24.01.2022 The worst fin plug installation I've (Rob) seen. FCS1 put into polystyrene with just resin. No glass over the top. Nothing. P.S. the fusions are cracked too. I'm speechless really.

24.01.2022 How's this for an overseas leg rope plug installation?! #quality

24.01.2022 So what seems to be the problem?

21.01.2022 See this pin hole? This is all it takes for your eps core board to suck water in. When your board heats up in the car or board bag the air inside the core (the space between the Polystyrene beads) expands. Then when you hit the cold water, it creates a vacuum inside the board which sucks the water into the core. Having water inside the core leads to loss of liveliness, delamination, weight gain, rotten soggy stringers and general deterioration of the board.

19.01.2022 Repairing someone else's failed repair: The original crack in the high density skin would have occurred due to repeated compression from a heel or knee or similar. Someone has tried to fix it using either a knead it style epoxy bog or a car bog and a light glass job and a less than average paint job over the top. After grinding away the old bog to reveal the original damage, we found the core was slightly melted by whatever bog was used. It may have exothermed and melted the ...EPS below or may not have been compatible with EPS and melted on contact through the crack. This is why the repair has failed again, no support covering an over compressed core. I cut away the compressed core and replaced with a high density block of the same material as the original skin. Sanded back the shape (theres no dent present either now) and 2 inches around the block, glassed over with several layers, faired the glass in, filler coated, final sand then colour matched and wet rubbed to finish. 17.01.2022 I think there might be some water in my board

17.01.2022 Just the other day, Leighton and I were talking about how important it is to correctly install leg rope plugs in our own custom surfboards. If it potentially failed we could be leaving someone in a critical situation possibly having to swim to safety. We see this kind of stuff (below) all too often in boards made offshore. But hey, at least the bottom of the insert has some glue on it.

14.01.2022 Stuck for ideas for Xmas presents? Come into the Ding King and get a gift voucher or browse the surf hardware in the shop. Fins, leggies, traction, wax, covers and new and second hand boards.

13.01.2022 This EPS core board has been drying out for two weeks now!

13.01.2022 Ahhhh I love cleaning up a finished repair then see this!!!

12.01.2022 Another quality surfboard warehouse product. How's the stringer glue-up?! and where is the resin that is supposed to hold the foam insert? Also, the plugs would have been stronger installed into the stringer itself not some low grade PU foam insert. It's like florist's foam, crumbly and soft, hardly high density!! Be aware of what you buy!

10.01.2022 Not too much surprises us these days. Another terrible fin installation in a board someone has paid top dollar for. Look at how little resin is on the base of the plug. Sweet FA! Those little resin wells should be full. The base of the box doesn't even have resin painted on it!!! Beware of what you spend your money on peeps. There was a soft spot on the deck from repeated compression (eps core) which lead the foam surrounding the box to deteriorate. The box could move in and out and side to side with a fin in it. I came in through the deck to assess it removing the compromised foam and found yet another poorly installed fin box.

08.01.2022 Mick working on Finn's school project board. A copy of his dad's Hot Buttered single fin. Here Mick is laminating the bottom of the shaped blank with a turquoise resin tint.

07.01.2022 Chinese quality control, passed QC by the nice shiny sticker bit the front plug has the screw on the wrong side!!! ( it’s the rear Center fin) Actually came in for a front plug depressed into the foam because of incorrect installation too!!! Stop buying this shit!!! Surfboard warehouse vessel dark horse.

03.01.2022 EPS under white still melts and delaminates when it gets hot! Just a remimder to keep your epoxy EPS boards cool.
