25.01.2022 A lovely elderly couple in Shoal Bay, needed access to the street from their house as their driveway was now too steep to walk up. We cleared and built a simple treated pine staircase with compacted crushed granite treads combined with a treated pine timber handrail, through their garden directly up to the road. 08.01.2022 After a pretty good amount of rain the restrictions have lifted in our local area from Level 1 to Smart Water Choices. This is a great opportunity to put into practice sustainable use of water while also doing what is best for your landscape and garden. * Watering at dawn and dusk (well maybe not as early as dawn, but before 10am works well), is actually better for your garden in terms of soil water retention and hydration for your plants. * Watering your garden while in sha...de, before direct sunlight hits, will allow less evaporation so the water can get to the roots where it is most needed * Looking at a Bore water system will reduce the need for Town water so if restrictions are introduced then you can continue to provide much needed water to your garden beds, vegetable beds, trees and grass * When planning your landscape, look at drought tolerant and hardy plants for our local climate as well as use of various materials in garden beds including stones and mulch Fore more information on othersmart water choices in the Hunter region visit https://www.hunterwater.com.au//water-/smart-water-choices In need of a reliable and professional Landscaper for some transformations at your place? 01.01.2022 Being a coastal area, and with unpredictable weather conditions (especially at this time of year), here are our top tips to maintaining a healthy landscape in wet, windy or dry conditions: * Make sure any structural areas of your landscape are secure - this includes retaining walls, pergolas, paving areas and fences. Too much wobble in the wind may mean structural elements need re-enforcing * Choose plants that are drought and wind tolerant. With such extremes from summer to ...winter, and the strong coastal winds we experience, plants need to be hardy to survive. Generally local native plants are a good choice and can still provide the garden colour you want. There are also a great range of colourful coastal plants (just check that they are not considered a weed by council) * Prior to strong weather forecast, trim tree branches and bushes/ shrubs. For anything requiring a ladder, we recommend you get in the tree experts for safety * The high level of salt in coastal areas can impact the growth and health of plants. Balance this out with a regular spray of seasol or similar. Looking for a reliable, professional and experienced landscaper ?
