13.06.2022 We are pleased to announce our third and final selection panelist Ilona McGuire. Ilona McGuire is a proud Noongar (Whadjuk, Ballardong, Yuat) and Kungarakan woman. Her ancestry extends from Whadjuk boodja to the Fitzmaurice region of the Northern Territory. As a mix-media contemporary artist, she has worked primarily in printmaking, painting and installation. Recurring themes such as cultural identity, spirituality and traditional versus contemporary Indigenous values reflec...ts her own journey as a grounded young Indigenous woman. More recently, Ilona has worked in drone choreography, sound design and narration. The 2021 Fremantle Biennale festival, Crossing21 headlined with her work, Moombaki. Moombaki saw 160 drones take flight to share Whadjuk Dreamtime stories in an immersive experience of light, movement and sound. We are so excited to have Ilona work with us this year. There’s no doubt Ilona will provide incredible insight to this years selection process and finalists.
