25.01.2022 If you have finished your Award or are too old to start dont fret, there are still so many ways for you to be part of the Award Community and one of them is to be an Award Leader. https://dukeofed.com.au/delivering-the-award/award-leaders/
25.01.2022 You might know that all Award Participants volunteer for their Award but did you know that over 275,000 hours of volunteering were devoted by Australian Award Participants. https://dukeofed.com.au/about-the-award/statistics/
25.01.2022 Josh's mission: to collect 50,000 brand new pairs of socks for the homeless. By doing this he will be able to give 2 pairs of socks to every homeless person in his home state of Victoria. In order to achieve his goal, Bronze Award Participant Josh created 2 Pairs Each a charity to help him broaden his reach and be able to collect more and more socks for those in need. Why is he doing this?... Josh decided to do some research on the internet to find what the biggest need of homeless people was. He was shocked because he thought their biggest need would be a house. It was not. It was being safe. The second biggest need was being warm: they found it hard keeping their feet warm. As of his last update (12/8/20) The current number of brand new socks handed out to those in need has reached: 29,524 pairs! Read the rest of his story here: https://dukeofed.com.au/story/2-pairs-each/ Follow his page here: 2 Pairs Each To help or donate click here: https://2pairseach.com.au/how-to-help/ Australian Air Force Cadets Duke of Ed Victoria
25.01.2022 "The best part about conducting the award at home is to have the opportunity to explore the new ways to conduct these activities in an online environment rather... than a face to face interaction" Congratulations to Bob Qian from Australian Army Cadets who is persevering and working towards his Gold Award Journey during Covid-19 and becoming #worldready and #readyforournewworld
25.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 12 student, Lauren Ivory, who has just completed her Gold Award!
25.01.2022 Hear from Lara from Kardinia International College about her experience of being a YAL (Young Award Leader Program run in Victoria). YALs are passionate and motivated role models who positively contribute to the success of the Duke of Ed Program within their school or organization. The hours they spend assisting their Award Leader or strengthening the Award at their school/organisation counts towards their Voluntary Service activity or their Skills activity.
25.01.2022 "The hardest part about completing my Award from home is that I am unable to complete my Adventurous Journey and Residential Project, however it has given me an awesome opportunity to plan a great journey for when restrictions are lifted." Although Joey Scout Leader Hannah is in Victoria and can only plan her AJ at the moment she is not letting it get her down but is using the Award as a way to keep focused and stay motivated. https://dukeofed.com.au//hannahs-award-story-ach...ieving-go/ Duke of Ed Victoria
24.01.2022 Congratulations to our PCYC Gold Coast members who have achieved their respective Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award recently: Silver Felicity L Bronze... Zoe K, Saskia U They all have been very focused on their Awards and have impressed by how efficiently they did their plans, volunteer sourcing and record book entries, as well as their high standard of effort in their activities. Their adaptability and willingness to fit in new activities due to the social restrictions were also key factors in attaining their Award.
23.01.2022 The #COVID19 pandemic has taken a heavy toll on mental health and shown that more than ever, we need to look after ourselves and each other. Today is #WorldMent...alHealthDay and this year's theme is #MoveForMentalHealth. During lockdown in Australia, Olivia practised boxing from her home, which she says helped to keep her mind and body healthy. "Even though we all are going through a tough time right now I have found the Award as a way to distract me from it. Being able to do an activity that you enjoy can really take your mind off of things that may be stressing you out and keeps you busy." Olivia’s boxing is a positive reminder to us all to get moving and stay mentally healthy. What positive change can you make on #WorldMentalHealthDay?

22.01.2022 PART 2 Silver AJ - 14-16 August Mt Barney National Park Felicity, Tvisha, Ryan, Andy, Cassie, Joshua, Nia, Blake, Lily and Sophie worked very well together i...n completing one of their silver AJs in mid-August. They had the challenges of managing through a very wet first night and second morning that caused a change of route plan for the second day. Much was learnt about packing and hiking in wet weather, but the option provided new highlights, including spectacular views. Rock-hopping on the final day and the friendship of the group were more major highlights. Thanks to Ray for volunteering as a supervisor. Four of this group should achieve their silver Award very soon, with another four doing so towards the end of the year. See more

20.01.2022 "I was very exited to complete my Silver Award hike with my friends until I got very sick and had to miss out on my hike with them. Later I had to re-schedule and do it without anyone that I knew. Not only did my hike then get postponed through fires and floods but also COVID happened. Finally after months of was able to complete my silver. I was very nervous when I found out I had to do it alone but now I have come to the conclusion that I was able to meet lots of great peo...ple and have heaps of fun." -Maxine R What a great perspective by Maxine from YouthAdvance Australia! @YouthAdvanceAustralia

14.01.2022 After witnessing the devastating impact of the bushfires, Cate decided that for her Voluntary Service she would try and raise money two charities that were close to her heart: WIRES and WWS Foundation. She was initially going to do a bake sale by making treats on Sunday and then selling them on Monday at school however due to COVID-19 her idea of Monday Munchies was cut short. She quickly recovered though by coming up with the idea of making hair scrunchies and selling them i...nstead. Cate makes the scrunchies during the week and then sells them on Friday at school. She even has an online order form where students and teachers can pick a fabric and a design to order a custom one. Her Award Leader Emily has been a big support saying that they are great quality and posting about it on the schools digital noticeboard. So far she has raised over $360 for her charities. https://dukeofed.com.au/story/cates-award-story/
14.01.2022 "Hi, I'm William, a participant of Duke of Ed. This program has taught me lots of different skills and one of them being how to care. We have been served different challenges during these times due to COVID. To help with staying healthy and safe, I have helped make masks alongside my grandpa for our teachers whom the students depend on their learning. The masks are made of fabric, allowing them to be washed and reusable, in turn, reduce disposable masks which is supportive o...f the environment. It is important to take care of each other as a community." Story by Gold Award Participants William Kellyville High School - Official
