24.01.2022 Hello my name is Brock and I'm 7 years old I've just recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. It has been a pretty tough month since this all started I had my first seizure at school then all the school holidays I was in and out of hospital which I didn't find fun while they tried to figure out why I was having seizures. Its been tough trying to get myself around the fact I'm having seizures which means I have to stop things I love to do till we get control of them. My mum Ky and dad Kyle are also so grateful for having The Epilepsy Centre give them some peace of mind for when I sleep by them gifting them a Seizure monitor mat for the bed. Thank you so much we will be forever grateful to all the wonderful people working at the Centre especially Robyn and Kidman Park Rotary Club who Sponsor The Epilepsy Centre.

20.01.2022 The Epilepsy Centre continues to commit to supporting families utilising funds donated towards Emfit Seizure Monitors for children at risk. This Monitor was donated by Kym Meers and Izla's Purple Crusade to this beautiful little boy Chase to keep him safe at night. "Hi my name is Chase and I am 15 months old. I had a very tricky birth and survived against all odds! I had my first seizure at 11 months old which lasted for 90 minutes, which gave my Mum Cindy quite the fright.... I have since been diagnosed with epilepsy and have started the journey on medication. I love to read books and dance to music. Mum and I are so grateful to the Epilepsy Centre for our Emfit Monitor. Now Mum and I can get a good night's rest. Thank you Epilepsy Centre!" Thanks again so much Cindy x

13.01.2022 Sad details have emerged in the press over the death of Ekaterina 'Katia' Alexandrovskaya, a talented 20 year old Australian Olympic Figure Skater who, it is speculated, took her own life. The Russian-Australian star had been told to give up sport - in which she had been training since she was just four - after being diagnosed with epilepsy. (Daily Mail) Researchers have speculated that the risk of suicide is up to 10 times higher for people living with a diagnosis of epile...psy. This is just one of the many many reasons why support services and a growth in epilepsy awareness and the destigmatization of this common condition is nothing short of essential. 12.01.2022 Thank you to Paul Timoney for your continued support of The Epilepsy Centre. Your efforts towards raising awareness about the lack of support from the South Australian Government for the essential services that our four Registered Nurses and Social Worker provide to so many families is truly appreciated. 12.01.2022 Hamish's epilepsy story In this story from SBS_Australia, Hamish's mother Tracey shares her perspective as a parent of a child who lives with difficult-to-c...ontrol seizures. Despite the challenges, Tracey retains hope: "My hope is that one day research can find a cure, or effective drugs, for these types of seizures. The more we talk about it the more we’ll be able to remove the shame and stigma that seizure sufferers often face. The more it’s discussed also means more awareness and more funding for research. In the meantime, as a mother, I will continue to do all I can to help my son and others like him." Tracey received support from our friends and affiliate organisation in Victoria, Epilepsy Foundation of Australia If you relate to this story send your message of hope to Tracey and Hamish below

08.01.2022 Another beautiful family came in last week and received another Emfit Seizure Monitor. This was possible from the hard work and dedication to raising funds from Kym Meers and Izla's Purple Crusade. Thank you Kym for making such a huge difference to another beautiful family. Pictured from left to right is Mum Jess, our Social Worker Ann and gorgeous little William. Here's his story. "Hello my name is William and I'm 4 years old. I had my first generalised Tonic Clonic seizure ...when I was attending Childcare the Educators did really well looking after me and keeping me safe while my Mum Jess and Dad Jason and the Ambulance were on their way. I had to stay in the hospital and this gave everyone who loves me a big fright and a whole lot of questions. After many seizures and a lot of tests I have been recently diagnosed with Epilepsy and we are now trialing medications. My parents were anxious and needed support so they contacted The Epilepsy Centre, they were so informative and understanding. Mum and Dad had many conversations and also their training on how to help me when I have my seizures. And today I was blessed by such wonderful people at the Epilepsy Centre, who so kindly gifted me the Emfit Seizure Monitor, to keep me safe and give my family the peace of mind and reassurance to sleep at night. A heartfelt thank you to the amazing people at the Epilepsy Centre". See more
