11.01.2022 SIMBANG GABI IN AUSTRALIA FILIPINO CATHOLIC CHRISTMAS TRADITION Simbang Gabi (Evening Mass) is a nine-day series of Masses practiced by Filipino Catholics and Aglipayans in the Philippines and now introduced by Filipinos in Australia in preparation for Christmas celebration.... The Simbáng Gabi or Dawn Masses in Australia are usually held daily from December 16 to 24 and occur at different times ranging from as early as 4:00 am to 6:30 am. However, some hold the masses at night while others start on the 15th and end on the 23rd of December. On the last day of the Simbang Gabi, which is Christmas Eve, the service is instead called Misa de Gallo (Spanish for Rooster’s Mass). It has an important role in Philippine culture.
