24.01.2022 SEPSIS FRIEND 12 Meet Korina, a Sepsis Survivor and Quad Amputee. Korina is married to Daniel and a mother to two young children, Hayden and Amelia. In April 2...015, one week before her 28th birthday, with a 3 year old and 5 month old, Korina became seriously ill with symptoms doctors thought to be influenza. She went to the local emergency two days in. A further two days later, Korina had a cardiac arrest whilst they were trying to give her a lifesaving plasma transfusion. She was down (dead) for 43 minutes. Everyone worked tirelessly to bring her back. As a result of Sepsis and all of her organs shutting down, Korina's extremities, her hand, arms, legs and feet, did not get a supply of blood or oxygen so they had to be amputated. She also lost the tip of her nose which has since been reconstructed. Korina tells us she is "Thankful every day to be here with my husband and kids." We are very lucky to have Korina and Daniel in our lives. We have met them through Sepsis and Quad Amputee gatherings. They have been an amazing support to us over the last 3 years in adapting to life with Mia as a quad amputee. They are very generous with their time a really lovely family. Thank you for your support. It means a lot to us. Please SHARE each story I post for the next 13 days. We never wish any other family to go through what we have. It is devastating to suddenly have your loved one critically ill in hospital on life support and wondering if they will make it. Our life long passion is to raise awareness and save lives. Every Australian needs to know about sepsis and feel empowered to go to hospital and ask if it "Could it be Sepsis?" Sepsis kills more adults across Queensland than breast, prostate and colorectal cancer combined, and more than road traffic accidents. It is extremely alarming that 40 per cent of all Australians haven't even heard of the disease. We never had. We wish we had. :( SEPSIS is SPEEDY - It can take anyone and I really mean ANYONE from healthy to critically ill within hours or days. SEPSIS IS SNEAKY - Symptoms look like the flu or gastro. #sepsiskills #worldsepsisday #coulditbesepsis #silentkiller #sepsisawareness #quadamputee #sepsissurvivor Korina Valentine

01.01.2022 WARRAGAMBA POOL EXTENDED HOURS THIS WEEKEND Great news! In light of the severe heat wave conditions forecast for the area this weekend I have spoken to the Dire...ctor of Infrastructure at council to see if it would be possible to have extended opening hours at Warragamba Pool this weekend given the lack of private pools in the Warragamba area and until we can finalise the long term solution to the opening hours of the pool at the December council meeting. The pool will now be open until 9pm tonight and 10pm Saturday and Sunday, given the extreme temperatures. Huge thanks to the staff for addressing this issue at very short notice for the benefit of our community.
