking back we were like mini bounty hunters when we went visiting our teachers and classmates homes. Tallying up our takings at the end of Syawal would be thrilling, as we would be able to buy that Brick Game (can ...you guess my age already? ) or whatever we had set our eyes on that season. . May Allah swt forgive my younger self for her shortcomings and misguidance. The money envelopes have taken on a different meaning as an adult now - it's about seeking out our elders and giving back, and for our young ones too, in the spirit of making memories and making Eid as joyous and festive as I remember it to be. .
