21.01.2022 In the garden this week

18.01.2022 Hi everyone. Not much in the way of posts of late, but this is not to say things havent been happening in the garden, far from it! Winter is always our busy time and this winter has been no exception. Apart from the day-to-day work, we have transplanted over 40 large Camellias, 12 Thuja trees, 5 Magnolias, 18 Westringia fruticosa 36 roses, 1 crab apple, 3 grey owls, 5 Jacarandas, and a partridge in a pear tree. (No, just joking about the partridge). Most of these have been m...oved because they were growing too close to other plants, or just in the wrong place. We have also moved other plants ready for the long over due dredging of the pond. Very excited about this, (Cant wait to see views of the garden reflected in the clear, deep, water again). It has been clogged up with bull rushes and the like, making it appear much smaller than it is, plus with it being so shallow it always looked dirty. Its actually being dredged as I write. A new white picket fence is in the process of being erected at the front of the property, with wings still needed on the Manchurian pear, driveway side and finished off at the left side of the old cafe. A face-lift on the old nursery building now called River cottage 3, is also nearing completion, with painting well underway and the landscaping is taking shape nicely. The reshaping of the driveway into the car park has to be completed before the busy season starts as well as beautifying the awful transpiration bed council wanted us to put in, so we still have our work cut out for us, (as always). The creek edge is also slowly being cleared of lantana poplars and a horrible invasive climber. The new stunning holiday accommodation cottages overlook this area. so needs to look good. Hopefully by Christmas, we will be ready for the influx. Photos to come very shortly! See more
