24.01.2022 Arran Machrie Moor "Fingal's Cut" Heavily Peated Malts Sherry Cask Finish, 54.4%. This is another one of the whiskies in our Whisky Trivia pack !!!! A distillery exclusive that's not available for sale anywhere but the distillery. But The Spirits Company were kind enough to allocate some for us for this event. It's a big and chewy whisky. Cocoa nibs, coffee beans, dark and chewy and then you get this very nice balanced smoke too. Absolutely beautiful and balanced !!!! You ha...ve to try it! 24.01.2022 White Oak Akashi for Liquors Hasegawa "The Colors of Four Season" 2016/2020 5yo White Wine Finish #6191 , 63% This is a Japanese single malt whisky from the White Oak Akashi Distillery in Hyogo and the cask was selected by Japanese retailer Liquors Hasegawa and bottled exclusively for them. The whisky was distilled in 2015 and was matured for 3 years in a bourbon hogshead and was then finished in a Yamanashi white wine cask #6191. The cask yielded 359 bottles and it was bottl...ed at natural cask strength of 63%. Tasting note: On the nose you get oaked white wine, lots of grape notes, syrupy, muscat, and a bit of a dunnage earthy character. Palate has a very typical Akashi character. There is also some raw grain character, and a bit hot at natural strength. Water brought out more fruits, but also the earthiness. But definitely more enjoyable with a bit of dilution. White fleshy fruits, fresh, sweet barley, and medium length. 22.01.2022 We couldn't help but to have a little taste of this Corowa Distilling Co. Single Barrel as we were packing the samples for our Whisky Trivia with Liam of The Spirits Company in a few weeks. And we were blown away by how good this was! It's only 2+ years old fully matured in ex-Jack Daniel's barrel and utilising Peated Malts, and the result is fantastic. Tastes way more mature than 2 years. A very nice medium peatiness, biscuity, vanilla, oatcakes, chewy, extremely well balanc...ed. Wow! You have to taste this! Thank you to all the participants, and thank you also to our lovely presentors, Dean @deandruce from Corowa Distillery @corowadistillingco , Kaitlyn @kaitlyn.t93 from Kavalan @kavalanwhisky and Mariella @arranwhiskymari from Arran @arranwhisky for tuning in from around the world to present their questions.... We hope everyone had as much fun as we did !!!! And now, for the moment everyone has been waiting for. 17.01.2022 Overeem Floc Shots for The Whiskylist and Whisky Lovers Australia, 100 Bottles, 43%. This is a very unique bottling done by Overeem Whisky for The Whisky List & Whisky Lovers Australia where all the flocculants and heavy flavour compounds at the bottom of the emptying vat was collected and bottled. This is essentially the complete opposite to chill filtration, where usually these compounds are filtered out under cold temperatures. But it is these compounds that give us the m...outh-feel, the texture and the flavours! Really interesting to taste and see, and very tasty! It was very chocolatey, hints orange liqueur, gentle spices, toffee and caramel. Round and chewy, oily! Long finish. About a quarter of this bottle left. 17.01.2022 Some really amazing news from the Victorian government yesterday! And zero cases for 2 days in a row !!!!! Well done to every Victorian. Our patience and sacrifices have paid off. Let's not stuff it up now. Now is indeed the time to get on the beers, and for something higher up the shelf, we are so happy to announce that we will be re-opening on Thursday, the 29th of October !!!!! We will be opened as usual Tuesdays to Saturdays, and from 4.30pm till late. Bookings are highly recommended as we have a capacity of 10pax. 15.01.2022 What a fantastic tasting we had over the weekend. No better way to spend a Saturday arvo than with Mr Dan Woolley of @highwaymanwhisky !!! There has been a lot of hype about the brand and mad rushes to buy every single release. Lots of people scrambling to find bottles of the smaller batches and with many left disappointed as some disappear within minutes. So do the whiskies actually live up to the hype? The answer is YES! Absolutely yes. In the tasting we tried whiskies from... Batch 6, 7 and 8 that were distilled at Adams Distillery @adamsdistillery down in Tassie. The whiskies were distilled according to specifications given by Dan and the new-make filled into barrels selected and provided by Dan. We also had the opportunity to try a peated new make, that was distilled by Dan at his own facility on his own still up at Byron Bay, and wow, it was tasty!!!! Many people were in love with the new make, and there were requests for Dan to bottle and sell this new-make! And we all know, with great new-make and good barrels the end product is only going to be fantastic, unless something goes very wrong. So we are really looking forward to these future batches of whiskies from Dan's still too! Thank you to all who joined us. Thank you for all your support for us and for @highwaymanwhisky !!!! The single malt is from the Benrinnes distillery and was matured in a single bourbon hogshead #HL13070 for 19 years before being bottles at natural cask strength of 49.6%. Tasting note:... Bright and citrusy, fruity, honey, yellow flowers, sweet, orchard fruits, and stonefruits. Palate has medium sweetness. Nice minerality. Clean and fruity. Great texture. Chewy. Creamy, savoury, salted vanilla, long and complex.
