25.01.2022 YEAH NAH: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13 We tried earlier in the year before Covid-19 became the ultimate killjoy, but we're happy to announce that popular Macedon Ranges covers band, Yeah Nah, will finally take to the stage at the Elpho on Saturday, February 13. We'll have full details soon, including show times.... Thanks a lot, Mark and Mel

25.01.2022 FOOTY TIP REMINDER Hi all, We may be closed during stage three Covid-19 restrictions, but footy tipping still continues!... On that note, a reminder that round 11 starts tomorrow at 4:35pm, so I'll require your tips before the first bounce of the ball in the match between Richmond and Port Adelaide. Who would have thought: a new round starting on a Saturday! Nothing is orthodox at the moment... All tips to [email protected]. Thanks a lot, Mark

25.01.2022 FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR LOCAL: WE HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN YOU! ...AND COME FOR DINNER TONIGHT FOR A TASTE OF THAILAND Hi all,... Earlier this year the Elpho joined CUB's excellent ‘For the love of your local’ campaign, which aimed to support pubs and clubs doing it tough in these extremely challenging times. The basis of the campaign is that once a beer voucher was purchased, CUB then matched it one for one. So that means when you visit the Elpho, you redeem the voucher for two pints of Carlton Draught! Thank you to all the people who joined the campaign and, for those who haven't reached us yet (a fair chunk of them stuck in Melbourne...), we haven't forgotten you. We've got our redemption QR code sitting here all ready to be scanned. And we can't wait for as long as it takes! I'm only 49, so I've got years on my side... Meanwhile, spots are still available for dinner tonight, as we showcase some excellent Thai dishes (see attached Seafood pad Thai). Give us a call on 5473 3165, or email [email protected]. And while you're here, borrow a magazine and/or book from our extensive library, such as this July 1979 copy of Hoofs and Horns. It includes an ad for 'easi-fit' jodhpurs, which retailed from $22.95. Rivetting. All the best, Mark #fortheloveofyourlocal

24.01.2022 VACANCIES FOR DINNER TONIGHT Hi all, We've had a couple of dinner cancellations for tonight, so if you'd like to fill the void give us a call (5473 3165), email ([email protected]) or a shout through our social channels.... Check out the updated menu here: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au//new-menus-starting-se And how's the dinner setting? Unfortunately, it's not the Elpho, but we can always sit you next to the window so you can count the number of V-Line passengers heading north and south. And don't forget our takeaway service. Menu is here: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au/menus Thank you, Mark and Mel

23.01.2022 WE'RE OPENING ON WEDNESDAY: GIVE US A CALL! Hi all, The Elpho will finally reopen on Wednesday, September 23, so if you'd like to make a booking to dine in our restaurant for brunch, lunch and/or dinner please give us a call on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or contact us through our social channels. We'll be back in touch quick smart.... Under step three Covid-19 restrictions, we're only allowed a maximum of 20 people inside at any one time, and that number jumps to 50 outside. We're not taking bookings for outside dining -- just turn up. The maximum time allotment for any booking is two hours. You can check out our all-new brunch and lunch/dinner menus here: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au//new-menus-starting-se Brunch (10:00am-midday) and lunch (midday-2:30pm) will be offered on the weekend. CAN I COME IN FOR A SOCIAL DRINK? Yes you can, and you can sit inside or outside. However, with seats at a premium until COVID-19 restrictions are eased further, priority will be given to customers who are enjoying a meal -- especially inside. CAN I ALSO BUY TAKEAWAY FOOD AND DRINK? Yes you can, and here's our new takeaway menu: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au/menus. Takeaway meals will be available from Wednesday until Friday from 5:30-7:00pm (order at www.elphinstonehotel.com.au/online-ordering), and takeaway drinks during all business hours. We look forward to seeing a procession of smiling faces coming through the doors from this Wednesday. And just a reminder that bookings are essential for inside dining. Have a great week, Mark and Mel

20.01.2022 ELPHO CHOPPER SHOW: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27 It's going to be a big month at the Elpho in February, and we're finishing up with a bang by hosting the inaugural Elpho Chopper Show. 20.01.2022 WE'RE CHOCKABLOCK! Hi all, Thank you for the magnificent response: our restaurant is officially booked out tonight ahead of our closure tomorrow as stage three restrictions return to regional Victoria.... You can still pop down to the pub for a drink, but please note that a face mask must be worn to and from the venue, and anytime when you're not sitting. The face mask rule also applies to dining-in customers. Thanks in advance for your support. There will be no takeaway food service today. All the best, Mark and Mel

