25.01.2022 Today’s Day 5 'Walk for the Elephants' was fabulously full of negative ions from the crashing waves at Crescent Head!! We took a quick run out to the beach to see the big swells that were supposed to be running up to 3.5 metres. I’ve walked a massive (for me) 2.7 kms, bringing the total so far to 9.15 kms, so not much left to complete tomorrow on World Elephant Day. So far I have pledges for $425.00 and it's not too late to join in the fun...just send me a message.

24.01.2022 WINNERS ARE GRINNERS!!! Congratulations to the Elephant Valley Project. "BANGKOK, 27 August 2020: Six tourism enterprises in the Mekong Region were named winners at the 3rd Experience Mekong Awards presented digitally at Tuesday’s Destination Mekong Summit. Nominations came from a pool of 350 tourism SMEs that are part of the Experience Mekong Collection covering the six Mekong countries Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam."

18.01.2022 OK, well if they can do it, I can do it ... maybe. Gulp!!! The Elephant Valley Project team are setting themselves a huge challenge for World Elephant day on August 12. They're asking for sponsorship, aiming to walk as far as they can in a 24 hour period. If you can sponsor them and watch the antics on Facebook on the day, that would be great. BUT ... you could also sponsor me and I'll donate any dollars I get to EVP!!! As we've had no markets since the beginning of the p...andemic, there is no money left in the business to donate, so I'm setting myself a walking challenge. Eeeeek!!!! Since I hardly walk anywhere and my back is going to give out quick smart, I'm starting small today and will build up daily, so that I can finish my little trek by Wednesday. I'll be damn proud of myself if I can manage 10 kms over six days ... that's the distance Ning Wan travelled. If you think that's a bit ridiculous, I can honestly say that the last time my walking shoes saw the light of day was actually in Mondulkiri, when I was walking WITH elephants, now they'll be supporting an elephant walking!!! They've been in the cupboard so long that mud wasps have made them home!!! If you want to sponsor me, just send a message to the page, so I can reply with the bank account details. Thanks and wish me luck!!!

14.01.2022 Well, the Elephant Valley Project team and friends had a typical Cambodian electricity problem to begin with, but once they got underway, they surpassed my little 10 km over 6 days effort .... in the first hour!!! Oh to be young and fit again. They've been hard at it for about 4 hours now and have got a heap of videos up on their page with all the different walkers and runners. It looks like a lot of fun is being had by all.

14.01.2022 DaDah .... drum roll please!!! 'Walking for the Elephants' challenge of 10 km done and dusted and with a last pledge this morning, we will have $455.00 to donate to the Elephant Valley Project. I want to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to those wonderful people who sponsored me in my little walking challenge. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!! I had planned to spend today out at South West Rocks, with my last km walked on the beach and then celebrate WORLD ELEPHANT DAY drinking coffee and e...ating cake while looking out for our 'sea elephants', but mother nature had other plans. It is very overcast and threatening rain, so I've done a walk close to home. Cambodia will be up and at it soon (being 3 hrs behind Australia) so I might just put my tired legs up and watch the antics on their live streams throughout their 24 hour walking challenge. Best of luck EVP team and hope you raise lots of dollars for those big beauties.

11.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap!!! Champions one and all. Beautiful footage in this video of elephants simply being elephants in the lush forest at the Elephant Valley Project.

10.01.2022 Day 4 of my ‘Walking for the Elephants’ challenge to raise money for the Elephant Valley Project and another 2.1 kms done and dusted. Only 2 days left til World Elephant Day, so anyone still wishing to sponsor me on this journey, please message me.

07.01.2022 Tomorrow is World Elephant Day and I’ve almost completed my 10km walking challenge, with a bit more today and a grand finale at South West Rocks tomorrow. Videos will be posted here on the page of today's walk and tomorrow's celebration. So far I have pledges for $425!!! It’s not too late to join these generous supporters ... just message me how much you’d like to donate to keep those elephants going through this Covid-19 crisis, while EVP is suffering a lack of visitors, who... provide their main source of income. Please help out if you can. Any donation, no matter how large or small, will be a blessing. The Elephant Valley Project team, and friends, will be ‘Walking for the Elephants’ for 24 hours. Here is the event link, so jump on tomorrow and watch some of the live streams. I’m sure they’ll be funny and you can look back at the stories of the elephants in their care!!!

06.01.2022 Life has certainly been quieter since Covid-19 arrived, but we've kept busy at home, stepping up the vege gardens, fruit trees and even bought some baby chickens, to keep our grandson entertained when he was here for a couple of months. Old Ellie is always on her toes being the chicken guard dog and secretly thinking winner, winner, chicken dinner. Well they're big girls now and paying us back with lots of lovely eggs, which were all odd sizes at first. There’s no better way to collect them than with one of our gorgeous Fair Trade baby Bolga baskets from Ghana in West Africa, which are just $22.00.

05.01.2022 Day 2 of me ‘Walking for the Elephants’ and I’ve added another 1.5 kms to yesterday’s pretty poor 0.75 kms. Yesterday’s post explains more about this World Elephant Day challenge that I’m doing to raise money for the Elephant Valley Project. If you’d like to join some of the generous sponsors who’ve contacted me so far, just send a message!

05.01.2022 Just back from doing the weekly grocery shop and once again both the check out lady and another customer were oohing and aaahing over my fantastic shopping bags, asking where I got them or did I make them. I explained that they are Fair Trade from Bangladesh and that I import and sell them. Now this time ... I'm going to put a few of them in my car so next time someone asks I will have them right there ready for them. :)

04.01.2022 After her debut in public speaking on a huge stage in Canada a couple of years ago, Jemma is again going to be entertaining and opening minds to the wonders that are elephants, at two events in Cambodia next month. Go girl!

02.01.2022 While we wait to see how the Covid-19 community transfer proceeds over the next month or so before we will start markets again, don't forget you can buy Gift Vouchers if you are starting your Christmas shopping.

02.01.2022 In case you missed it, here is the direct link to the podcast on Species Unite, with Jemma being interviewed about her background, her work at the Elephant Valley Project and the terrible impact of Covid-19 on elephants across Asia. Do yourself a favour...make a cuppa, put your feet up and listen to this. She's a great story teller. https://www.speciesunite.com/jemma-bullock

02.01.2022 Day 3 of my ‘Walking for the Elephants’ and I’m off for a stroll along the beautiful Macleay River. Send me a message if you’d like to sponsor me in my effort to raise some money for the Elephant Valley Project.

01.01.2022 We have some very EXCITING news!!!! The Elephant Valley Project has made it to the finals of the 'Experience Mekong Showcases 2020'. Now they need us to all VOTE AGAIN so they can be showcased for Cambodia. So please vote and share this post with your friends. It takes like two seconds!!! Jump on the page, tick Elephant Valley Project, scroll to the bottom to complete your name and email address and submit your vote. Thanks so much!!!

01.01.2022 We have to hold on and have faith that this pandemic will end one day, and for now, help out wherever we can. In preparation for that day, Tourism Cambodia is busy filming exciting videos to promote the country abroad, from Kep to Mondulkiri with a couple of stops in between, including the EVP, and with help from a few famous faces. They were super excited to host the beautiful Cambodian actress Ma Rynet and crew, who stopped by to experience their premiere elephant sanctuary... and learn more about what it takes to rescue and retire these magnificent animals. Sambo and Ruby definitely enjoyed the spotlight! The Elephant Valley Project is really struggling at the moment with their major source of income from tourism almost non-existent. If you can help them survive this pandemic with a spare dollar or two, please donate on their website at www.elephantvalleyproject.org
