25.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the males in our world! We are fortunate to work with so many hardworking and dedicated dads! We love that these tradies prioritise their families by ensuring they are home for footy practise or the dance class car pool! Its so great to see the balance of work and family being a top priority with so many! We do need to make special mention to two dads who are not only wonderful fathers to our children, but also our biggest cheerleaders w...hen it comes to this business adventure we are on! Without their support we would not have taken the leap!! They are also so damn handy on the tools! We know we are lucky to have such clever men in our lives! Sometimes we complain about them not following our instructions or not understanding why we want it to look a certain way, but they always just suck it up and get the job done (well eventually anyway! ) Thanks for all you do Aaron and Luke! and happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful people who represent a fatherly figure in a childs life! 24.01.2022 Wow! What a year we’ve had! 2020 threw some curveballs! But with all of those came lessons... and the big one for me was to slow down and do what makes me smile! I’ll never forget 2020 as being the year I took the leap into my own business. With butterflies in my stomach and a creative friend by my side, Anna and I started The Design Project & co. We were supported by not only our families but also the first few clients who saw something in us that gave them the confidence ...to include us in their renovation project. Sadly, family commitments have made Anna take a step away from the business, but I knew once I had stepped into this world there was no turning back for me. I just loved the work and the people too much! So using my word of the year, COURAGE (yep, a bit woo woo) I’ve continued on the journey with our amazing clients and taken on new ones since. It’s been the most rewarding experience to be able to connect with and support our clients through their renovation journey. And I couldn’t have done it without the support of the creative and clever trades and professionals that help turn a project into a real life dream space! The & co. part of our business name has really formed and I’m excited to see this continue to grow stronger into 2021. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all a happy and healthy (and gosh don’t we know the meaning of that word!) 2021!! I hope it’s as amazing as we all dream! And thank you to our clients who trust not only me, but also our trade family into their homes to re-create spaces they have been dreaming of! It’s truly something special!! Bring on 2021! See more

Lucky we love what we do so theres no early marks needed for us! Happy FriYAY yall!
23.01.2022 Panelling is so hot right now...and the question is will it date? We say a big fat NO, its been around forever and is timeless. One tip when using panelling, dont be afraid to add some colour to your paneled walls, it can not only add some texture but a real statement. When you feel like a change of Colour simply paint over and you have a whole new look...in a weekend @ Newcastle, New South Wales
22.01.2022 Our top 5 tips on how to nail your bathroom Reno! 1) Failing to plan is planning to failConsider your bathroom layout carefully before starting your renovation. Once plumbing is set, its very costly to change!! If the layout works as it currently is, why not leave it there. Moving plumbing can be very costly! Once you have your plan, ask your tradies to look over it to see if they can identify any issues. If not, sign off on the plan and stick to it! 2) Waterproofi...ng is like insurance! Make sure you get this stage right! You dont want to spend thousands of $$ on a bathroom reno only for it to leak a few years down the track and have to rip it all back up! Leaking bathrooms not only cause structural damage but can attract nasty termites! White ants love damp timber! 3) Timeless Tiles! We all love being on trend or being bold with colour. But tiles are not the place to do this if you cant afford a remodel again in a few years. Stick with more muted, safe and classic colours in your tile selections. To add a bit of wow, experiment with tapware and towels! Its much easier and more affordable to change these later! 4) Its one thing to pin storage ideas to Pinterest and its another to actually implement them! A bathroom reno provides you the perfect opportunity to overhaul your current storage solutions! Consider what you need to store in your bathroom when planning the layout. Do you need face level storage? Have you got an unused corner you could add another cupboard or open shelves to store clean towels? This could take the pressure off your existing linen cupboard situation! 5) Light up the world! Lets face it! First impressions count! We all use the bathroom to groom ourselves to feel better stepping out into the world! You need adequate lighting for that! Consider what type of lighting you will use and where it will go. Lights can cast shadows so ensure you think about this stage carefully! A licensed electrician can be a valuable source of practical advice on what would serve you best! Feel free to share your bathroom reno tips below. @ Newcastle, New South Wales
21.01.2022 Happy FRIYAY Weve had a busy week planning some pretty awesome spaces and now its time to wind down for the weekend with a or But back to business Monday to plan some more...planning is key to a smooth renovation or build
20.01.2022 Knowing where to spend and where to save during a renovation can be tricky! One room we like to save our clients moneyis in the laundry... lets face it the door gets closed when visitors come over anyway! Opting for laminate bench tops is a clever way to save. Laminate has come a long way and has many options. Their stone and timber look laminates allow for a high end look for a fraction of the price. ... DIY open shelving can also keep the costs down! Open shelving creates space and gives you somewhere to display decorative items like baskets or plants. These little touches makes that dreaded laundry room more welcoming...for all that ironing and folding !