You can check out our normal menu here: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au//new-menus-starting-se. 18.01.2022 While the boys are in charge of another wonderfully busy Sunday at the pub I went venturing a little way north to the stunning Harcourt Valley Wines. I'm happy to say we will have their very summer inspired 'Honey Badger' mead and 'Ginger Kid',ginger beer for sale this week . If you don't already know , mead is not only the drink of sea-fairing Vikings and mummified royals , it's a popular choice today . There are over 250 meaderies in the USA and many festivals featuring the ancient honey infused beverage . Pop in and try one this week :) Mel and Mark

18.01.2022 ELPHO UPDATE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 Hi all, It’s been a while since we last touched base a month ago, to be precise, when stage three restrictions were reintroduced in regional Victoria.... The anticipation was that we’d be back up and running with a brand new ‘summer’ menu on Wednesday, September 16 the diary is bursting with food and beverage order reminders for this week! -- but yesterday’s release of the government’s regional roadmap has regrettably scuppered those plans. WHEN WILL THE ELPHO REOPEN? We’ll remain closed during the heavily restricted ‘second step’, which commences on September 13 and will remain in place for a minimum of two weeks. One the third step comes into play (so September 28 at the earliest) the roadmap says there will be predominantly outdoor seated service, a group limit of 10 and density limits. We’re awaiting further guidance about what that statement actually means in real terms, such as if there’s an absolute limit on customers and whether it only applies to those dining in or a broader visitor base. The backyard of the Elpho is a tick over 700 square metres, so we shouldn’t have too many problems meeting density limits! However, until we receive the fine print on the third step, we’ll hold back on committing to a reopening date. SUMMER MENU AND BRUNCH We’ve been using our time wisely since lockdown to create a new summer menu, which I’ll upload onto our social channels soon. We’re also introducing a brunch menu, which will be available from 10:00am until midday on Saturday and Sunday. More information will follow on that, but I’m already leaning towards the grilled haloumi, sriracha, spinach and honey toasty stack! I’ll also upload the brunch menu soon. And the menu avalanche will also continue with our regular weekly and themed (Mexican and German the next in line) specials, as well as new buffet-style offerings for outdoor dining. And we can deliver bespoke menus for everything from casual ‘finger food’ to bigger functions. Just ask. IN THE MEANTIME... We’re spending plenty of time at the Elpho chipping away on maintenance, gardening and several beautification projects, so it will be looking schmick when the doors finally reopen. Removing a bad-arse creeper that had run riot through our roof guttering required some patience! We can’t wait to see you soon, and thanks for your patience as we attempt to navigate through these turbulent waters. All the best, Mark and Mel

16.01.2022 ELPHO CLOSING DURING STAGE THREE RESTRICTIONS; WEDNESDAY SIGN-OFF; FOOTY TIPPING TO CONTINUE Hi all, With a heavy heart, we’ve decided to close the Elpho while Victoria is under stage three Covid-19 restrictions. That means no takeaway food and drink service (our only possible avenue to trade under stage three) from Thursday, August 6.... Our final day of ‘normal’ trading for at least six weeks will be this Wednesday, August 5, where we’ll be open for both lunch and dinner. The dinner service is now booked out, but we still have spots available for lunch. Please call 5473 3165 to make a booking. The hotel isn’t staffed today, so if you leave a message we’ll get back to you tomorrow. No takeaway on Wednesday, sorry. We’d like to thank you all for a phenomenal couple of months since we reopened (with a new chef and menu) after the first stage three lockdown. The support has been exceptional, so that’s why we’ll be counting down the days until our ‘open’ sign is buzzing again. During our closure, footy tipping will continue -- but the only way to submit will be via email at [email protected]. If we don’t see you this Wednesday, all the best and we’ll see you in September. Regards, Mel and Ma

