25.01.2022 What is good #governance in the #thirdsector? We've created a summary of the profile of boards in Australia and the UK, with 10 tips for better governance for your #charity or #socent
25.01.2022 Great to be published in Pro Bono Australia this week, talking about how we can combine profit and people in a way that benefits the people who make the profit.
23.01.2022 Thinking about pivoting your #socialenterprise business model in the Covid-19 recovery phase? Part two of our three part guide on social enterprise business models is out now. This one explores the 16 social enterprise business model types. http://ow.ly/NxRw50zBNiM
23.01.2022 The most complex challenges of our time demand collaboration. No one organisation or sector or industry can solve them alone. Tackling poverty or climate change isn't about a new social innovation. It's about better systems to link up all the work already happening. Collective impact is a framework for cross-sector collaboration. And it works. The proof is in Canada's collective impact work that's seen poverty reduce dramatically. We need more of it.
23.01.2022 A big congrats to the fabulous Green Collect team, who just won the Social Traders Australia Social Enterprise of the Year! Was a pleasure to work with you all those years ago and see how far you've come!
23.01.2022 Here’s part two of our series on social enterprise business models. This one covers the 16 social enterprise model types.
21.01.2022 We're starting 2020 with five solutions for everyone working to build a fairer and more just world. 1. Be resilient. 2. Collaborate for collective impact. 3. Lead, wherever you find yourself. ... 4. Be active in the social economy. 5. Focus. On strategy, business models, impact and governance. 2020 might have challenges in store, but together, we got this. There is hope everywhere.
20.01.2022 Great example of an inclusive model that foregrounds people and produces a profit.
19.01.2022 In a messy world, there is not much popular sense about that thing called the ‘economy’. Some never consider it, some are happy to let the ‘free market’ do its thing, and others are well aware that our current economic system is broken. But there is an alternative the social economy. And we’ve all got a role to play in helping it grow.
19.01.2022 A brilliant two weeks in Cuba, with the Cass Business School MBA. What these photos don’t show is a functioning socialist economy. A country that, despite the crippling US blockade, has built a system that gives its people free health care, free education to PhD level, housing, subsidised food, subsidised transport, subsidised electricity. They have created equality in basic human needs. As Cuba starts to introduce market mechanisms, it will be one to watch as an example of a new form of ‘democratic market socialism’. A message to other ‘developed’ countries that there’s a different way to build an economy that puts people (not profit) first.
19.01.2022 Part two of our series on social enterprise business models is out now, based on our research in the UK. Part two includes the 16 social enterprise model types to spark ideas about how to refresh or start-up your own social enterprise.
15.01.2022 Part three of our NEW toolkit on #socialenterprise business models is out now. This one covers the seven steps for every #socent leader. - What social impact do you create for which beneficiaries? - Who are your customers, what do they want, and how do you structure the value proposition? - What products and services can you offer that achieve the best balance of profit and social impact?... - What are your business model options, and how many should you run? - How do you finance the model? - How do you organise your resources to deliver profit and social impact? - Is your product and services portfolio balanced? Check it out here: http://dragonflycollective.com.au/social-enterprise-busine/
12.01.2022 Despite lots of activity by lots of charities, poverty in the UK is not going away. Meanwhile, Canada is winning the war on poverty. Not through a fragmented competitive strategy, but with a multisector comprehensive approach called #collectiveimpact. Find out how they're making it happen: http://ow.ly/mzZa50wRdJx
11.01.2022 After the shakeup of Covid-19, many of us will be in crisis and survival mode. But now is also the time to be thinking about the future and recovery phase. There will be new market opportunities as services and products are reimagined, new needs from our communities, and a more open space for business models with purpose as we question an economic system that valued GDP above all else. The post-Covid world may offer new opportunities to push social enterprise as a force for g...ood. But getting the business model right will be crucial. We've created a new social enterprise business model toolkit to help. It's based on a year of research in the UK, including a review of 92 international journal articles and interviews with leaders of social enterprise peak bodies in the UK that support over ten thousand social enterprises. Part one explores the what and why of social enterprise business models, and the trade-offs to be managed.
10.01.2022 We are all human in the face of Coronavirus. Could we use this feeling of vulnerability to grow our empathy? Could we emerge on the other side of the pandemic with a commitment to build a more just and equal economy? The thing about something like poverty or inequality, is that it’s not contagious. So it can be ignored as something that happens to other people, in other places. On the other hand, Coronavirus could impact any of us. Rich or poor. Young or old. Black, white or ...something in between. Coronavirus has equalised us. We are all human in the face of Coronavirus. That vulnerability offers the opportunity to grow our empathy. Our society and economy has been upended. Let's not let this crisis go to waste. Let's take this moment to rediscover our shared humanity and use it to build a fairer economy on the other side of the pandemic. #poverty #economy #inequality #Coronavirus #SocEnt
09.01.2022 The post #Covid world may offer new opportunities to push business as a force for good. But getting the business model right will be crucial. We've written a three-part series that explores the what and how of #socialenterprise business models, based on our research in the UK last year. Part one outlines to key components of a social enterprise business model and picks apart the trade-offs you'll need to manage when it comes to governance, operations, management, stakeholder management or strategic decision making.
07.01.2022 The most entrenched social challenges of our times will only be solved when people and organisations work together. #CollectiveImpact offers one approach with potential. See our latest article in Pro Bono Australia based on our research in London bit.ly/2km0Fjr
03.01.2022 The biggest challenges of our times need #collaboration. #Collectiveimpact offers a structure. But what makes it work and what gets in the way? Our research in London, published in Pro Bono Australia shows there are 9 enablers http://ow.ly/A7mW50wlURA
01.01.2022 Great to be representing SEIDs Social Innovation and Enterprise Hub in Brussels at the Caritas Europa consultation on ‘innovative and strategic partnerships towards job creation’ hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee, and to be part of an international collaboration focused on social and economic integration of migrant women. Great to see an outcomes focus and the combination of practice first and theory second to provide local solutions to a global challenge. hashtag#socialeconomy hashtag#socialbusiness
