22.01.2022 Older generations who haven’t grown up with social media often don’t understand it and don’t want or know how to deal with it, but it is not always the answer to tell athletes to simply ‘stay off social media’ This is because social media is now so much more than a networking platform - it also acts as a news aggregator, a marketplace and also where we find the bulk of our entertainment. Athletes need a proper education in social media that clearly demonstrates the potent...ial ramifications of engaging online; not just a code of conduct or scare tactics. #TheDigitalAthlete

19.01.2022 "Obviously didn’t think St Kilda would have made finals, not well planned. You can always have another baby, you may not get the chance to play in another finals series!" One-eyed football fans, and especially those who have not seen a finals campaign in some time, are having a hard time understanding Carlisle's decision to put family first. What would you do in this situation?... #TheDigitalAthlete

16.01.2022 "But how is it in a network where Daisy Pearce has become one of the best special commentators in the country, and the face of footy news is Jacqui Felgate, that we have to put up with rubbish like this?" #TheDigitalAthlete

12.01.2022 is an important content pillar when it comes to social media in sports and delivering shareable content, so Did You Know or Fun Fact posts are always a winner. We’re currently working with the Australian Lacrosse Association and just discovered this ripper: Hannah Nielsen is on track to become the first female Australian lacrosse player to play in SEVEN World Cup events. ... That’s two U19 and five senior events including next year’s 2021 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship in Towson, pending team selection. Hannah played her college career at Northwestern University where she won four NCAA Lacrosse national championships and received The Tewaaraton Trophy in both her junior and senior seasons. She is now head coach of women’s lacrosse at the University of Michigan. #TheDigitalAthlete

11.01.2022 For high-performance people, high-performance athletes, high-performance coaches, that’s enough to take away part of who you are. And that’s dangerous. And it’s just as dangerous as this virus. #TheDigitalAthlete

10.01.2022 Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson says the sheltered AFL environment means some players are not equipped to deal with the public fallout when they make off-field mistakes. #TheDigitalAthlete

10.01.2022 The report also said Collingwood responds to racism claims through the prism of protecting the club’s brand and reputation, rather than addressing the issues directly and instigating meaningful change. #TheDigitalAthlete

07.01.2022 Perhaps Kuzma is feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the mentions and DM’s on Twitter, that he thought that just shutting it down completely would be the best move right now. #TheDigitalAthlete

05.01.2022 Our founder Carly has experienced something similar to this, although on social media. After attending a Suncorp Super Netball game a couple of years ago, where a young goaler - in her very first season - was not having a great game, and was subsequently subbed out. It was particularly noticeable as the only other player who played the same position was unavailable due to injury so a wing attack was placed there instead. On the train on the way home from the game, Carly read... some commentary on social media about the young player’s performance that absolutely astounded her - and from older women, in positions of power, no less. They said she was hopeless, that she should never have been given a contract, and that as paying members of the club, they deserved a better player. Carly - who wouldn’t normally engage in this kind of conversation on social media - posted something around having some compassion for the 21-year-old kid who was finding her feet in her first season, and to think about the fact that no one would be more flat about their performance than her, and without then having to read their comments. One of the women replied, she’s 21; she’s not a kid. Please be kind, be empathetic and consider athlete mental health, in person and when engaging online. #TheDigitalAthlete

02.01.2022 BRAIN FADES Cardale Jones tweeted this while enrolled at Ohio State, and before he had ever played a game. It landed him in hot water but he eventually became a star at Ohio State, leading them to the national championship after the 2014 season.... He was viewed as a potential first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, but he chose to stay in school and he considers his decision a great one, even if it cost him millions of dollars. #TheDigitalAthlete