13.01.2022 END OF YEAR GROUP FUNCTIONS AND EXTENDED SUMMER TRADING HOURS Hi all, I hope you’ve had a wonderful Tuesday and, for those who enjoy a punt, you picked the Melbourne Cup winner.... With the festive season on the horizon, a reminder that the Elpho will be taking group bookings if you want to party with friends, family and/or work colleagues in a relaxed country pub setting. Obviously, we are still bound by Covid-19 trading restrictions a maximum of 26 inside, 70 outside and maximum table sizes of 10 and can only take bookings based on those parameters, but we are hopeful the shackles will be loosened in the next few weeks especially with the numbers allowed indoors. We’ll certainly keep you posted with developments on that front. For group bookings, we can create a tailored menu or you can just forge ahead and order from our normal dining menu. Keen? Give us a call on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or send us a message through our social channels. THURSDAY LUNCH STARTING NOVEMBER 12 Friday lunch is now humming along nicely, so we are also adding Thursday lunch into the mix until March 2021, starting on November 12. We’ll be offering our full menu, too, with bookings still required if you want to to dine inside. Lunch will be from 11:30am-2:00pm. Here’s some more news coming out of the Elpho bunker: CHRISTMAS SPECIALS Starting soon, we’ll introduce a ‘Christmas Specials Menu’ on selected days, with the following dishes taking centre stage: Prawn Caesar salad; Maple and balsamic glazed salmon; Rosemary- and mint-infused roasted lamb rump; and Chicken breast stuffed with haloumi, spinach and cranberries. Keep an eye out for them! ELPHO RISING SUN ON TAP Starting Thursday, we’re going to give our tap cider a rest for a while and introduce a Japanese lager ‘Elpho Rising Sun’. It will retail for the same price as our other ‘heavy’ beers $5.00 for a pot, $7.00 for a schooner and $9.00 for a pint. We hope you enjoy it. That’s a wrap! Have a great week and see you soon, Mark and Mel

13.01.2022 GOODBYE THAI, WELCOME BACK SPECIALS BOARD Hi all, Thanks for your support of our Thai themed week the response was spectacular, with the seafood pad Thai proving to be the most popular dish by a fair margin.... We’ll be back with a themed menu again next month (we’re working on a cracker), but this week we’re returning to a more orthodox arrangement with our regular specials board. And the specials will be: Reef and beef; Maple mustard pork belly; Crunchy baked chicken tender salad; and Sweet and sour tofu. The quartet will be on sale alongside all our normal menu for all our dining sittings: lunch/brunch from Friday to Sunday and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday. Bookings continue to be essential for inside dining, as we are still restricted by Covid-19 regulations. Call us on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or get in touch via our social channels. TAKEAWAY FROM WEDNESDAY UNTIL FRIDAY Takeaway continues from Wednesday to Friday, starting at 5:30pm. The takeaway menu is here: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au/menus. NEW BEVERAGES: GINGER BEER AND RASPBERRY MEAD The Elpho bar fridge is now bursting at the seams with the addition of two new drinks: Ginger Kid Ginger Beer and Honey Badger Raspberry Mead, both products of the Harcourt Valley Brewing Co. The alcohol volume is 4.5 per cent and they are as refreshing as buggery. And in a couple of weeks, we’ll be introducing a Japanese-inspired lager on tap the ‘Elpho Rising Sun’. We hope to have that one up and running by the Melbourne Cup weekend. Have a great week, and go Cats. Mark and Mel

10.01.2022 TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT: BOOK A TABLE Hi all, Great to see so many familiar faces back at the Elpho yesterday for our reopening.... We still have some spots available for dining tonight until we reach our Covid-19 maximum, so if you'd like to make a booking call us on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or get in touch via our social pages. And takeaway has also returned from Wednesday until Friday, so you can take that route if the couch holds more appeal -- especially over the next few days as the latest cold front shows some real teeth. But when the sun and warm rays do return, you can drink and dine outside! And a reminder that our all-new brunch sitting (10:00am-midday) starts this weekend (Sep 26-27), so you can make a booking(s) for that as well. Thanks a lot, Mark and Mel

