20.01.2022 As you may have seen in the media in the last week there has been a lot of focus on changes to the mortgage broking industry, this will have a massive impact on myself as a small business owner but most importantly you as the consumer!.... Why you may ask ?:. Basically they want to implement a fee for service system, yes charge you the customer.. ... How would this work ?. You as the customer would potentially either pay a bank/lender to do your home loan or a mortgage broker. Yes! they want to charge you a fee as well as interest...fair hey?. At the moment the bank/lender pays brokers for your business and not you....yes yes I know your catching onto why the banks like this!- they could now get to charge you a fee as well as interest and not pay the mortgage broker that is helping you...happy days increased profit for them.... What this means for you ?. This will make it unaffordable for mortgage brokers to stay in business...in turn less competition, which will mean less choice for you!with less choice/competition comes a higher interest rate in reality...(you can see why a bank would like like this!). Over 59% homeowners use a mortgage broker to help them find the right loan at the cheapest interest rate possible....this shows you what a negative impact it will have on competition and ultimately you as the consumer, it also shows you why banks support it.. What you can do ? Sign the change.org petition ‘Save the Mortgage Broking Industry’ currently already at 60,000+ signatures (link in comments)and let your voice be heard, we already pay enough in fees and interest!. Your bank can open one door, a mortgage broker can open many for you that’s why we write over 59% of home loans in Australia!....
