24.01.2022 Today’s a good day to make some positive ripples
24.01.2022 Hey everyone! I’m a local city councillor with Brisbane City Council. My electorate covers 50 000 residents on Brisbane’s inner-south side, from West End to East Brisbane I’ve been an elected rep for about three and a half years now, and I’m really passionate about social justice and ending homelessness.... I studied law and writing at uni. Before I was elected, I was part-timing as a youth worker and a musician. I still perform regularly with my ska/punk band The Mouldy Lovers and my spoken word/hip-hop band Rivermouth. As a city councillor, I see a lot of people who are experiencing crisis of one kind or another. One of the biggest issues in my electorate is housing unaffordability, with heaps of people becoming homeless due to rising rents. So I spend a lot of time pushing for policy changes that help improve housing stability and security for people at the bottom end of the pyramid. I think it’s shameful that in a wealthy country like Australia, so many people are homeless. I’m also paid pretty well, so I give away a fair chunk of my salary to various non-profits and local community groups. I try to prioritise supporting smaller local organisations because I think they tend to do more with the money and are more flexible and effective at actually supporting people compared to big NGOs that have high administration costs. Stay tuned everyone, this is going to be a good month!
21.01.2022 #suicidepreventionday A semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence but chose not to. Today is suicide prevention day. Take a moment to have that conversation with those people in your life if you think they might be in a vulnerable place. Or maybe you are that person. Reach out.. connect, communicate, care.

14.01.2022 Hey team! here! I am the newest runner of the TGI relay an I could not be more excited. For the month of October, I will be giving away 50% of my income to support projects that I am passionate about. At this stage I have absolutely no idea where that money is going but I look forward to the journey to find out where I will give my money to. ... I have the best job in the world - I get to travel around QLD and teach leadership in schools. More than that, I get to invite young people into a community where they are valued, respected and are free to be them. Alongside that, I am a co-founder of Tenpercent, an organisation that inspires generosity, so running the TGI relay is just a natural next step for me! I am incredibly passionate about everyone donating 10% of their time, money and resources so that we can see tangible change in our beautiful world. Looking forward to this month! Please interact, share and comment on these posts so I can get to know you as well. Peace, Lachie
14.01.2022 Last week, I also donated $500 to Fishability QLD who support people on low incomes and people with impaired mobility to head out to Moreton Bay and enjoy the outdoors. Services like Fishability help build community connections and break down social isolation. For people who don't get out much and who might be struggling with mental health issues, getting out on the water with a group of friends is a great way to break down barriers and improve emotional wellbeing.... Check them out here guys! https://fishability.com.au/

10.01.2022 I decided to get on board with The Give Initiative because I think celebrating and publicising generosity and selflessness helps challenge dominant individualistic thinking where people prioritise their own short-term needs ahead of broader society. From a young age, most of us are indoctrinated to be self-centred and selfish, and to believe that 'there's not enough to go around for everyone so I better grab as much for myself as I can.' When in fact we have the sk...ills and resources for everyone on the planet to enjoy a high quality of life. The problem is just that the mega-rich hoard it all for themselves. Those of us who occupy more privileged positions in society need to learn to be content with what we have rather than always seeking to accumulate more wealth and possessions. The Give Initiative inspires me because it's a good reminder that actually there are plenty of generous people out there, and the world is not really as greedy or close-minded as it might seem at first glance. 08.01.2022 Jonno here again! I've been busy with work for a couple of days and haven't had much time for social media, but I thought I'd share the news that I'm making a $1000 donation towards building construction materials for the Deebing Creek Sovereignty Camp down near Ipswich. If you haven't heard much about this issue, it's worth checking out the Save Deebing Creek Mission and Deebing Creek Sovereignty Camp pages. A group of Aboriginal traditional owners are camping out on their l...and at the site of a former Aboriginal mission, and are trying to set up a cultural centre and housing for low-income Aboriginal people. A private developer wants to bulldoze the forest and redevelop the whole area for profit, but the traditional owners want to use the land in a more sustainable and culturally appropriate way. (It's their land after all) They are keen for donations of building materials and also keen to connect with experienced builders who can share skills and provide advice. There's a Deebing Creek Working Bee this weekend for anyone who's interested...
07.01.2022 The greatest gift we could give future generations is a healthy world to thrive in
07.01.2022 Jonno Sri here again! Today I donated $2500 to the Wangan and Jagalingou people's campaign against the destruction of their traditional lands. They're worried that their sacred sites, forests and watercourses are going to be destroyed by a massive coal mine project that will force them off their country.... I think it's really important that Aboriginal people should have a say as to what happens on their land, and that if they don't support a project going ahead, the government should listen to them rather than putting the interests of multinational corporations ahead of ordinary people.
07.01.2022 24 HOUR TREADMILL FUNDRAISER FOR AFFECTED WILDLIFE HAD BEGUN!! https://www.gofundme.com/f/24-for-bushfires
06.01.2022 This is Jonno Sri again, signing off with my last post before I hand over the Give Initiative baton to another generous person. It's been cool to be part of this process and feel connected to other people who also see the power of directly challenging selfish individualism. I'm sorry I didn't have time to post more often. If you want to keep in the loop about some of the other projects I'm involved in and learn more about the various issues I advocate on, you can always foll...ow my councillor FB page - Jonathan Sri, Councillor for The Gabba. Even though I'm wrapping up with TGI, I'm going to continue donating part of my salary each week. If you have any suggestions on other worthwhile causes that you think I should donate to, send me a direct message. Thanks again to Alex for inviting me to be part of this!
03.01.2022 here I just wanted to say thank you! Thank you for your generosity. Thank you that you give your time, money, resources and energy to those who need it. This journey of generosity can be hard and lonely at times. We can feel as if we are getting no where, but the truth is any amount of sacrifice in generosity is just amazing. You are amazing. ... Tag a friend who needs to be reminded that they are doing a great job!
02.01.2022 Halfway to our goal of $2400 So thank you all. Click the link below if you haven’t contributed yet and want to help our furry friends https://www.gofundme.com/f/24-for-bushfires
01.01.2022 here I am on a radical journey of generosity and and absolutely loving it. One thing that I have have discovered in the process is the importance of community. I believe that through giving, we gain a richer experience of community. Giving is just not about giving money to a charity, it is about seeing others and serving people around you. As we adopt this posture of giving, our communities are naturally going to benefit as a result. ... My challenge for you is to start seeing and serving those around you - that is the purest form of giving!
