21.01.2022 The fabulous Chris lines is visiting The Felt Studio from the UK in 2020. I have had a cancellation in a class coming up on the 6/7/8 March. She is a wonderfu...l feltmaker and artist ! I can highly recommend Chris, and her work is wonderful. Her background is fine art and teaching and she brings a wealth of experience to us! Sometimes, as you know, tutors have great work and poor teaching skills- Chris is a wonderful teacher and has the felting skills to match so she is a treasure! Dont miss this great opportunity! Chris will be teaching a three-day personal maps class. From Chris: "In recent years with the increase in availability and access to information, many people have become interested in their personal family history and their place in the world. With the ability to digitize information, many artists have started to include imagery from their personal archives in their artwork. A Personal Map can be anything from an architects plan to a map of a town or a district or even the layout of a room. It can be literal or abstract and its meaning can be obvious or hidden. The images of maps are fascinating subjects for textile art. In this workshop I teach a number of approaches to surface design and felting techniques. These include methods for dyeing and printing fabrics with found imagery or photographs; laminating fabrics (which may be hand-dyed and printed or found) to multi-layer pre-felts; collage and layering, ways of creating line and outline; to create a composite design that becomes one piece of felt (such as a hanging) or a number of samples." 04.01.2022 Thank you so much for your support. An artist needs a lot of support from friends and family, and also from people who invest in our work and take classes. There is also the vast army of unseen volunteers who help by billeting and organizing classes and workshops with tutors from far away, taking us to and fro and showing us the sights of new places. Many friends support us on stalls and handing out flyers for exhibitions..the list is endless. Thank you to all my facebook friends who enjoy my pages. Today we reached 2000 likes....which in this modern-day helps a lot with sharing my work. I am so thankful. Without you all I could not do what I do. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

02.01.2022 My dear friend Karen and I were teaching in Warwick and got up early to go for a walk.It was a chilly morning and as we stood in the sun defrosting ourselves three magpies decided to serenade us.Karen got this gorgeous photo of all three of them in glorious mid-warble! I thought it worth sharing with a quote from one of my favourite books. Julia Cameron has a new complete edition of The Artists Way out and my copy just arrived. It is three books in one and fabulous.

02.01.2022 I love my life as an artist. I have never, ever worked so hard or been so stretched and challenged. Just pondering my working life as I make contentedly in the ...studio today. My "money earning" life started as a 10 year old making copper enamelled jewellery and selling it to my friends parents! I baby-sat, I slaved away at Highvale Traders chicken farm collecting eggs when I was 12, I worked as a "checkout chick", I baked for a health food shop, I ran art classes at the Samford Hall in my teens, I worked as a cook for the Creche and Kindy Association at Newmarket, I worked as a cook at Loretto convent, cooking for the nuns. I was one of Samford Restaurant's first waitresses. I worked at a deli for a bit and I am sure I have missed a few jobs! I have worked as a registered teacher in Special Education and Home Economics, I have been, with Murray, a restauranteur, a caterer, a gift shop owner, and an organic shop owner. We have raised two lovely boys and supported our extended family in amidst it all...we both worked half time so one of us was with the children. Heaven knows how we balanced it all! Murray and I have survived over 35 years of both being completely self employed! I have loved every job I have ever had and feel pretty pleased I can say that. Work never felt like a chore..it was always just part of life. I have been blessed with a strong constitution and lots of energy. My life and work have always merged, they have never been seperate and I have learned so much along the way. Now I am a fulltime feltmaker. Phew!! Then there are the voluntary work/jobs...all well loved too. Hospice work with Karuna Hospice, Steiner School and community arts. From May 31st this year I will be taking a sabbatical from travelling and teaching until January 2022. My 60th year next year, will be spent at home puddling about. I will be playing in my studio for fun and enjoying life, family and my garden. I am very excited about the next phase of my working life after my sabbatical. I reckon the best is yet to come! Is it wrong to be so excited about the next phase when you haven't even had your break yet? Hmmm must love my work. I am just so excited about all the possibilities! This is me on my fifth birthday!
