25.01.2022 A lot going on in this pot. Including the new life via stolon that has popped up, somewhat to my surprise, near to the exceedingly small star of the show. This is a discounted Darlingtonia pot that will only get better with time. There are two available, but this is certainly the busiest. Ask about them on your visit. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
25.01.2022 S. flava var. Maxima’s pristine yellow-green pitchers. Many more of this clone will be available next spring. A new personal favourite we only began supplying this growing season. Open by appointment FRIDAYS and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
24.01.2022 Some terrific spring traps boasted on our stock plants. These are some of our oldest cultivated clones. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
22.01.2022 You guys ever seen a (shy a mere two mil) 4cm trap? This is one. Our good friend Colin’s beautifully grown specimen. To be quite frank with you, I didn’t think this typical clone we call ‘Mrs P’ could even produce traps this big and previously believed it remained quite a stout and dwarf plant, although still with decent sized traps. This blows that theory out the water. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
21.01.2022 A sizable clump of S. purpurea that a year a half previous was absolutely invested with mealy bug. Two repots and thorough rhizome baths later, this is the result, plants absolutely free of any scourge. With some digested cockroach pieces in the final pic. ~~~ We’d also like this time to announce that we are changing our day of trade during the week from the Thursday to FRIDAY. Book for your appointment to come check out some terrific plants on your scheduled - or not - Fri...day off and save the weekend for admiring them at home. 20.01.2022 Unexpected sunny Sarracenia backlit shots. Featuring a few stock plants. Just thought you’d all appreciate that glow on what was yet another overcast spring day here in #Perth. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
20.01.2022 A cool photo of a D. binata multifida leaf crossing through the view of a brooding Darlingtonia pitcher (what drew my attention), with a pot of D. capensis ‘alba’ in the lowermost background. All three species are available now. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
19.01.2022 The mission (last pic) was to reposition the new trap away from ultimately opening over and inside the largest trap currently boasted WITHOUT 1) setting off the trap and 2) tearing the new leaf right off its stem which is easy to do when handling them. Mission accomplished. -D.m. ‘B52’. Ângelo ... Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy See more
19.01.2022 The beautiful fiberglass Darlingtonia/D. regia/live sphagnum bowl is looking great a couple months on. As nice a touch as the weed growth lends presently to the composition, I removed them after these photos were taken so they didn’t take over. I will grow this out for a year or two before making it available. Maybe. I really like it. 18.01.2022 D. sp. ‘floating’ (admirabilis). A plant with a flower stalk with a plant producing a flower stalk. The phenomenon has a name which I can’t quite be bothered looking up right now. This was the result, in this instance I’m sure, of growing in full shade but it still happy enough, with enough ambient light to continue thriving. Enjoy. And for those wondering, being that the secondary plant is so well developed, I will now snip it off and transplant it into its own pot.... This is the remaining original seed-grown plant (now turned stock plant) from the lot that was produced from fellow grower @abugsnightmare’s generous offering. Thanks again Anthony. 18.01.2022 A monster of a S. purpurea ssp venosa. I can’t take all the credit for this specimen. It was already an old plant when I received it from a private grower this past winter, but it certainly has only gotten bigger under our care (sun and rain water, with the occasional top-up of water from overhead to fill the pitchers - only necessary in this species). The contrasting red and yellow colour is even more stunning - better - in real life. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
18.01.2022 Our first Hypertufa pot arrangement grown out for a good couple months and purchased today as a gift for another. Perfect. Thanks again, Suné. Hypertufa bowl courtesy of @danielileyart . 18.01.2022 Just some of next spring’s stock growing nicely and for some reason, somehow, having completely avoided the caterpillar assault. The final pot is our first propagation of D.m. ‘Wacky Traps’ which will be available in small numbers next summer. Open by appointment FRIDAYS and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
17.01.2022 Have you ever seen a more beautifully eaten leaf? Blue berry. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
17.01.2022 Cobra plant, cobra lily, California plant, call it what you want... Darlingtonia is one of the most intriguing plant species on the planet, arousing curiosity and indeed deep fascination with its evocative serpentine form. For us, it’s an absolute passion. Round one of plants (bigger) are available now, while we get ready to prepare the second round of plants (smaller). Included now in every purchase, a small patch of live sphagnum ‘round the growth point. Darlingtonia love t...he cool moisture which live sphagnum moss provides and accelerates growth. Pictured is one of our stock plants. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy See more
16.01.2022 My son (almost 5) explained today that even though he knew this caterpillar was eating his tomato plant, he didn’t mind and while holding it - a good ten minutes - revealed that he really likes caterpillars. He didn’t want to give it up. I thought that was pretty cool. Good on you, my boy. 15.01.2022 This one’s gonna be a beauty. -Cobra Plant Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
