23.01.2022 And the people stayed home They read their books, napped on their lounges, tidied their shelves, played with their pets, re-arranged their furniture, fixed their leaking tap, talked slowly with one another, made tea and stared out their windows quietly reflecting. The people slowed down.... The people began to see through the busyness. Began to wonder. Began to think about how they live. Began to feel deep rumblings of discontent. Began to want something different. Slower. Sustainable. Purposeful. Began to connect with neighbors - through windows, from verandahs, from back yards. Began to see how tenuous their global lifestyles are. Began to see the dangers of depending upon distant trading. Felt those deep rumblings grow into ideas. Ideas about simpler, closer, more deeply connected lives. Ideas about growing food locally; together. Ideas about helping one another and growing self reliant instead of government reliant. And when the crisis passed and the people sped up again, some of those ideas kept rumbling around..... and change began. Sarah E. Ferguson 18 03 20
