23.01.2022 Today’s flowers: stock, sea holly and lisianthus. #WORDYWEDNESDAY In honour of Remembrance Day, today we’re sharing the words of poet and soldier, Rupert Brooke.... Rupert Brooke is often considered a "Georgian" poet, referring to the 20th century British movement named in honor of King George V. A soldier during World War I, Brooke died of dysentery and blood poisoning aboard a troop ship. If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is for ever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam, A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven. -Rupert Brooke 1887-1915 11/11 Lest We Forget

21.01.2022 Today’s flowers: tweedia, chrysanthemums and delphinium A memory came up on my Facebook the other day, a treasured conversation with my Dad when I stayed at his place one night. It went something like this: Me: what on earth were you doing with packing tape at 5.30 this morning?!... Dad: 5 Me: whatever, what were you doing that woke me up? Dad: shat the bed Me: with packing tape? Dad: no I went to bed straight after turtleman Me: you're not listening Dad: what? Me:...5am this morning, I heard packing tape... What were you doing?! Dad: oh... Fixing the tap.... It’s really no wonder I turned out how I did. Shop that shit here: https://theflowergirl.net.au/shop/

19.01.2022 Today’s flowers: Vanda orchids, molucca balm and lisianthus. Today’s #WORDYWEDNESDAY is a poem I used to recite to my daughter when she was a baby. Wynken, Blynken and Nod is a poem by Eugene Field written in 1889. Originally called Dutch lullaby the spelling of the names and reference to a wooden shoe suggest this beautiful poem is remnants of an immigrants dream. Enjoy. ... Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod one night Sailed off on a wooden shoe Sailed down a river of crystal light Into a sea of dew "Now where are you going and what do you wish?" The old moon asked the three "Well we're going out fishing for Herring fish That live in the beautiful sea" "And some silver and gold have we" Said, Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod The old moon laughed and sang a song As they rocked in their wooden shoe And the wind that sped them all night long Ruffled the waves of dew While the little stars were the Herring fish That lived in the beautiful sea "Now cast your nets wherever you wish Never a feared are we" So sang the stars to the fishermen three Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod All night long their nets they threw To the stars in the twinkling foam Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe Bringing the fishermen home T'was all so pretty a sight it seemed As if it could not be And some folks thought t'was a dream They dreamed of sailing the beautiful sea But I shall name you the fishermen three Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod Now Winkin' and Blinkin' are two little eyes And Nod is a little head And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies Is a wee one's trundle bed So close your eyes while mother sings Of the beautiful sights that be And you will see the wonderful things As you rock in your misty sea Where the old moon rocked the fishermen three Winkin' and Blinkin' and Nod

18.01.2022 Today’s flowers: leucospernum, chrysanthemums and some flowery shit whose name escapes me right now. I’m convinced my barista is trying to poison me. One of them anyway- I know the girls at Valentines are reading this going What the fuck, Bron?! Ladies, this isn’t directed at you- believe it or not I get coffee from a couple of places... it’s all about sharing the love and whether or not I apparently feel like being poisoned that day.... Let me explain. I have a long black with about an inch of cold milk in the top. Now clearly he’s been lied to his whole life about what an inch looks like, because my coffee was still looking like a cow had just waved its hooves over the top. Then one day I took a sip... and the lid smelled like a pet shop. Has old mate been slipping dog worming tablets into my coffee? So yesterday he went as far as sniffing the lid before putting it on, and then he made me sniff it. No horse tranquillisers. It was possibly the best coffee he’s ever made me.

17.01.2022 Today’s flowers: stock, carnations and daffodils My biggest baby turns 5 today. It’s the first time I haven’t cried whilst I was wrapping her presents last night. Maybe it’s because she really is a little girl now, she’s fully lost her baby looks, or maybe it’s because of the relationship we have; the sideways glances at each other when her Dad or sister do something funny (or gross) and we know what each other is thinking without words. My little coffee (or hot chocolate...) and TV partner at 5.30am every morning. My little partner in crime, so much like me but also so very different; at 5 years old my lucky girl has seen and done so much already. Someone told me once that mothers and daughters can never be friends. But I disagree, I had a mother and adult daughter come in here a few weeks ago, and watching the beautiful dynamic between them I wished that Eva and I will also have the same relationship as she grows up. I think we’re off to a great start. FGxo

