09.01.2022 Book Week was a little late this year, but certainly didn't disappoint! A week full of magical moments and laughing faces. Our book parades looked a little different with our families watching through a screen from home and work, it was wonderful seeing so many faces on our Zoom calls. 05.01.2022 Today we are supporting Jersey Day raising awareness for organ and tissue donation. Currently in Australia there are approximately 1700 people waiting on the register for a life saving organ donation. Head over to DonateLife for info on how to register - it's super easy and will take you 2mins to do! Here are some facts...... Around 1,700 Australians are currently waitlisted for a transplant. A further 12,000 are on dialysis, many of whom would benefit from a kidney transplant. In 2019, 1,683 lives were transformed by 548 deceased and 239 living organ donors and their families. In 2019, more than 12,000 Australians benefited from eye and tissue donation. The majority of Australians are willing to donate their organs and/or tissue when they die. In Australia, 90% of families say yes to donation when their loved one is a registered donor. This compares to the national consent rate of 62%. If our national consent rate reaches 70%, Australia would be in the top 10 performing countries. One in three Australians are registered donors despite the majority (69%) believing that registering is important. Mental health certainly isn't discussed enough, yet in 2019 one in five Australian' s experienced a mental or behavioural condition, that's nearly four million people! 04.01.2022 Reflecting on 2020... the year certainly was a challenge and we all learned to become more adaptable and innovative in our practices. In 12 months we have experienced catastrophic fires, damaging floods, and a pandemic that has changed the world we once knew. A year where sanitisation, restrictions, and running out of essentials became normal! We went through restrictions, some through isolation and at points didn't think that we would get through it all. We became excited f...or the little things life offered us, to taking the bins out, cooking and coming to work as an essential worker to see our friends big and small who all became closer than ever. Although the world was changing we at The Early Learning Hub were lucky enough to spend the quality time with our friends. We all formed stronger connections and supported each other through the roller-coaster ride. We loved supporting our families where we could, we implemented COVID safe plans in early in February and connected with our families in different ways. We connected virtually, using Zoom was a great tool to connect through song and creative arts with our children staying home and with our friends at Carrington. We delivered over 50 learning packages to our families to keep our children's minds active at home. We and many others struggled to get the essentials such as toilet paper, nappies and pasta; like always the support and generosity of our families and the community left us humbled. Later on in the year we were surprised to be recognised as the Most Outstanding Early Chilhood Centre at the Camden Local Business Awards! One of our many fabulous educators Kirsten was recognised as a finalist in the Youth of the Year category! In 2020 together we adapted, and learned a new way of life, we supported each other and loved a little more. We were the lucky ones, we're healthy, happy and have the most amazing staff, children and families. Without our amazing staff who love our children as their own, and our beautiful and supportive families and children we wouldn't have overcome the challenges of 2020. Thank you to our staff and families we can't wait to overcome 2021 with you! #seeya2020
