21.01.2022 Catching Up with The Dulwich Hill Chicken Shop's JIm Chronis and the Oasis Man In his recent interview with Jim Chronis of The Dulwich Hill Chicken Shop, Vasili...s had a hilarious moment when Jim and he posed for a photo with cult hero...the Oasis Man... The Oasis Man was part of a promotion for Oasis drinks in the early 1990s. The Chronis family kept the Oasis Man in their shop for decades... when they renovated their shop so many locals asked to have the Oasis Man... he remained in the family... Jim admits the Oasis Man had developed a cult following over the decades :) :) :) :) :) The Dulwich Hill Chicken Shop was opened in 1987; the following year, the Chronis family bought it and have been running it ever since... In the mid- 1980s, charcoal chicken shops were the new fad and these eateries were popping up in so many suburbs... so, after running fish and chips shops for years, Yianni and Dafni bought this charcoal chicken shop... I remember my brother would drive from Earlwood to buy charcoal chicken from the Chronis family in the early 1990s because the chickens were much larger and Jim reassured me his late father, Yianni, believed the size 15 chickens were too small for customers and opted for larger-sized chickens...talk about providing customers value for money... This is now a second generation busy shop with Jim and his wife, Rose Marie, running the shop... and Dafni still goes and helps out at the shop and enjoys catching up with locals...
