25.01.2022 Barely 8% Of New Year’s Resolutions Will Survive Until the End Of January. It might seem obvious but deciding is different to doing! Doing requires some planning and commitment. Changing your environment, removing temptations or distractions, or simply making sure you have the support network and resources you need to make sure you can start and maintain your new behaviour or work towards your new goal.... Individuals do not consciously set out to fail but many do because they fail to plan or their plan is too complicated or lacks a destination. Travelling on a road to nowhere is a dangerous plan. www.financialadviceshop.com.au HOT TIP: When it comes to money, many people are failing every payday because they do not have a sensible strategic plan and do not have a future destination in mind. 24.01.2022 Can Superannuation Survive In Its Current Form? Hopefully Superannuation Does Not End In Ruins. Superannuation might look very different after 6 October 2020 when the Government hands down Its delayed Budget. Share your thoughts on what you think might change or things that should not change. ... I suspect superannuation will not survive in its current form as the Government makes desperate moves to increase tax revenue. I expect there could be reductions to contribution limits, the $1.6m transfer balance cap could be reduced, allocated pension accounts could lose their tax free status, allocated pension payments could become partially taxed, and/or the tax on superannuation account earnings or lump sum withdrawals could be increased. If the Government does attack superannuation in the 6 October 2020 Budget it will be very negative for the future success of the superannuation sector. Fortunately there is time to plan and take action ahead of the October Budget to attempt to pre-empt some possible changes to superannuation. www.financialadviceshop.com.au #superannuationreform #financialadvice #superannuationadvice #retirement #financialplanning #retirementplanning #superannuation Stay Connected | Stay Informed | Stay Safe

22.01.2022 Are Expectations For A Successful COVID-19 Vaccine Creating A Share Market Bubble? There is an enormous amount of money and research effort being applied globally to a long list of promising COVID-19 vaccine candidates. There is also a lot of hope a few of those vaccine candidates will be successful. 19.01.2022 Financial Advice: What Consumers Really Think? ASICs recently released report into what consumers really think about financial advice has been causing some discussion in financial planning circles but the report findings do not really reveal anything new or remarkable. If you would like to read the ASIC report or review the key findings, the report is available via the following link:... https://download.asic.gov.au//rep627-published-26-august-2 Unfortunately, with rapidly increasing regulation, compliance costs and the desire by a number of financial advisers to distance themselves from large institutions so as to achieve greater autonomy, consumers may find it more expensive to see a financial adviser in the future and they may also find it harder to find a financial adviser who is seeing new clients. This is a very disappointing outcome as it is likely that a greater percentage of consumers in the future will not be able to receive the financial advice that they really need. At The Financial Advice Shop, we have always found that the very best way for a consumer to find a financial adviser they can trust and for us to find a new client who will fully appreciate our capabilities, is via a referral from someone they know and trust and someone who also trusts us.

19.01.2022 Are You Making Sound Financial Decisions Or Just A Biased Accident Waiting To Happen? The psychology behind who we are and how we make decisions is an important area to consider and understand when planning for the future. There are many biases individuals have that influence how they make decisions and behavioural finance attempts to understand and explain the investor behaviour.... Understanding the biases will almost certainly assist in making sounder decisions. There are many biases but some to consider include Anchoring Bias, Hindsight Bias, Overconfidence Bias, Loss Aversion Bias, Status Quo Bias, Mental Accounting Bias, Regency Bias, Framing Bias, Regret Aversion Bias, Confirmation Bias, Self Attribution Bias, Representativeness Bias, Affinity Bias and Outcome Bias. 18.01.2022 If You Know Someone Who Doesnt Pay Off Their Credit Card In Full Each Month, The Following Might Be The Trigger To Shock Them Into Action! Imagine an average person being told they can save $251,391,585.58 on a $5,800 balance if they pay off their credit card on time rather than making minimum monthly payments. 17.01.2022 With Interest Rates Heading To Hysterical Lows, Do You Know Someone Who Is Starting To Wonder If They Will Survive Retirement? People often ask how much money will I need in superannuation for my retirement. The answer, as you would expect, needs to be considered very carefully as there are many personal factors and variables to take into account. A hypothetical place to start the planning process is to aim to own your home, be debt free and have superannuation investments... that exceed the current maximum amounts for a part Age Pension: $863,500 for a couple or $574,500 if you are single. If you have the good fortune to have an entitlement to a Defined Benefit Superannuation pension, it is an extraordinary advantage but it is not always enough in its own right. If you would like to model your situation to see what income might be possible in retirement, visit ASICs Money Smart website and put your assumptions into one of their calculators: https://www.moneysmart.gov.au//income-sources-in-retirement We know from experience that to have the best chance of enjoying retirement you cannot afford to make mistakes along the way. In a world of falling interest rates, if you are intending to rely on cash returns to sustain you through a long and enjoyable retirement, you may well need to think very carefully about your strategy. 16.01.2022 The Power Of Regular Superannuation Contributions For Those Nearing Retirement Should Not Be Underestimated! 