25.01.2022 Today is R U OK DAY. Each year we lose over 800,000 people to suicide and it’s one of the top 10 leading causes of death. Eight Australians die every day by suicide. That’s more than double the road toll. 75% of those who take their own life are male. Over 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt each year.... These stats are from 2018. They’re the most recent stats we have which is disappointing that it’s not up to date. The numbers will be higher and covid will impact these numbers too. Many people always say today, but why today? Why not everyday? We are actively trying to prevent suicide and give men a space to feel safe to come to get support every single day. The question is are you? Are you doing the things everyday to actively support those around you? Checking in, listening and rechecking in? Today I want to ask everyone to reflect on their own practices with the people around them and really think about if they feel that they can do more from today forward. R U OK DAY is everyday. It should be in our daily practices. Our every conversation. Think about how we talk to people. The questions we ask them. The things we say- are they supportive or dismissive? Listen and don’t try to fix. Be there without being asking. Follow up check ins are important. Have the support lifelines one hand. You could save a life.
19.01.2022 Find it and don't let go..
15.01.2022 We still have so far to fucking go if it’s entertaining or funny to see a man breaking down on worldwide television for his wife being with another man and for him expressing his feelings or showing emotion. We should be so much better than this shit. It isn’t funny to see another man sad, crying or expressing his shit. This makes me realise we still have so far to go
