14.01.2022 Cleaning up an old cottage, we found this little fellow trapped inside ( we call these ones sugar goannas)! He had done a great job on the gekkos but was still on the skinny side. Our youngest son is still doing school online from home and it’s his birthday, so we said he could feed him up for a few days before releasing him somewhere more pleasant. At lunch, we went in to show the gorgeous creature off to his Dad only to discover he’s done a Houdini ....... escaped from a sealed reptile enclosure !!!!!! ...... so somewhere in our house ........
13.01.2022 It's OK if you drop the balls that bounce and hold onto the ones made of glass..... Sometimes, you can actively even put those balls down and kick them to the corner! To anyone in fear and trembling at the thought of term two homeschooling ...... especially primary school kids ....... while I'm not suggesting for one moment to throw all your cares to the wind and write the year off, I thought I might offer a bit of perspective. 10 years ago my family relocated to the othe...r side of the world and all four of my children missed 1.5 years of primary school. https://journeytribe.wordpress.com//a-family-in-france-pa/ The intention was to drop them down a grade or two upon our return home but the education system had changed and the new way of doing things involved slotting them back in with their age bracket peers. It seemed ridiculous, but it's also what the kids wanted (of course they did). This was toughest for my son who went straight into year three completely unable (unwilling) to focus, read or write. He HATED school but on the plus side loved his friends. He had to work hard for every D or C grade he achieved, was envious of his sister who seemed to float through her sea of A's and scoffed at her disappointment in any B's. I actively tried all sorts of activities, therapy, extra homework, nutrition regimes etc. He was stressed, I was concerned and determined to make a difference. One day my husband said "Look, just stop worrying and he'll be fine". I did seriously doubt my husband's flippant advice, but we were spiraling. SO, somehow ...... I did, and he was. "Dash" has never stopped surprising me since. In the challenging cohort of year 12s in 2020 I can confidently say "He's got this, regardless of the outcome"..... and he doesn't have the added worry of his mother worrying about him! IT'S OK, they will be OK, you are OK (even when you don't feel the same)
12.01.2022 Nothing that 2020 delivers from here on in will surprise me - I accepted several months back that I simply have to remember to stay buckled in! Now I'm sure you all missed my musings No? Ah well, either way..... amidst the noise and haste and resets this year has delivered, two months ago, I was unceremoniously hacked, a strange friend request was approved and inappropriate content was posted as my profile pic (most likely a picture of an ISIS flag) to trigger an auto and p...ermanent disable by facebook. It has been 6 weeks of dead-ends, round-a-bouts and general frustration at not having control of my/our public face.... and an awful lot of learning, asking for help from strangers in the same situation as me......... and a good side dose of acceptance (knowing there was a chance I might never get my account back)! Finally.... contact to a real person at Facebook who actually worked on resolving my problem! A miracle indeed! To AVOID this happening to you, the first thing you need to do is; **Set up two-factor authentication. The hackers can and will target anyone but are mainly focused on gaining control of business pages with advertising account IDs. ** Have at least two admins on "FB groups" so they are not left in limbo. ** If you have a Facebook "Page" it is a good idea to have at least two admins (choose a trusted friend) on that as well. ** Change password on your Facebook AND email account. ** For Facebook Business Pages - use Business Manager to set up two factor ID there too. While everything else is going hell, west and crooked, it feels pretty good to be back in control of my personal virtual space at least. Did I miss much? Apparently some "second wave" has Premiers rolling out barricades at the border, suddenly no one wants to play in Melbourne's beautiful back yard anymore..... and half an hour before the Isolated Children's Parents' Association (#ICPA) first ever web conference went to air, a freak solar flare took out the skymuster satellite which feeds most of regional Australia's internet services. 2020 is that you rolling marbles down the aisle again?
09.01.2022 Now this one is most fitting ..... I think we can all relate to this right now.
03.01.2022 What's your ritual? I love this piece by Jo Joyce and marvel at the most obscure and seemingly more mundane memories we each have tucked away in the recesses of our minds that a cup of smokey tea can conjure in a heartbeat. Because she's my sister, we're bound to share a few. I am definitely prone to my own bouts of nostalgia over a "cuppa".
01.01.2022 A little lapse in concentration..... while we are feeling nostalgic about what we could be up to .... the second installment to A family in France (ah, it seems like many moons ago now).