16.01.2022 Should The Law Require Superannuation Providers To Contact Their Existing Members To Advise When They Release Improved Products? As shown in the latest Productivity Commission Inquiry Report "Superannuation: Assessing Efficiency and Competitiveness" there still seems to be plenty of room for improvement when it comes to superannuation. In recent years, the cost of investing in superannuation has been falling but unless investors actively review their superannuation fees they ...are unlikely to know the full situation. There is little doubt that if you have been invested in a superannuation product for a number of years there will likely be cheaper options now available for you to consider. Asgard Superannuation is an excellent case study for comparing fees for old and new superannuation products, although the comparison information for the full picture is not readily available to many consumers and investors. At last count Asgard had seven (7) superannuation products that have a very wide range of fees and bear the Asgard name, and they also have a larger number of Badged superannuation products that they administer but bear someone elses name and/or branding. In some cases, Badged and/or early versions of superannuation products are among the most expensive in the industry as they are lining someone elses pockets with profit sharing arrangements at your expense, and the profit sharing arrangements continue in perpetuity without any obligation for service. Unless you have a financial adviser who is truly looking out for your best interests and is not receiving conflicted remuneration or commissions, you are unlikely to be aware when cheaper superannuation options are available to you. As a result, you should never trust your superannuation provider to be proactively acting in your best interests when it comes to fees and commissions. If you have a superannuation account and you feel the fees are too high, they probably are and there is likely a cheaper option that is now available for you to consider. What should you do next? Make 2019 the year you review your superannuation fees and if appropriate, take proactive action to reduce your fees wherever possible and at the same time seek assistance to review your current superannuation retirement strategy. www.financialadviceshop.com.au Disclaimer: The information in this post is of a general nature only and has been provided without taking account of your objectives, financial situation or needs. 15.01.2022 Asgard has recently introduced a new superannuation product that is a game changer for many Asgard investors. It is a shame Asgard will not actively tap existing investors on the shoulder to let them know there may be cheaper superannuation options now available. If you are an Asgard investor with a large superannuation investment balance, there has never been a better time to talk to an expert on whether your fees and commissions can be reduced. 10.01.2022 Is There A Realistic Pathway To $1.6m In Superannuation For Everyone? From a purely academic perspective, achieving $1.6m in superannuation or something close to it, primarily depends on a range of factors including but not limited to contributions, earnings (net of fees) and the timeline to retirement. The mistake many make is that they do not start taking action on their superannuation contributions or retirement planning until it is far too late. Dont let this happen to ...you! To benefit from what Albert Einstein referred to as the eighth wonder of the world (compound interest), there is a need to start saving as early as possible and with additional tax effective contributions earning solid and consistent long term net returns. You must definitely not make the mistake of starting too late with additional contributions or having poor net returns over the life of your investments. The Australian Securities & Investment Commission (ASIC) publish a very useful calculator where you can play around with some scenarios associated with saving in superannuation for retirement and also funding a pension from your superannuation in retirement. The calculators will hopefully shock you and spur you into action! https://www.moneysmart.gov.au//super-and-retirement-calcul While there are some who suggest the current 9.5% Superannuation Guarantee is enough, we strongly disagree. By simply relying on a handout from your employer as part of your total employment package you really are just setting yourself up for an underwhelming experience in retirement. Retirement planning and superannuation are no different to many other important things in life: your personal contribution and efforts often determine in a very significant way the level of success. If you do not make a meaningful contribution to the important things in life the outcomes will often be disappointing. HOT TIP: Seize the moment, take control and make sure you have a goal for your superannuation and retirement. www.financialadviceshop.com.au #retirementgoals #superannuationsavings #netsuperannuationreturns #superannuationfees #superannuationgoals #financialadvicecanberra #financialadvisercanberra #financialplannercanberra Disclaimer: The information in this post is of a general nature only and has been provided without taking account of your objectives, financial situation or needs. 04.01.2022 Coronavirus (COVID-19) And Early Access To Superannuation From 20 April 2020 the Australian Government is allowing early access to superannuation savings for people affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19). If eligible, individuals can apply online through myGov to access up to $10,000 of their superannuation before 1 July 2020, and a further $10,000 from 1 July 2020 to 24 September 2020. https://www.ato.gov.au//withdr/early-access-to-your-super/... There is plenty of discussion about why it might be a bad idea to access superannuation early but for anyone with high interest debt or an urgent need for cash it might be a very simply decision that can be based on some common sense and potentially create long term financial advantage if financial discipline is established for the future. Consider the hypothetical example of someone who has a $20,000 credit card debt with an interest rate of around 20% p.a. If they leave their super account intact, one thing they may need to consider is whether they are confident their superannuation will return anywhere near 20% p.a. on a continuing basis into the future? Of course, there are many other things that need to be considered and ASIC has published additional information that must be considered before making any decisions. https://moneysmart.gov.au/covid-19/accessing-your-super It seems there may be many Australians who have high interest debt or an urgent need for cash and should consider if they could potentially benefit from the early access to superannuation that the current Coronavirus epidemic presents. As always, the devil is in the detail so never make an investment decision without considering all the options and always seek appropriate advice from a licenced professional when required. HOT TIP: Beware of scams asking for a payment in return for assistance to access super early. You only need to visit myGov to start the process. financialadviceshop.com.au #coronavirus #coronavirussuperannuation #earlyaccesstosuperannuation #coronavirussuperannuationaccess #earlyaccesssuperannuation #superannuationscams Disclaimer: The information in this post is of a general nature only, is incomplete in the views expressed and has been provided without taking account of your objectives, financial situation or needs.
