25.01.2022 Nothing is EVER a waste of time. This topic has come up a few times over the past couple of weeks, whether thats from people reflecting on the past or worrying about the future. So I am here to challenge you to change your thought pattern and think about things differently.... Here are a few examples: First thoughts: I cant believe she resigned! Ive spent months training her! What a waste of time. Instead think: She wasnt right for our team and vision. Im glad I created that procedure manual, now I can use it for future onboarding. Why DIDNT she work out? (hint: write a list). First thoughts: Im nervous about spending time creating this project - what if it doesnt work? What if I waste months of my life creating something that fails? Instead think: Im eager to see what comes of this project and what I learn. Even if I dont make money from it, I can totally repurpose the content for marketing. IF it doesnt sell well, at least I know what doesnt work and it will lead me to something else. This type of reframing can even be applied to friendships and relationships as you will learn what you like or dont like, what you can look for in someone else, what expectations you have of yourself, your time and your space. So next time you find yourself thinking what a waste of time, remember there is always something that can be learned and clarity to be gained which can move you forward! 24.01.2022 As we all settle into our new temporary lives of being SAFE at home, I wanted to pull together a list of tools, products and services that will either help or support you through this time. This list includes business things and fun things seeing as our lives have become more integrated than ever over the past month. For a lot of us, I know its been hard to get into content creation mode. Weve been feeling guilty for either selling or posting as if nothings happening.... On the other hand, were all being bombarded with content about the C-word that we totally welcome something different! Now, I am not a content specialist. Actually, its probably the business hat I least like to wear. It doesnt come naturally to me so I have totally pulled back on creating and posting. But this morning I saw a post that Instagram usage was up 30% and now is the perfect time to build new connections. So I came up with something I like to call my Enjoyable Content List. This is a list of things that came to mind that I personally have enjoyed or engaged with recently which has in turn given ME so many content ideas! Heres a few examples: Biz owners working their butts off to pivot and adapt (shout out to @jacquitoumbas #hustler) Biz owners being vulnerable and telling us theyve been struggling to work and napping a lot too #itsnotjustme Taking a peak at other peoples home office spaces (then heading over to Pinterest for even more inspo) Seeing peoples morning and evening routines Funny memes (shout out to @jessruhfus & @letstalkperiodau #memequeens) Insightful shares (about staying home, working from home, mindfulness etc) Biz owners sharing about their product or service...tactfully of course! 23.01.2022 This week we are trialling a new form of accountability for our members - a team competition! Every Monday within group chats members will share their number one priority for the week along with a few tasks that must be completed. Then each Friday we will be checking back in to make sure that the tasks were achieved. ... Each member that has completed their tasks gets a point for their team. If they don't? A point is deducted from their team tally! Why? Because across the board, motivation is low. 15.01.2022 *Implementation Days* Yesterday and today we held the Implementation Days for our members that commenced in January (or prior). We are now at the halfway point through the six month Mastermind Program so the Implementation Day was organised as a way for our members to spend time working ON their businesses and move further forward towards the goals they want to achieve.... The agenda? 1 hour of Pomodoro work (25 mins focused work + 5 min break x 2) 30 mins of brainstorming in smaller teams (Zoom Breakout Rooms are v. cool!) 1 hour of Pomodoro work again The result? So. 13.01.2022 Most of you know Im a bit of a CX geek. It stems from working at Target as a teenager and having the words The customer is always right drilled into me. Then it became even more of a passion for me while I was leading a customer service team. Now, more than ever, we absolutely must take care of our customers Why so much right now? Two reasons.... 1. They need support. They need help. Whether they have lost work or are going through a massive spike - they need to know weve got their backs. 2. We need to show them that we are worth their investment in an economic downturn. I know a lot of you have lost a few clients in the past month and you need your customers more than ever. So prove your worth! Go above and beyond. Under-promise and over-deliver. Reply to their enquiries as fast as lightning. Make things as easy as possible for them to continue doing business with you. 12.01.2022 Two years ago, life was VERY different! This memory popped up on Facebook today and it made me think about how far I've come. I had been flown (in business class ) to London and New York for my full time job. We had a meeting on the 64th floor of the Empire State Building with this view ... We were in back to back meetings all day then going out for dinner and drinks every night THEN I'd go back to the hotel to do work for Webbernet (our other business). I'll never forget trying to do payroll after a few drinks at 2:30am I didn't know any other business owners at this time. We had just moved to the Sunshine Coast and knew no one there! Now? I have a new business that I love which has allowed me to meet the most incredible people. I'm so grateful for the journey I've been on which finally led me to finding what I LOVE to do! Its easy compared to that life! 2. Where do you want to be when this is all over and life is back to what it used to be? When were allowed to go out for dinner and drinks! When were allowed to see our family and friends! When business is back to normal. Are you ready for this? Do you want to be scrambling when announcements are made that regulations have been lifted or do you want to be ready and raring to go? What can you do today so you're ready? 3. 05.01.2022 I'm a HUGE fan of snail mail. Last year I sent all of @the.founders.team members a hand written Christmas card. This year, I have instead decided to donate the amount I'd normally spend on custom branded cards and postage to @therescuecollective to help them save the lives of our injured wildlife from the current fire disaster. Animals being harmed in any way breaks my heart to pieces (I am vegan for this reason) so seeing all of the damage and destruction the bushfires are c...ausing for our wildlife is truly upsetting. Communication. Don't lose your effective communication by relying on Slack or WhatsApp. Yes these tools are brilliant, but they should not replace video or phone calls!! If your slack message is more than 2-3 sentences OR will result in an emotional response (positive or negative), jump on a call! I cannot emphasise this enough! 3. Encourage self-care. Set the standard of having lunch breaks, moving your body, setting up a proper work space and implementing boundaries around work hours. If your team is used to being around other people in an office, encourage video call lunch breaks and shoot the shit with them so they aren't feeling too lonely. Create channels in Slack that aren't related to work so they have the ability to still chat about other things.
