22.01.2022 Happy Friday, beautiful people! We are over the moon with the response we're getting for the inaugural Knock-Offs. Hope you're all counting down the hours like we are!
22.01.2022 Congratulations to For the People who took out a Pinnacle Award in the 'Design for Good' category at the AGDA Awards over the weekend. 21.01.2022 Who’s thirsty? We’re kicking off a new industry social night and you’re invited. It’s called Knock-Offsan ode to one of Australia’s favourite activities and a perennial feature of our creative industries which some call a curse, others call flattery. Come meet the new DIEMEN committee members, share war stories, hopes for the future and, most importantly, a drink (non-alcoholic if that’s your jam. But not jam. That’s just weird). We’re lucky enough to live in a state where this is possible (knock-on wood)let’s make the most of it!

17.01.2022 To make it through a crisis you have to think laterally. Or 3D-ally. Document Management Tasmania did just that when their 3D printing work from commercial and education clients dried up. Phones grew quiet; their backlog became a log. To keep their MakerBot Lab humming and their employees busy, they pivoted to PPE. Since the pandemic began they have printed and donated thousands of visors to organisations such as Community Based Support, TasIVF, Pharmacy Guild of Australia a...nd Corumbene Care. They are also sharing the design for free for anyone who wants to print some themselves. Read more and follow their work in the link below. Let us know if you have seen any cool examples of Tasmanian business adaption. It’s a hard act to follow; as we all know, nothing is cooler than a visor.

13.01.2022 Labels: Teenagers, polymaths and renegades might resist them, but consumers are propelled by them. That’s why we award a prize for the best designs. We were recently impressed by this multi-tiered, triple-threat from Revolution Print in Alfredton, Victoria. In this case, more is more. 07.01.2022 While we love looking to the future of the industry, here is an extraordinary opportunity to capture some of its history. https://www.sprinter.com.au/thousands-of-melbourne-museum-/
04.01.2022 To state the obvious, this has been an unprecedented time for the world, the country, and all of us. Craft and creative industries are under immense pressure to keep their heads above water due to the knock-on effects of COVID-19. But we have hope that important stories will come out of this. Inspiring and heartbreaking ones. Though our industry is hurting and jobs and businesses will be lost, we know that our skill sets will be vital for adapting and rebuilding in times of c...risis and change. At no other time in recent history has it been more important for us to come together and support each other wherever we can, through this social and economic disruption. We are not sure what the Diemen Awards will look like this year. More on that soon. In the meantime stay safe, reach out (via Zoom of course) and share your stories with us. We’re keen to feature stories over the coming months of the personal and professional challenges that you or your business are facing, and the help you need. Please feel free to Direct Message us. All I maintain is that on this earth there are pestilences and there are victims, and it's up to us, so far as possible, not to join forces with the pestilences. Albert Camus, The Plague
03.01.2022 Futago has invited Alaskan typographer Karen Larsen to collaborate on a large scale public artwork for the people of Clarence Plains (Clarendon Vale, Rokeby, Glebe Hill & Oakdowns). Karen creates pieces that explore quirks on this planet she finds interesting. While graphic designers typically spend their time in front of a computer, Karen’s always been interested in what design means in the environment. How we interact with a space, change our sense of place, look at the sa...me thing differently, these aspects of design keep her going. This Monday - Nov 11 - Karen is giving a talk her large scale outdoor work in Alaska and her creative process. Grab your tickets here for a truely unique evening. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/northern-scale-tickets-7948
03.01.2022 As you might have guessed, due to the ongoing disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diemen Awards Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone the 2020 awards. While we are deeply disappointed, the disruption has provided us with a promising opportunity. A change of date has been flagged for some time by our committeethe current schedule exists in a crowded space, with end-of-year work commitments competing with our nominee’s available time to present entr...ies that do justice to their work. So, starting from 2021, we’re moving the awards to the start of the year. The Diemen Awards have been steadily growing momentum as one of Australia’s leading creative industries awards with categories showcasing the very best in design, digital, advertising and print. We’re optimistic a date change will only continue this trend. If you were planning on entering and are proud of any campaigns you’ve done during the disruption, we invite you to use this time to consolidate and collect your work for the awards early next year. We expect we’ll all need a party by thenand we’ll be here for you. Whether you’ve been an entrant, judge, sponsor, an attendee, or simply follow us on social, we are grateful for all the support you’ve given the Diemen Awards. Our awards also foster our creative communityit is in times like these we need to come together and support each other. In the mean time, you can always enter this years AGDA Design Awards. They are currently calling for entries, and we know there is some sensational work out there that is worthy of winning.