13.01.2022 Is there three in there? This could be the closest we get to finding out without later dissecting it, as the trap is not reopening and has possibly finished its service (consequently, it’ll begin to yellow and then blacken as it naturally dies off). Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
12.01.2022 A beautiful S. flava we will have available next spring; genetically identical plants. The flava species and its variants are certainly among my favourite in the genus. We will have more varieties available next spring than ever before, including some very dark ones. Lots of Sarracenia plants still available this growing season. Particularly - look out FOR - the leucos (S. leucophylla and its hybrids) which produce their best pitchers in the fall/autumn. We will have a few. ... Book your appointment to see us. 12.01.2022 Beautifully bloomed. For all the flower lovers. This plant is also our first to be grown fully in sphagnum moss (dead) and perlite. It seems as long as the medium is not too acidic, the Dewy Pine isn’t too fussed and will thrive. ~~~ On another note, we hope everyone - and their animals - affected by the fires in #Perth are safe from harm. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
12.01.2022 Incredible, I’m finding, is Cephalotus’s regenerative powers. These two plants, divisions I took that were not quite ready to be harvested, looked finished - the second appeared to be for sure - before returning with my normal ‘back off on water and not too much sun’ recovery method, particularly when roots have been damaged or are absent altogether. Available next spring (this time we mean it ), though numbers will be limited. Open by appointment FRIDAYS and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
11.01.2022 Something we’re very much excited about the prospect of supplying in the future. Every purpurea lover can’t help but be excited about an all-green leaf. Look at it, the sleek unblemished cleanness of it - perfection in a pitcher. Particularly just prior to and upon popping in service. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
10.01.2022 I think this Darlingtonia, midway through the swelling process, is smiling at me. And I think if you disagree you are just jealous that it’s smiling at me and not you. 10.01.2022 [SOLD] I said there were no more D.m. ‘B52’ available. I lied. This one was severely eaten by the caterpillar attacks of Dec/Jan but has since made an impressive comeback. As far as an individual plant goes, it’s not huge, though neither is it far from becoming so. $35 to the first to say they want it here or on FB. And that is ash from the fires, not mealy bug if you were wondering. This is an authentic B52 clone. ... 08.01.2022 Our oldest D. madagascariensis, about five years old, dying every late winter and returning from the roots even before the last leaves on the previous year’s plants have fully dried up. Pots of small plants (seed-grown) available. Open by appointment FRIDAYS and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
05.01.2022 See the damage (also, frequently with caterpillar, the trail of poo), inspect - particularly - the backside of every leaf, and you’ll find the culprit. Simple. No need to spazz out. No need to spray anything. Your plant and the other, beneficial insects in the garden will be fine.... 05.01.2022 For those of you who haven’t seen these in awhile, they are the ‘4 Kings’, a powerhouse quartet from our original seed grown D. regia, which have not been touched since their repotting at one and a half years of age. They are almost the same age as my son, who turns five this January. Still one of my proudest achievements as a grower, having produced from that first seed-grown batch hundreds more plants which found homes all over #Perth, having to start from scratch what coul...dn’t even be acquired here, this terrific species aptly nicknamed the King Sundew. They’re available now in three different sizes, including large seed-grown specimens not quite but close to the size of the plants pictured above/below. 04.01.2022 Probably the most beautifully produced Siamese trap (kind of mirrored with that petiole, to boot) yet. It’s from a clone we’ve got newly in cultivation called ‘Low Giant’ and the trap malformation is just a freak that you’ll sometimes see in Dionaea, though I still think it something pretty rad. If only someone could land on a specimen that would consistently produce them, what is referred to in the world of cultivation/cloning as being a trait exhibited that is stable. Wouldn’t that just be something. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
03.01.2022 Drosophyllum ‘Dewy Pine’ flowers are like no flowers produced by any Sundew. That’s not their only pleasing attribute, but if you like the colour yellow and dislike winged nuisance then this is certainly the plant for you. Available (once lockdown restriction is lifted). Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
03.01.2022 A bug’s nightmare. -D. adelae. Available now in our 10cm pots. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
03.01.2022 Acquired via a private grower, I can’t wait to grow divisions off these to ultimately make them available to the people of #Perth. What a beauty. Open by appointment Thursdays and weekends. #WAcarnivores #Perth #westernaustralia #perthisok #perthgram #perthsmallbusiness #theflytrapguy
02.01.2022 Drosophyllum lusitanicum is something special. ‘Dewy Pine’ plants and seed packs available. Also produces one of the brightest, most gorgeous yellow flowers you’ll see (Colin would’ve told me to tell you so ).