10.01.2022 THEME WEEKS ARE BACK! NEXT STOP, THAILAND Hi all, Now that we’re back into the swings of things, it’s time to reintroduce our theme menu weeks. Last time around, Korean fare got a look in before Covid-19 shenanigans scuppered any further plans, but we’ve regrouped and now taking you on a journey to try out the beautiful mouth-watering tastes of Thailand.... It’s one of the most popular cuisines worldwide, and with good reason as the combination of Eastern and Western influences makes for some irresistible dishes. From October 14-18 (Wednesday until Sunday), we’ll be offering the following to our dining-in customers: Thai vegetable red curry; Thai green chicken curry; Thai beef and vegetable stir fry; and Seafood Pad Thai. I’ll take one of each, please! I’d also love to offer a really authentic Thai experience, such as cooking eggs in a hot spring (see attached image), but the Elpho backyard isn’t quite up to working temperature at this stage... If you’d like to join us for the theme week, bookings are essential as we’re still juggling a maximum of 20 patrons inside at any one time. Give us a call on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or contact us through our social channels. Bookings are not required if you want to dine outside, and hopefully conditions will be palatable to soak up the rays. NORMAL MENU ALONGSIDE THAI AND SOME TWEAKS, TOO We’ll also continue with our normal brunch/lunch/dinner menu during the theme week, including all our pub favourites. We’ve tweaked the menus a little bit, too, and you can read and/or download them here: https://rb.gy/qtgte6 BUT THIS WEEK FIRST! We’re getting a little excited, as we’ve still got to get through this week. And don’t forget, we’re now doing lunch and all-day brunch on Friday as well. Hope you have a great week, Mel and Mark

09.01.2022 MAKE MINE THE ELPHO ALMIGHTY, PLEASE Hi all, A reminder that our brunch menu kicks off tomorrow, and I'm starting out in the vuluminous lane with the 'Elpho almighty'.... Brunch will be served from 10:00 until midday on Saturday and Sunday, so if you'd like to make a booking follow the usual routes: call us on 5473 3165, email [email protected] or send us a message through our social channels. Thanks a lot, Mark

09.01.2022 SPECIALS BOARD TAKES A HOME-GROWN ROUTE Hi all, The Elpho will crank back into life on Wednesday, and this week we’re taking advantage of some real home-grown produce to enhance our specials board.... Our two veggie boxes, lovingly prepared and maintained by our award-winning gardener (ie my mum), have been pumping out some superb produce in the last few weeks including whopping zucchinis that could also moonlight as prehistoric clubs. The home-grown cultivation was our cue to add a zucchini carbonara to this week’s specials board, and that dish will be joined by the following: Aussie surf and turf; Lamb korma curry; Red hot prawn parma; and Hawaiian parma. There’s our regular menu as well, with all the pub favourites, seafood, starters galore, rice and pasta, summer salads and vegan/vegetarian options. For bookings, tel 5473 3165, email [email protected] or contact us through our social channels. Thanks a lot and have a great week, Mark and Mel

07.01.2022 WE'RE READY TO ROCK AND ROLL Hi all, Look beyond the plump head and you'll see the pork belly special coming together beautifully for its maiden performance tonight. To be precise, maple mustard pork belly.... And while you're here, you can enjoy one of our new alcoholic ginger beers. Our chef has already put his hand up for the ginger beer once he signs off tonight... We can now sit 26 diners inside following Dan baby's announcement last Sunday, so we have plenty of spots left for tonight. The other specials this week are reef and beef, crunchy baked chicken tender salad and, for the vegans, sweet and sour tofu. Give us a call on 5473 3165 to make a booking. And don't forget our takeaway: https://www.elphinstonehotel.com.au/menus Mark and Mel

06.01.2022 PARMA SPECIALS BACK IN TOWN! Hi all, The Elpho doors open again tomorrow, with our parma specials back on the menu for a couple of weeks.... That means, as well as the traditional parma, we’ll be offering the following for dining in customers: Texas BBQ meat lovers: house-made barbecue sauce, ham, chorizo, bolognese, jalapenos and cheese; Stockman’s: tomato, marinated beef, bacon, mushrooms and cheese; Pesto delight tomato pesto, ham, bocconcini and cheese; Tex-Mex Salsa: a sprinkle of chilli flakes, red kidney beans, chorizo, cheese and guacamole; Red hot prawn Salsa: sambal oelek, prawns and cheese; and Aussie: house-made barbecue sauce, caramelised onions, bacon, egg and cheese. REEF AND BEEF AND MAPLE MUSTARD PORK BELLY REMAIN As well as the potent parma line-up, two of last week’s specials will also remain on the menu: reef and beef and the very popular maple mustard pork belly. As always, bookings are required for inside dining by calling us on 5473 3165, emailing [email protected] or sending a message through our social channels. Takeaway also continues from Wednesday until Friday, from 5:30pm until 7:00pm. ELPHO RISING SUN ON THE WAY Next week we’ll be introducing our new ‘Elpho Rising Sun’ Japanese lager. It will be available on tap. PLAN YOUR FUNCTION AT THE ELPHO As Covid-19 restrictions continue to be eased, if you’re looking to hold a function at the Elpho especially outside as the warmer months approach then give us a call. We can create bespoke menus, from light finger food to buffet-style affairs. Or you can simply utilise our main menu. And, if marriage is on the cards, we can also assist with a celebrancy service thanks to Married by Melanie marriage celebrant! Enjoy the week and, for our many friends in Greater Melbourne, we look forward to seeing you once the metro and regional border is abolished on November 8. Regards, Mark and Mel

