23.01.2022 On the way in to Lithgow at River Lett Hill, the silos now greet all travellers passing through. Grateful to @lithgowtourismandevents for showcasing the #portlandsilos as part of their #lithgow regional campaign. We will be closed on Christmas Day, but gates will be open every other day to view the silos from 9am - 5pm. Merry Christmas from all of us here at The Foundations.

22.01.2022 Markets at The Foundations return postponed The management of the Foundations in Portland have made the difficult decision to postpone the return of the markets at this stage. Due to the ongoing concerns within the community around COVID-19 and the constantly changing public health guidelines, we have decided not to go ahead with the August or September markets. We appreciate that people, particularly our stallholders, were looking forward to this, but we feel it is in the b...est interest of the community not to hold any events at this stage. The Foundations has continued to progress many projects during the past few months and there will be much to see when conditions change and things can be reactivated at the site. We are now aiming for a return in October and have some exciting things to announce in the coming weeks, but we will be guided by public health advice at the time. Keep an eye on The Foundations Facebook page for information about events as things hopefully return to normal in the coming months. See more

19.01.2022 Coming soon to The Foundations... Trout Fishing! We cant tell you how excited we are to be able to confirm this. Its been a long road and we still have some works to do - but in the coming months we will be able to open access to the newly named Millpond, for recreational catch and release fishing. 15.01.2022 There has been some great feedback to the events and open days throughout October. We are taking a small break this weekend, silos open for viewing, nursery will be open as will the heritage precinct for external building shots and you can get up close to the sculpture work of @harrie_fasher. No sunrise or sunset walks this weekend, but we will be back on it as soon as the weather passes.

14.01.2022 Tidy Towns Portland UPDATE.. Work at the Memorial Wall site in The Foundations has been started with the pouring of the concrete slab..the bricks are being orde...red soon. The Tidy Towns Committee would like to thank those that volunteered their time and energy in making this happen. Also the Sidewalk Planters arrived today..which we are very excited about and are sure the community will be pleased with the end result of the Planters once in position. These planters are part of The Portland Beautification Project. Also ..a big thanks to Kaylin Caddis for the photos. Stay tuned for more updates as they happen. 12.01.2022 Had a number of visitors to the Glen Museum today. All enjoyed the collection with complimentary remarks. The Museum is open from 11 to 3 on Saturday and Sunday. Make sure you visit. New Volunteers are also welcome to join.

This photo is from the bottom of the stairs heading down to the basement level where the labs were. It is often lovingly referred to as the wallpaper museum, some great and very different examples from different eras.

05.01.2022 A grant of $78,418 from the Recreational Fishing Trust was announced today by Minister Adam Marshall MP today at The Foundations. This will allow required infrastructure to be built (foot bridges with handrails, fencing and signage) to ensure safe public access to the newly established Millpond. Works will now begin in earnest and access to the site will hopefully be established by very early in 2021. The Ministers and their associates enjoyed a spot of fishing at Portland and everyone landed a fish in what was said by many to be the best afternoon of fishing they had experienced. 01.01.2022 The Foundations will be hosting Makers Month this October and it all kicks off on the October long weekend. Events will include workshops, artwork and sculpture installations, opportunities for artists to explore the site, historical site tours, walking and running tours around the trails, kids eco and sustainability workshops and much more Keep an eye on our socials for details in the coming days, and there will be more to come throughout the month. We cant have big crowds and large events at the moment, but we want to ensure we get people back on site and getting a taste of what is in store.
