12.01.2022 What Is High Intensity Training? And no, its not just training with a very intense amount of motivation. Actually, it is called high intensity training because it consists of short bursts of very intense activity punctuated by short resting intervals. You can do this type of interval training with any cardio activity you can think of, whether its cycling, running, jumping, or any other cardiovascular activity.... The idea is to be at your maximum aerobic capacity (AKA VO2max) for about thirty seconds to a minute at a time. Now, thats a high intensity interval! How do you know youve reached your VO2max? Basically, if you are running out of breath and you are cycling at maximum speed for a minute, you have reached VO2max and youve completed your first interval. What Makes High Intensity Training Different Than Regular Exercise? High-intensity interval workouts burn a lot of calories both during and especially after the session. When you are doing cardio at your maximum aerobic exertion level (your VO2max), then you may not be building up endurance, but you are burning calories from carbs. And afterwards, your cardiovascular system goes into excess post-oxygen consumption (EPOC), which causes your metabolism to speed up and burn fat for hours after youre already done working out. Getting Started Zero To 60 For best all-around results, you will want to mix up your high-intensity training with a steady, low-impact cardio workout like long-distance running. Heres why: You should rest for two days between high intensity workouts to give your body a chance to recover. Finally, studies show that you can burn subcutaneous fat like belly fat more efficiently with both types of cardio if you alternate between the two. When you start with interval training, plan on only working out for ten to twenty minutes. If youre working out in intervals of 30 seconds to a minute at max capacity, then you should be totally burned out in twenty total minutes. Make sure to warm up before each session in order to avoid injury, and drink plenty of water before your workout and during your rest intervals to stay hydrated. 09.01.2022 HOW How do I actually achieve the goals and resolutions that are buzzing around in my head? Well, New Year is a great time for a fresh start. It’s that feeling of turning a page and making this year the year. Or for some people it’s a how can I improve on last year?... Well let’s break it down hey. Much like writing a book, you start at the end and you plot what you need to write, or in this case what you need to achieve to reach your goals. Basically you need a plan, a road map to get to your destination. This is your Goal. And it starts today! Today is Day 1 on your way to your destination. Start with breaking your goals down into attainable tasks and lifestyle changes. A task is something you need to do and complete, like I will do 3 x exercise sessions per week or I will walk 15k every week. Now the next thing that you need to do to is make sure you hit your tasks, so you need to be accountable in some way. Secondly is your lifestyle changes, these are aspects of your lifestyle that you’re not happy with and/or they will prevent you from achieving your tasks. Write them down in the notes section on your phone and then break them up into smaller groups or a singular group and then put achievable deadlines to each change that you’re going to make. Again, much like tasks, you need to be accountable. Is this the only way to achieve your goals? No it isn’t, but it works for me and it’s simple. I dont need a new APP or a you beaut Calendar tracker that’s going to remind to exercise or to eat better. I just simply write the road map and prioritise my tasks and lifestyle changes over a period of time and I make myself accountable for it. Now finally we need to have the solutions for each task and lifestyle change, haha now it gets a little trickier. Or does it? I mean most of us have been down this road before and we generally know what works and what doesn’t. If it’s worked in the past, just repeat and try stay more consistent this time. If your going to try something new, stick with it and make it measurable. The answer is consistency... and over time you will get great results. Don’t chase quick fixes, because a quick fix is also quick to undo. And the road ahead isn’t always straight forward, so don’t expect it to be.

The key to getting lean and building muscle is to get on board with a little of each type of exercise. But in order to start exercising in the first place, you will have to figure out what you enjoy most, because if youre trudging through your workouts day after day, youre bound to burn out. How Mu...ch Can You Commit? Wanting to exercise in order to change your life is a fantastic first step. My wife and I have been through it all: Gaining weight, losing some of it, and then losing ourselves in the monotony of a hectic lifestyle. We have come through on the other side the healthy side.
