25.01.2022 It's midday so let's tackle this little food for thought. Did you know that reading a book for 15 minutes each day can actually improve your punctuation, vocabulary, and grammar skills? It's true! Whip those books out and get reading I say!

24.01.2022 Here are some photos from my recent holiday in Bali and the national editing conference in Melbourne. My friend Allison and I enjoyed going to the Green Village, which is all made of bamboo, an elephant sanctuary, enjoyed a bit of pampering and had dinner on the beach. The last two photos are from Melbourne. One is a selection of the editors from Qld who attended the conference and the other is my friend Romie and I preparing for our gala dinner, which had a 1920s theme.

24.01.2022 I love consistency. Style guides ensure consistency in terminology, formatting, punctuation etc. I include a style guide with every manuscript I edit. CONSISTENCY IS KING

24.01.2022 When writing stories, a network of brain regions work together to create fiction, but this activity changes between novice writers and those who have spent a long time writing.

24.01.2022 Very proud of 16yo Georgia Wright for publishing her first book Love Hurts, and knowing that I edited it

24.01.2022 Join me this Thursday for a short 30-minute PowerPoint on how I became an editor, with time for questions after.

23.01.2022 One of the most common mistakes I find in editing is around the words two, to, and too. Let's unpack each of them now! Two - Represents a numerical value To - Represents a direction "towards" OR in reference of time "until" Too - Used with verbs to normally mean "as well as" or "in excess"... Knowing the difference can really make a huge impact with your professional documents.

15.01.2022 "Reading gives us the insight to view differing perspectives and travel to worlds we will never reach" ~ Unknown This quote is very true and one of the reasons why I love to read!

13.01.2022 "I'm running out of time!" "I don't know how to edit this" "I'm reading over this and I don't even know if there are any mistakes!" Any of these sound like you? Perhaps you need to look into bringing on an editing service to help lighten the load and lessen the stress.

13.01.2022 I just can't help it! When I hear a great orator and intellectual like David Marr, I am compelled to buy their book. Tonight I had a date night by myself and went to see David Malouf and David Marr at the Powerhouse. I couldn't resist Marr's thick book, but who knows when I'm going to read it. Do you also have a growing pile of books to read?

12.01.2022 There, their, or theyre? Which one is correct? This problem above is one of the most common errors I have seen over time so lets look at them now. There - Refers to a place or destination. Most commonly used in sentences like "Over there".... Their - Used to show possession or ownership over something. Often used in referring to things. "The beagle is their dog" Theyre - Is a contraction used in the place of the words "they" and "are". Can be used to sound more concise in sentences."Theyre always running late". Knowing the difference can really help when it comes to creating your documents and asserting your professionalism.

12.01.2022 Reading has many different benefits other than helping improve our language skills. Check out these six scientific reasons why you should be reading more. I read, do you? http://mentalfloss.com//scientific-reasons-you-should-read

11.01.2022 Time to ask the age old question - Fact or Fiction? When reading, do you turn to the Fiction or the Non-Fiction more?

11.01.2022 Merry festive season to everyone

10.01.2022 One thing that always warms me, is the feedback I receive for working with businesses. Here is one that still moves me. "Jeni is an outstanding editor who has a keen eye for catching small, but important edits to help your writing stand out. I was impressed by the level of research that Jeni did, even catching important edits after my copy had been edited by another editor."...