05.01.2022 WE’RE BACK IN BUSINESS: THE FUN BEGINS ON SEPTEMBER 23 Hi all, This is as big as a Myer Boxing Day sale! Yes, that’s right: the Elpho’s period of inactivity is about to end when we reopen our doors on Wednesday, September 23. And we can’t bloody wait!... Fast-tracking to step three Covid-19 restrictions in regional Victoria has allowed us to flick the switch earlier than anticipated, and the ability to offer indoor dining has only sweetened the deal. IS THE HOTEL OPEN TO ALL AND SUNDRY? Initially, we’ll only be opening the doors to dine-in customers, with a maximum of 20 people permitted inside the hotel at any one time. The maximum dining period allowed for each table is two hours, and the maximum table size is 10. We’ll also offer dining in our rear courtyard, with a maximum of 50 guests permitted in that space. INDOOR BOOKINGS AND MULTIPLE SITTINGS Bookings are essential if you want to sit indoors. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings we’ll be taking bookings from 5:30pm, and on Friday and Saturday nights we’ll introduce two sittings: 5:30-7:30pm and 7:30-9:30pm. There’s also brunch (10:00am-midday) and lunch (midday-2:30pm) on Saturday and Sunday. To make a booking(s), call 5473 3165 (leave a message if we don’t answer), or you can send a note through our social channels (Facebook and Instagram) and we’ll get back to you. Please leave your name and phone number. OUTSIDE A LESS RIGID AFFAIR You can enjoy meals outside in all the times listed above, but we won’t be taking bookings: it will be on a first-come first-served basis. COVID-19 RULES There are plenty from our side of the equation, but guests must wear a face mask at all times when they are not sitting. eg during bathroom breaks, when arriving and leaving the hotel, or if they decide to get on our roof and clean out the gutters. Also, patrons must continue to sign the guest register. Thanks for your continued support on these measures. NEW MENUS! Yes indeed, and I’ll upload those onto our social channels and our website in the next few days. There are three pillars: the summer menu, brunch and we’ve put together six parma specials to kickstart our return to the dining arena. As always, there will be options aplenty, including vegetarian and vegan dishes. In the first week of October, our ‘themed’ weeks will return with a taste of Mexico. SEE YOU SOON That just about covers all the reopening bases. Just to confirm, bookings are essential for indoor dining from brunch to dinner, but no bookings are required for outdoor dining. Thanks for your support during a year that is already etched into the annals of history, and we can’t wait to start chewing the fat with you from next week. Regards, Mel and Mark

03.01.2022 OPEN FOR LUNCH ON WEDNESDAY, DEC 23! We like to live on the edge at the Elpho, so next week we are throwing normal protocol out the window and opening for lunch on Wednesday! Full menu, too, and the type of half-arsed service you've become accustomed to. Just joking, of course!... 01.01.2022 SPICE GIRLS HEADING TO THE ELPHO Hi all, Okay, a truly misleading headline, but we are spicing things up at the Elpho this week with a curry fest!... Here are the curries which will be on the specials board: Vietnamese beef curry; Green masala duck curry; Goan vindaloo seafood curry; Moroccan lamb curry; and Vegetable korma curry. Quite the quintet, right there. The curries will be served from lunch on Thursday until lunch on Sunday and all the sittings in between. Please note the curries won’t be on the takeaway menu. And the perfect accompaniment for the curries? Our new mango smash beverage, made from real Queensland mangoes. It packs an alcohol punch at 8%, though, so please bear that in mind if you’re using it to quell the spice pangs! We’re still limited with numbers indoors, so if you’d like to make a booking and try out the curries or just choose dishes from the normal menu call us on 5473 3165 (leave a message if you’re calling on Monday or Tuesday and we’ll get back to you on Wednesday), email [email protected] or go through our social channels. Bookings aren’t required for outside dining.. Can you imagine Posh Spice playing on the back stage at the Elpho, and then helping us to tap kegs in between sets? I’m belly laughing at the thought of it... Have a great week, Mark and Mel
