25.01.2022 As part of the response and study of the impact of COVID-19, the Drum Theatre joined a three-round national research project covering all artforms, organisation types and sizes. Two rounds of the survey have sent to our audience members, and we thank those who participated in the survey. Here are some of the findings to share with you.

21.01.2022 The Drum Theatre was recently lit up in the colours of the Mauritian flag from 14 to 20 September at the request of The Cultural Historical Association of Rodriguans and Mauritians in Victoria who shared this drive-through video with us. The building illumination was to mark the ecological disaster from the grounding of MV Wakashio on 25 July on the reef of Pointe D’Esny on the East coast of Mauritius. 18.01.2022 The Drum Theatre will be lit in the colours of the Mauritian flag (red, blue, yellow and green) from 14 to 20 September to mark the ecological disaster from the grounding of MV Wakashio on 25 July on the reef of Pointe DEsny on the East coast of Mauritius. This led to a disastrous oil spill (at least 1,000 tonnes of oil and diesel) into one of the islands most protected areas containing endangered species known only to that area. Images and information of the news event show the extent of the disaster and the local efforts. 07.01.2022 Last night the Drum Theatre was lit up in the colours of the Lebanese flag. This was a gesture of solidarity with the people of Lebanon and their loved ones her...e in Greater Dandenong and all over the world following last weeks deadly blast in Beirut. More than 200 people lost their lives and thousands were injured. More than 300,000 were left homeless. The Drum will continue to be lit up for the next week. While everyone is at home at the moment due to the Stage 4 curfew, Council wanted to make this small gesture to show love and support for our Lebanese community in their grief.

06.01.2022 Critical Stages, who tour great shows to the Drum Theatre, are presenting new plays about Australian stories online following a national writing and performance initiative. Sixteen new plays about towns from around Australia will be presented online from 19 August . Come to Where I Am Australia has been supported by a COVID-19 support grant from the Australia Council to enable Critical Stages to support seventeen writers from around the country, including Samah Sabawi and Ross Mueller from Victoria. The Federal Government has asked the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts to report on Australia’s creative and cultural industries and institutions, but most specifically, to hear evidence on the benefits the arts bring to Australia, and the significant impacts that COVID-19 has had on this industry. No matter your age, cultural background or whether you work in the arts or experience it as a participant or audience, your opinion is important.