16.01.2022 We all know that kitchens are the heart of the home. But how do we ensure this important room is functional while still being beautiful? Light colour layout and texture . The use of colour, texture and light, both natural and artificial, help to create that feeling of warmth that is needed from a kitchen to radiate family and togetherness. While all this is critical, doing this is not only going to make your kitchen beautiful but also functional. The use of windows (...like this clever window splash back in @saltshoalbay kitchen) skylights and pendants is also a practical way to light up the kitchen so we can safely prepare food. Using natural fibres such as rattan pendants (shown here by @zephyr_and_stone), open timber shelving (perfectly displayed by @frontporchproperties) and natural fibre flooring bring earthy connections to the space. The use of colour in the kitchen creates mood and sets the scene for the remainder of the home. All of this radiates warmth from the kitchen but also provides necessary storage, lighting and practical flooring solutions. Its a win/win! Layout is key! Layout is the critical first step in planning your new kitchen and careful consideration needs to be given to the infamous golden triangle and the 3m rule that helps to create flow, practicality and cohesion. So practicality can also be beautiful! It just takes some careful planning and clever considerations to tick both of these boxes. Photo cred @saltshoalbay @zephyr_and_stone @frontporchproperties

15.01.2022 We were lucky enough to work alongside Evolve Co Architectural Builders earlier this year and loved their expertise and commitment! As part of the 12 Trades of Christmas series we asked Luke all about his year to date and his hot tips on selecting the right builder for you! What is your No 1 tip for anyone thinking about starting a renovation project? When looking at quotations, it’s important to compare apples with apples. We charge for quotes, depending on the size of t...he project, reflecting the time involved. It’s a small price to pay when you think of how much a build costs and ensures the Builder is taking the time to fully research and itemise the build. This reduces the likelihood of variations and hidden costs throughout. When building with us, we are extremely thorough and transparent with this phase of a project. This ensures there are solid foundations for a stress free and enjoyable build! What was the highlight for your business in 2020? After a tough year due to COVID, we’re fully booked for 2021! What are some of the future trends you see related to your trade for 2021? Clients being more aware of the benefits of a collaborative approach. Finding your Team, which can include the Builder, Architect/Draftsman and Designer/s, early in the design phase can help you achieve your desired outcome sooner and save you time and money as realistic expectations are set. What has been your funniest experience on site this year? I have an excellent joke about construction but I still need to work on it! What would you like your clients to know going into Christmas? I think this year has made everyone reflect on what matters most. Enjoy the time with family and loved ones. To get in contact with Luke email [email protected] or call 0402 572 922.

Check out his Tradie insider tips! What is your No 1 tip for anyone thinking about starting a renovation project? You can’t just remove walls on the fly mid project ... What was the highlight for your business in 2020? Surviving COVID whilst launching a new business, being my own boss and being able to spend more time with my family. What are some of the future trends you see related to your trade for 2021? Curved timber everything #theblock2020 What has been your funniest experience on site this year? 13.01.2022 On our third instalment of The 12 Trades of Christmas series, we spoke to our regular bright spark (couldn’t help use that pun ) Jason from ComServ about staying safe around electricity and his thoughts on future trends!! Check it out below: What is your No 1 tip for anyone thinking about starting a renovation project? It’s dangerous and costly if you get it wrong. Leave it to a professional!... What was the highlight for your business in 2020? Being fortunate enough to maintain a job/business and have a healthy family in tricky times What are some of the future trends you see related to your trade for 2021? The downward cost and increasing range in home automation along with domestic renewable energy options What has been your funniest experience on site this year? Watching another tradesman open a switch room door and come face to face with a possum, not sure who moved the quickest and possibly required a change of underwear What would you like your clients to know going into Christmas? It’s a very busy time of year for everyone so be excepting if you can’t get your jobs completed prior to Christmas. Stay safe!
13.01.2022 We caught up with Roger from Skin & Bones Building as part of our 12 Trades of Christmas series. Roger talks about how communication is key in a smooth build/renovation and how he likes to bring the dance moves on site. What is your No 1 tip for anyone thinking about starting a renovation project? My No 1 tip for home owners engaging a builder to do work on their home would be to maintain good communication...from quoting stage through to completion. It’s the best way t...o be on the same page with the build, and keep in the loop with budget. What was the highlight for your business in 2020? Completing a project for an amazing family in Merewether who were absolutely wrapped with their new home. It’s the best feeling to do the hard work and have it pay off with a happy customer. What are some of the future trends you see related to your trade for 2021? I feel like the biggest changes have come in 2020 with the arrival of COVID. Site restrictions are changing...sometimes by the day! lead times on imported products have noticeably slowed....some completely stopped. Government stimulus grants have boosted demand....It will be interesting to see how the building industry will be effected over the coming years. What has been your funniest experience on site this year? When your song comes on the radio on site, sometimes you just can’t help but do a little dance, or sing along (like you mean it)....every now and this is disturbed by a surprise visit from a client...I’ve been caught busting out in song a little more than I would like! Haha What would you like your clients to know going into Christmas? Renovating...or even planning to build/renovate can be stressful. Enjoy the break with loved ones. Turn off! Come back in the new year with a fresh mind. To contact Roger for your next construction project email [email protected]
