11.01.2022 The Gisborne Singers committee is sorry to share the sad news that their esteemed Musical Director, Stephen Brockman, had a serious fall from a bicycle last week and passed away on May 28th, 2020. The choir is struggling to process the loss of such an incredibly strong, intelligent and passionate man. He leaves behind him a legacy of wonderful music making, not only with our little community choir, but worldwide. We were to be presenting the Brahms Requiem (pre-covid), and he... had been enjoying preparing this work with us. It was one of his favourites. Included below is a picture of Stephen (with wife Margaret) receiving a gift (whisky glasses) and flowers for his 10 years as conductor with our choir in 2018. As yet, we’re unsure how we’ll proceed as a choir, as they’re very BIG shoes to fill. We’ll keep you all informed. Looking forward to happier times, when we can once again share our love of music together. See more

09.01.2022 Our wonderful tenor Alison got herself onto this beautiful movie. Thanks to all the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers that we all count on.

07.01.2022 Enjoy every minute on stage at the glorious Carnegie Hall Gisborne Singers!

06.01.2022 Life’s better with music!

06.01.2022 A handful of choristers (darn COVID - it should’ve been all of us!) were honoured to attend the funeral of their friend and conductor Stephen Brockman today. The Gisborne Singers' music featured in the service, including our virtual recording of the Crimond (The Lord is My Shepherd), Mozart's Lacrimosa from the Requiem (our recording from 2014), Brahms' Blessed are They That Mourn (2017) and this, Faure's In Paradisium' (2018) from his Requiem. The sopranos sing to the heavens and we can't help but see Stephen's (faux) angelic face (smiling at us singing) when hearing this. Fast forward to the 32 minute mark for this. *Picture is not of Stephen, but Tom Healey, a favourite soloist of ours and organist today at the funeral.

04.01.2022 The Gisborne Singers held their AGM over Zoom tonight, with a small group of their members. It was so lovely to see smiling faces after weeks of isolation! Tonight we celebrated two life members (an honorarium given to those who've shown such commitment to the choir over many years) to Margaret Brockman and D'Arcy Wood. We're also pleased to announce our 2020 committee;... President - Kitty Skeen Vice President - Emily Shanahan Treasurer - Katherine Wilson Secretary - Wendy Foster General Committee - Margaret Murhpy, Anita Santic, Alison Kinghorn David Flentje and Adrian Simpson See more

04.01.2022 SEASON 2020 ANNOUNCED!

02.01.2022 Rehearsals for Brahms' divine German Requiem begin tonight. Concerts are in May, and we perform with chamber orchestra and professional soloists (and don't worry, we'll be singing it in English!). Now is the time to join your fabulous local choir for a year of beautiful music making.

02.01.2022 The Gisborne Singers Committee today made the decision to cease all rehearsals until further notice, to help protect our very valued choristers and community. More information about scheduled events to follow. May you all take care and stay healthy until we meet again.

01.01.2022 On Monday night, representatives of the choir attended the Spring Investment Evening held by The Gisborne & District Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank. We are overwhelmed to accept $10,000 to help fund new portable choir risers and a trailer for transport. We are very grateful for the contributions this wonderful bank invest in our community.