17.01.2022 Today’s flowers: roses, carnations and freesias. #FRIENDLYFRIDAY I have this friend... well actually friends...... I’m really bad at keeping in touch. Because I’ve lived in 3 different states, I have friends across Australia but I’m also really bad at dropping them a line just to see how they’re going. Then out of the blue one will call me just to say g’day and I’m grateful but shredded with guilt. It’s not that I don’t think of them, and they know that. They just know that between being a business owner, firefighter, uni student, mother and amateur actor I’m really time poor. So yesterday for R U Ok day I picked out three of my friends who I thought were the most vulnerable or at risk, and I just chatted with them. And we laughed, a lot. And now they’re probably frightened because it’s weird I called because they know how much I hate talking on the phone I have pretty amazing friends. After all these years we can still just catch up whenever and pick up where we left off- and because there’s so much time in between it means there’s always stuff to talk about How lucky am I?

16.01.2022 Today’s flowers: dahlia, leucadendron and berzelia #WORDYWEDNESDAY Today we’re discovering those forgotten English words that we can still use.... I challenge you to use one today. Fudgel : pretending to work. Dysania: the art of trying to get out of bed in the morning. Ultracrepidarian: a person who criticises, judges or gives advice outside of their area of expertise Lanspressado: someone who turns up all the time without money Groke: the art of staring at someone while they’re eating in the hopes that they’ll share.

16.01.2022 Today’s flowers: protea, alstroemerias and blushing bride Things that never used to be said in my house: Don’t put that crayon in my bum you dickhead.... -Eva, 5 in the bath with her sister, 2.

16.01.2022 Another dried arrangement ready to go out today. I’ve only ever been a fan of neutral coloured dried flowers for a few reasons: ~ as a gift neutral colours are safer than garish or dyed preserved flowers, it’s uncouth to assume one knows how the recipient wishes to dress their house.... ~ just because you have 2 shades of pink, or two shades of green- does NOT mean they should be arranged together! ~ most of the preserved and dried flowers we use are in their natural colours... meaning less harmful dyes for the environment. ~ we’re all about nature... if it’s found in those colours in nature, who am I to f*ck with it? 16.01.2022 Today’s flowers: parrot tulips, chrysanthemums and ranunculus #FRIENDLYFRIDAY I have this friend. ... She has a new found confidence and I can see her testing the waters, making mistakes, learning lessons. She comes across as very nonchalant- she appears comfortable in her own skin. She doesn’t want to be fearful, and if you met her you wouldn’t think it... but she is. And that’s what I love about her. I feel like a safe place for her- I want to set her up to win at life, but be a supportive safety net if she fails until she finds her wings. Which she will. Because she’s my friend.

16.01.2022 We’re done doing the arranging! We’re ready for holidays and we want the studio CLEARED OUT! It’s always sad to see flowers go to waste so we’re selling them as loose stems ready for you to DIY in your vases at home for Christmas Day. 14.01.2022 Today’s flowers: roses, berzelia and leucadendron #FRIENDLYFRIDAY I have this friend...... Her fiancé is currently working away and has been for months now, so she doesn’t get to see him very often unless he comes down. While telling myself and our other friend that he was coming down this weekend, we immediately get excited for her. I start thinking of all the things they can do together, where they may be able to go out for dinner, where they can go on a date... SHAVE EVERYTHING!! Our other friend demands. What happened to courtship people? What’s wrong with a kiss?! Y’all can’t just be diving into this stuff head first (pardon the analogy

07.01.2022 Today’s flowers: roses, sea holly and carnations #WORDYWEDNESDAY So...... I’m in this play. More specifically community theatre. You may have seen the posters around town... I’m playing Maggie the Cat in Cat in a hot tin roof by Tennessee Williams. One of Williams's more famous works and his personal favorite, the play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1955. Set in the "plantation home in the Mississippi Delta" of Big Daddy Pollitt, a wealthy cotton tycoon, the play examines the relationships among members of Big Daddy's family, primarily between his son Brick and Maggie the "Cat", Brick's wife. Here’s one of my favourite quotes: Laws of silence don't work.... When something is festering in your memory or your imagination, laws of silence don't work, it's just like shutting a door and locking it on a house on fire in hope of forgetting that the house is burning. But not facing a fire doesn't put it out. Silence about a thing just magnifies it. It grows and festers in silence, becomes malignant.... If you like stories with fluffy rabbits, full of love and honest people, this isn’t the play for you. But if you prefer sex, deceit, booze and all the other fun stuff, come back to the theatre... and see me me walk like a T-Rex in heels You can book tickets here: https://showtickets.online/tc-events/cat-on-a-hot-tin-roof/
